People believe in God for two reasons.

1. Self protection

-----Desire for someone or something(God) to protect or save us from trouble.
-----Desire for someone or something(God) to grant us happiness.

2. Self Preservation

----Desire for eternal life and happiness. (After death- they believe that there is an eternal heaven or an eternal hell.)

Nevertheless, In Buddhism

1. Self protection –

-------Protect ourselves through avoiding evil.

------Attain our own happiness by doing good.

2. Self preservation –

See the truth of existence through purifying our minds.

Avoid evil, do good, purify mind.:D

    which one ?
there are 3300000 in Hinduism alone. God/Allah/Jehovah in Christianity/Islam/Judaism. Shintoism has a large number of gods as well.

those are not any part of Buddhism. Buddhism has no god/goddess worship at all. These are traits possibly coming down from Hinduism.
No true Buddhist believes in these gods.

Gods are defined in Buddhism as yet another form of life who are not in the human form.
They are not omnipotent as defined in the various other religions and worshiping them serves no purpose as they are not capable in doing the kind of things those worshipers wants.
