Probe on meditation centre in Kadawatha

Investigators are probing an alleged illegal dig of archeological artifacts and other activities inside the sprawling complex of a super luxury meditation centre located at Imbulgoda, Kadawatha, a senior police official said today.
He said the controversial up market meditation centre built at a cost of some Rs. 01 billion was used by top VIPs of the former administration where even security for the complex was provided by the state security forces including the army.
Police are investigating a huge crater found on one side of the sprawling complex that goes on to indicate that some sort of treasure hunt had taken place from time to time.
The interior complex equipped with ebony furnishings, a well lined up library, bathroom fittings imported from Italy and also a helipad, he said.
Residents in the area had also noted the movement of heavy vehicles loaded with digging equipment that left and entered the complex mainly at night from time to time, the official further said.
Deputy Minister for Social Affairs and Live Stock Development Ranjan Ramanayake entered the complex along with the police.
Meanwhile the place has been emptied and personnel from the Special Task Force have been assigned to provide security. (LB)
