It's not bacterial... Sadly it's AIH. Autoimmune hepatitis, which is a chronic inflammatory disease of the liver. Your own body immune system starts to attack the liver. Some people do respond drugs that can control the disease progression by immune suppression but if detected late or when it reaches cirrhosis and end-stage liver failure then transplantation has to be done. Even then a recurrence cannot be eliminated.
Why it happens is unknown but the suspect triggers can be environmental, viruses, some drugs, xenobiotics etc. It affects females 4 times more than the males. There are certain genes which are involved also ceratin other disorders that can be linked to AIH.
