There was a similar bonus paid to Australians during 2008/9 global recession. Kevin Rudd was the PM at that time, and he organized this A$ 900 payment to every taxpayer to stimulate the economy. If I can recall correctly it also payed to each and every kid under 18, and everybody who lodged a tax return in that year. Due to that bonus or some other reasons Australia not gone in to the recession at that time.
