    hold the 7 liter(assuming pure water) container over the big barrel. fill it once with the full 5 liter one. then do the same again. the amount that spills over is 3kg( (5*2)-7). do the same thing again and we end up with 6 liter or 6 kg of water in the big barrel.:D [(5*2)-7]*2=6

    no, you can get the exact answers without rounding up. 16.16 is only to show that the last one has to be killed.It's not used in the calculations again. and it wasn't rounded to 17.
