there was a talk to buy the Mig 29 or the latest Mig 35 during MaRa's time.. but after the Yahapalanaya victory, the mig acquisition plan is apparently shelved

Mig 29 is too old,
mig 35 is good option

MIG27s you may refer as renowed because those 4 when we purchased they removed from service because of high maintenance cost and they have better fighters than this.
when we purchased overhauled for 10 years and particular running hours,
2006 to 2016 10 years gone and hours also expired
and only 1 remain
this body is old more than 40 years and useless to try to repair that remain one, thats why its grounded

According to SLAF their looking SU30 from 2015 because of money issues in the government its hold for now

Kfir is a ground attack plane but it is not designed as a pure ground attack aircraft as the MiG 27. Kfir is a multi role aircraft which means that it has the capability for ground attack but it is not a dedicated ground attack platform.

MiG was a renowned ground attack platform not because it is a MIG but rather it was designed to be a ground attack platform from the onset. There is a big difference between dedicated ground attack aircraft and a multi role air craft. The dedicated platform has a high degree of precision in ground attacks rather than a jack of all trade (multirole) fighter.

I agree with you about the high maintenance cost of the MiG 27 because they are notorious for break downs. Specially their engines, which wear out fast. I also agree that they should be replaced along side the Kfirs.

However, I don't think that we should buy MiG 35 or SU 30 because they are also notorious for high maintenance costs and their parts are hard to come by from Ruusian sources. The initial 6 SU 30s which we were going to buy was from the early Indian Airforce vintage aircrafts which were being refurbished by some European company. What Sri Lanka really needs is a batch of Pakistani made JF-17s.
