just because you marry you wont be happy and it doesnt mean your lonliness is gone. you might get a shitty woman who never gets into your fequency and will live in another world which is a worst nightmare.
all this talk of living alone when old is becuase we dont have a good social security system in sri lanka and we have been made to think that marriage is essential for a man. look at other countries...specially UK US and Australia

that fellow who killed himself in vihara mahe devi park was married was he happy? he had a kid also
athula adikari was married once upon a time is he with them now? he is alone now....so its all relative

the other reason to marry is social pressure....friends marrying so I must also marry. No guy really dreams of marrying and having kids....its all about sex. we may sometimes think of kids but that is not like a woman. we men want sex. so if we are given the chance to have sex first like in western countries trust me....most of the sri lankan men wont be married.
sri lankan men tend to loose their identity after marrying....like the other post above

giving up hobbies, not meeting with friends. too much relying on wife...all this lead to a very boring life specially for most medium class families. aftersome time regret starts to fill in specially if your wife is not what you expected. women also know this and will be at their best shape before marriage and after that they wont take care of you much becuase they know you will anyhow hang on to them because the stakes are high...for divorce.

Will depend on your personality machan. If you are a person who likes socializing I don't think been single is going to be good for you. Keep in mind that friends come and go. No one stays permanently with you (now don't give me the "Siyallama Anithyai" bullshit.) If you marry you will have a family around you and people who will genuinely love you. When you grow old, when you don't have a job you won't feel lonely cos you have someone with you.

if you stay alone, you can have partners time to time but in SL I don't think that companionship is something girls like doing. They always look for marriage. The real shit will come if you get sick and when you get old. Then you are on your own. If you are fucking rich you can do something, but if you are mid or poor then you are fucked machan. But when you are young you will not have any responsibilities

All the examples you have taken have money, side chicks and shit. So they really don't mind been alone. But when it comes to us it is a different story machan. Worse thing that can happen to a person is to have to depend on others who don't have any connection with that person.
Life doesn't look as black as it used to be 50, 60 years ago. Old folks those days didn't have much to do after the sun set, unless they got (large) families to keep them company. Now at least they have internet and stuff to keep in touch with those on the other side of the globe.
If we have friends we won't be short of people who'll come to our help whatever the age. We too should be ready to help others likewise, not necessarily be wealthy. Who knows, the wife may fall sick before you when you grow old. Everything is relative.
The bottom line is not to be dependent on anyone. To achieve this we need to have savings as much as we can.

    lol....good luck with that
Times are such that children are abroad and there's none to look after the parents back home.
You expect friends to look after each other when family members fail to?

If one is single then life would be less complicated. If there is a 'family' then friends might be reluctant to interfere. If we have money, (we could save cos there are no family expenses as such) we can afford to ask a known person (if not a friend) to support us. Another option is to enter a decent Elders home to keep company with people who have similar interests, age group and who shared the same times as us. This will ease pressure on the family whose members have their own hassles other than looking after us.

so then the whole argument of marrying is also not valid....even if children dont look after you.
