If you really want give something to the patients in wards or clinic. I always direct it when my patients come to me related the matter of gifts.

I have nothing to do with patients. I just wanna admire the effort the doctors and nurses took on somebody's life. It can never be directed to patients. I mean something they can keep as a memory.

    1. Regulations Under the SLMC Ethical Conduct Guidelines
The SLMC guidelines primarily address interactions with patients and commercial entities like pharmaceutical or medical device companies: [1]
      • Commercial Invalidation: Doctors must never accept any inducement, gift, or hospitality that could affect—or be perceived to affect—their professional judgment. [1]
      • Prescribing Practices: Accepting items given in recognition of, or to influence, specific drug prescribing patterns is explicitly deemed an unethical practice. [1]
      • Financial Conflicts: Financial or commercial interests in pharmaceutical firms or biomedical companies must never dictate how a doctor treats, prescribes for, or refers patients. [1]

    2. Regulations Under the Sri Lankan Establishments Code (E-Code)
Because the vast majority of doctors in Sri Lanka are employed within the state healthcare system under the Ministry of Health, they are legally classified as public officers. Consequently, they are bound by the Sri Lanka Establishments Code (Chapter XLVII) and national anti-corruption regulations: [1, 2]
      • General Prohibition: Public officers and members of their immediate families are strictly prohibited from accepting gifts or other benefits for performing their official duties. [1, 2]
      • Legal Consequences: Receiving prohibited gifts, either directly or indirectly, constitutes a punishable offense under Schedule One of the Establishments Code. Furthermore, under Section 19(C) of the Bribery Act, accepting such gratifications can carry a criminal penalty of up to 7 years imprisonment and financial fines. [1]
