    Nope there's no such law
The individual verbally abusing a woman, recording the abuse, and sharing it on social media.

If she steal his phone, he should contact the authorities. He has no right to behave in such an inappropriate manner.

If they are sensible, they will hire a competent lawyer, even if it requires significant effort or resources from her🥰🥰🥰.(If I am a lawyer I prefer this😍)

Many jurisdictions have laws against harassment, including verbal abuse. This could be considered emotional or psychological abuse, which is illegal in many places.
Recording without Consent. Depending on the jurisdiction, recording someone without their consent, especially in private settings, can be illegal.

If the recorded content defames the woman's character or invades her privacy, she may have grounds to sue for defamation or invasion of privacy.

Posting abusive content online can be classified as cyberbullying or online harassment, which many jurisdictions have specific laws against.

The woman can report the abuse to law enforcement, who can investigate and potentially press charges against the abuser.

She may sue for damages caused by the emotional distress and harm to her reputation.

    There is...
He is Abusing a women by words, recording it and sharing in social media.

If she steal the phone he should call the cops. He has no right to behave like a moron.

If they have brain they will hire a good lawyer at least by giving her ass if she doesn't have money.

Wouldn't it be funny to see her in court, accusing him of "abusing" her, lol...

Imagine how their argument would hold up in front of a judge

Shop owner's lawyer be like : Did you or did you not steal from the plaintiff?

Thief be like : Yes but he "abused" me afterwards, imhi imhi

Shop owner's lawyer be like : Abused how?

Thief : This dude had the audacity to stop me from running off with my ill-gotten gains, imhi imhi

    Shop owner's lawyer : ...

    Judge : ...

    Court : ...

Two different cases. For stealing she may be sentenced for a few months. But she can bring some good reasons for some excuses.

But for the guy has no such excuses, and that is completely different as he has many violations.

You're quoting American law 😅 in Sri Lanka we don't have multiple "jurisdictions" ( or different laws in different states ) 😬

Show me how "verbal abuse" is defined in SL law and how a shop owner detaining a thief without using physical force falls within that definition and I might believe you :-)

that's true, but she deserves it in my perspective. these are seasoned criminals. that guy may have to sell 15 phones to earn the value of the stolen item. These fucking mother fuckers come and steal shit like that, so easily ? fuck them. We have to implement hela bodu raja kale penalties and cut and chop hands to set an example.

this indeed falls under the child protective laws. i do not think a person has to obtain permission to record in public, that's the law in the US. if it was private property, then the business owner indeed has the rights to record in his own property. however, in the given context, the child will be bullied forever, unless it's also (most possibly) a hardened, seasoned criminal child.

Verbal abuse. Using swear words in front of a minor. "Ubala denna ehapaththa pare haminiyan" there is a lot like that he is using lot of bad words. I think you remember a muslim got sentenced for showing middle fingure to a women in Sri Lanka before a couple of years.

The shop owner cannot be held responsible if thieves use a minor to shield themselves; it could be argued that the thieves themselves are at fault for endangering and involving a minor in their theft

As I mentioned, these individuals are repeat offenders who have previously been convicted by the courts. They will need to serve both the suspended sentence and the sentence for their most recent offence.

    For theft?

I'd like to hear that excuse, especially since those thieves are repeat offenders lol. Most probably under a suspended sentence already.

These poor people no resources to get a good lawyer that's the problem. If they are able to hire a good lawyer these wont be a issue. They will re write the script like they need money for medicinal purposes or anything and they will create more fake evidence like they tried to get money by legal ways and all. But the victim should have a clear history in police records. If not this wont work. For a habitual crime there is no such excuses.

Verbal abuse alone in Sri Lanka is not a criminal offense, but it can be pursued through civil courts. However, in court, he can argue that the shop owner's emotional state was unstable due to the unlawful act committed by the criminals. He could say that he was having his own financial issues, and these criminals committed that offense amidst what he was going through, so he could say that he was concerned if the device was damaged or by the whole situation. If he has no prior criminal records, that also helps establish his image.

Causing emotional distress to a minor fall under child abuse, however, he did not address the child in any manner, neda? but then again he can be sued for harassment, public humiliation and intimidation in civil court for damages. (law allows it my dude, it isn't right but it's what it is) but these bitches will not have the money or means to do that.

@tilvin-silva stop virtue signaling like white liberal woman bro. It's cringy as fuck. I can see through your bullshit. hamme... afterall, you have no sympathy for a hard-working shop owner, that built his own business by investing his own money, leaning how to repair phones, going to pettah every month to get supplies etc.
