Please excuse this rant on my part

Primitive animals like crabs don't have pain receptors. I am pretty sure that most animals like squid aren't sentient considering they only have a handful of neurons, and no central nervous system.

I really don't know whether the Buddha said don't eat meat or not.

But Buddhists believe that the Buddha said - don't kill living beings.

So, I think, if you can eat meat without killing animals, the Buddha may not object to that. You can close the chapter that way.

Yes. Plants are alive. But, they don't have neurons -> nervous system -> brain -> feelings as we know them -> no fear of death as we know it - > no thoughts, etc.

So, you can't compare plants with animals.

I am not talking about 'snayu'. Let me tell you what.

There was that argument that if you cannot kill an animal and eat it, then you should not kill a plant as well.

In reply, I said, you cannot compare plants and animals in this instance. It was in that context that I mentioned neurons, etc.

Those who eat meat will find some argument to justify it. You cannot decide eating or not eating meat by argument. It is a matter of heart.

I feel it is not proper to kill another animal and eat its flesh.

You may then argue - 'then you cannot eat even plants'.

My reply is - 'Maybe, plants feel pain. I don't know. But I must eat something to live. So, I will cause pain to plants rather than to animals in order to live or I will kill plants rather than animals for the purpose of my own life'.

    Got my idea, eluwa?
