It's just a mesh covering your cabin air intake and cabin air pressure vent, nothing major. Rats enter the car through those openings.

I hope you didn't keep it inside the car, you have to keep the trap near the wheels, outside the car - you're inviting the entire rodent population around your house into your car otherwise
