World Press Photo winners 2010

Jodi Bieber's portrait of 18-year-old Bibi Aisha, whose husband sliced off her nose and ears in a case of Taliban-administered justice, has won the World Press Photo award for 2010. Aisha now lives in the US.

Canadian photographer Ed Ou’s picture of Somali refugees on their way to Yemen won him first prize in the Contemporary Issues Stories category

Seamus Murphy, a VII Photo Agency photographer based in Ireland, took this shot of Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks. This picture was one of more than 100,000 photographs entered into the competition.

Nguyen Thi Ly, nine, has birth defects caused by herbicide Agent Orange used in the Vietnam War. The picture by Ed Kashi, of VII Photo Agency, was awarded second prize in the Contemporary Issues Single category
