The Arjuna era was different. Both good and bad. During that era the juniors even had to carry the seniors' bags. But the good about it was that there was respect and discipline. There was a hierarchy.
Arjuna could be the only cricketer that didn't appear in advertisements. He could've made millions but he didn't. (In contrast Mahela and Sangakkara sold every inch of their bodies).
What Arjuna had in leadership, he lacked in personal qualities maybe, especially considering the story about harassing kids who accidentally batted a ball into their home etc.

Possibly Cricket could not survive without IPL.. - before IPL there was ICL headed by Kapil Dev..

I believe even Marvan Atapattu mentioned that Test cricket is boring to watch..

I remember once Hashan making a Ton, in an ODI, even though the team lost..

Today it's just 3 - 4 countries in the spotlight..

And there was a time we did not have fast bowlers..

Still best contested and most watchable matches are Test matches between competitive teams. I think England changed this "boring attitude" towards Test cricket.
