That used to be true, mate. But not anymore. The government brought all those reserves back home last year.

And Australia has unthinkable amount of oil underneath, although we don't produce much. So, we're not afraid or controlled by USD at all.

Our connection is just for the current situation. If their USD plunges, our AUD will have a slight impact but we can quickly self rely on ourselves as a country. The resources are too much that if governments want they can just give away 100 billion AUD to each and every citizen of Australia and still nothing would happen to AUD. That much of resources are still intact underneath our soil.
