කුරානය නොඅදහන්නන්ට ඉස්ලාම් තරුණියන් විවාහකරදිම තහනම් කර තියෙන බව ඇත්තකි. මානව හිමිකම් පිළිබදව මොන තරම් කතාකරතත් ඉස්ලාම් තරුණියක් හා විවාහවිමට හින්දු හෝ බෞද්ධ තරුණයෙකුට පුලූවන්ද?. එහෙම දේකට ඉඩ ලැබෙන්නේ ආගම මාරුකළ විට පමණි. බෞද්ධ මෙන්ම හින්දු තරුණියන් පාවා ගත් ඉස්ලාම් තරුණයින් ගැන අපි දනිමු. මා ජිවත්වෙන ප‍්‍රදේශයේද සිටිති. එහෙත් විවාහයෙන් පසුව ඒ කිසිදු තරුණියකට තමන්ගේ ආගම අදහන්ඩ නිදහස ලැබී නැත. හැම තරුණියක්ම ආගම ජාතිය චාරිත‍්‍ර මාරු කරගෙන ඉස්ලාම් කාන්තාවක් වී තිබේ. ඉතින් මෙතන තියෙන ප‍්‍රජාත්නත‍්‍රවාදය මොකක්ද?

මානව හිමිකම් ගැන කතාකරන සංවිධාන ලංකාවේ එමට ඇත. මේ හැම සංවිධානයක්ම රාජ්‍ය නොවන සංවිධානයකි. යුරෝපය කැනඩාව නැතිනම් ඇමරිකාවට ප්ලග් වැදී ක‍්‍රියාත්මක වෙයි.

මැතක් වෙනතුරු කතෝලික හා ක‍්‍රිස්තියානි ආගම් මිශ‍්‍රවිවාහ අනුමත කළේ නැත. ක‍්‍රිස්තියානි රටවල් මානව හිමිකම් ගැන කතාකරන්ඩ පටන්ගත් තැන් පටන් මෙම ආගම් මිශ‍්‍රවිවාහ අනුමත කරන්ට වුනි. ඒ කියන්නේ ලංකාවේ බෞද්ධ හෝ හින්දු තරුණයෙකු සමග කතෝලික තරුණියෙකුට විවාහවිමට නිදහස ලැබුණි. එහෙත් ඒ යට සිදුවන තව සෙල්ලමක් සිදුවෙයි. ඒක කොලේ වසා ගැසිමයි. ඒ කුමක්ද?

පාදිලිතුමා කතෝලික තරුණියව දේවස්ථානයට කැදවා 'විවාහය දේවස්ථානයේ කරගන්න' කියා පෙළඹවයි. මෙය හැම තැනකම සිදුවන ක‍්‍රියාවකි. දේවස්ථානයේ දී සිදුවන්නේ මනාලයා අල්තාරය ලග දණ ගැස්සවීමයි. මෙය බෞද්ධ තරුණයා විලිලැජ්ජාවෙන් කළයුතු වැඩකි. මා දන්නා හදුනන නුවර තරුණයෙක් සිය පෙම්වතිය ලබාගැනීම සදහා අල්තාරය ඉදිරියේ දණ ගැසිමෙන් අනතුරුව දරුණු මානසික පිඩනයකට ලක් වුයේ ය. මිතුරන් ගැණියෙක් නිසා අල්තාරය ලග දණ ගැසු ඔහුට' පොන්නයා' කියමින් විහිලූවක් කළ බැවිනි.

පල්ලියේ විවාහයට අකමැත්ත ප‍්‍රකාශකරන ආත්ම ගෞරවය අගයන බෞද්ධ මෙන්ම හින්දු තරුණයින්ද සිටිති. කාරණික පියවරු මෙබදු අවස්ථාවලදී ගසන වෙනත් තුරුම්පුවක් තිබේ. ඔවුන් දේවස්ථානයට තරුණිය කැදවා උපදින දරුවන් කතෝලික ආගමට හරවන්නැයි උපදෙස් දෙති.
මේ හැම කාරණාවකින්ම පැහැදිලි වෙන්නේ මානව හිමිකම් ගැන කියෙව්වාට ක‍්‍රිස්තියානි සංස්කාතිය ද ඉස්ලාම් සංස්කෘතික ලක්ෂණ අඩු නැතුව දරා සිටින බවයි. හිජාබය දමාගෙන ඔලූව වසා නොගන්නා බව ඇත්තකි. එත් වේල් එක දාගෙන මුහුණ සගවා ගන්නා ලෙසිනි. ඉස්ලාම් ආගම විවෘතවම කාන්තාව ආගම පැතිරවිම සදහා හබකයක් ලෙසින් භාවිතා කරයි. කතෝලික ආගම ස්ත‍්‍රිය ආගම පැතිරවිම සදහා ඇමක් වශයෙන් යෙදා ගනි. උඩින් එකක් කියා යටින් වෙන එකක් කරයි.

මේවා පැහැදිලි කරන්නෙකුට ආගම් අන්තවාදින් වශයෙන් පහර ගැසිමට ක‍්‍රිස්තියානි රටවලින් ප්ල්ග් කරන ඇන්ජිඹ් මානව හිතවාදිහු මැළි නොවෙති. බටහිරුන් මානව හිමිකම් සංවිධාන හදා තියෙන්නේ මෙවැනි වැඩ සදහාය. බෞද්ධ හා හින්දු ආගම් ස්ත‍්‍රිය ආගම් පතුරුවන ඇමක් වශයෙන් භාවිතා නොකරති. එයින් පැහැදිලි වෙන්නේ කාන්තාව පිළිබද බෞද්ධ හා හින්දු සිතුම උසස් බවයි

you dont have to be a buddhist to get into ananda, but in ananda, only buddhism is taught. anyway i had some class mates one muslim and couple of catholics

The case of Ananda is particularly bad because the constitution of Sri Lanka says that you have to be Sinhala Buddhist to get into Ananda College.

do you know the very meaning of ANANDA? it was found to protect sinhala buddhists and to educate them. thats what its called the "Baudhdha adyapanaye mudun malkada".

Schools like Ananda, Nalanda and Dharmaraja were started because at that time, there were no schools for a Buddhist student to get a good education-the piriven system didn't provide an education suitable to deal with the new world and that Catholic/Christian schools demanded the students to convert.
But do we have that need today?
There are so many cult groups trying to convert Buddhists so the parents may want their children to study in an environment agreeable with their religion. But I feel every person should have the freedom to choose one's religion, rather than forced into it simply because parents want to.
If the 5-6 year old students are questioned on religion to decide on admission to school, that doesn't seem fair to me.

They do make exceptions, I remember Imithas Bakeer Makaars son being there. The government tried to change this in 1999, and there was a massive demonstration in the school by students and monks. I remeber tagging along because I thought it was cool and a nice excuse to cut class, but later on I regret that decision. I am not certain of this but Nalanda doesn't allow any non-Buddhist students.

Ananda College was started at a time where the Sinhala Buddhist identity was in danger, at that time it was necessary. But now such ideologies are not necessary. Infact, the Sinhala Buddhist identity is by definition exclusive of other minorities.

And you don't have to tell about what it means to be an Anadian. Ananda has been the single most influential thing in my life, and i have tried to show gratitude and give something back to her at every possible instance. By gratitude I don't meaning showering Ananda with praise every time I speak her name, that is called synchophanticism. I recognize that Ananda has to evolve to reflect the best of our times, other wise it will become a suborn fossil that refuses to wither away. There is no such thing as a Sinhala Buddhist education, if you recognize such an education then there is a Christian, Tamil, Muslim alternative; such attitudes are divisive.
