We were lucky with SARS. I did mention this before, the SARS mutated with a 29 nucleotide deletion in the ORF8, which made the virus more virulent, but at the same time it lost the ability to infect the humans like before. This led to the downfall of the virus,
This time the variants become more transmissible.

PS: Let's hope somone comes with an effective anti-viral drug.
