i don't usually reply to posts although i read them. but let me make a small exception on this one and give you a little heads up on this.

A business is considered profitable if and only the capital investment you have put in can makes 2 times the profit at the end of the year when compared to treasurery bonds taken at a rate of say 15% - 16%.

So, if you have 2 million.. consider the following condensed business plan.

    1. Invent .6 - .8 million on setting the shop up. Make sure you get it in a well crowded area or an upcoming urbanizing area.

    2. Make sure the product or the stream that you choose is either unique to the area or have less competition.... OR .. that you have a selective high quality or low quality range depending on your target customers.

On the selection of business.. Know that after the economic burst and recession during the past 2 years much of the IT sector has fallen down to cut throat business mindset. so unless you have invest heavily and wait for your returns.. not the best of options these days.

The best bet is to get into the retail sector of either foods or garments. Both the items have a less depreciation ratio and a good GP margins when it comes down to the last line (GP _ gross Profit)

    3. Get one or two people if you have a big enough showroom to start doing the business. Make sure you have dust free (if the items calls for it) and superior customer friendly business attitude.

    4. Start a promotional campaign (an aggressive) one simultaneously and keep it up for atleast 3- 5 months depending on your RR&T of the customers. (RR&T _ return rate & time - the time it takes a customer to turn around "consumables - 2-3 days" "clothes 1-2 months" etc)

    5. Depending on the size of your showroom, you may have to pay a rent between 45K - 100 K. Adding the utility bills, salaries for workers, interest for the loan will down you nearly a 200 K month. So make sure you have enough of a capital investment left off to inject into the business till it can stand on it's own and start making profit.

    5. Most suppliers will request a bank guarantee when giving items on consignment basis. So make sure you have atleast 5k floating in a Current Account to do so.

    6. Take as much as items you can on consignment basis and date the checks for 3 months. So, you will have enough time to get the money rolling BUT the day in and out sale will additionally generate interest on your behalf on the bank..

    Did you get it ???

example ; You take 150,000 rupee worth of clothes from a supplier. Give him a check dated for 45 or 90 days. And say that you have sold all these cloths within 1 month. So you have 2 more months to pay back and THAT money will generate interest for you in the bank

    ie. 150,000 with a MRP value of 250,000 @the rate of 10% per month will give you an additional 25K x 2 = 50 K + 250-150 = 200K of profit :) (easy calculation if you know what I am talking about)

    ----------------------------------
There's a lot of variables and hidden costs that does come into effect in these matters. But the best advice that I can give you is to invest in a business that make use of the organic or local products or features (cause it seems to be fashion these days... and good for the economy as well :) ... and take the loan from a relative or your parents... cause paying bank interest can really be a KILLER)

    enough for now?

if you need some more info and thoughts... drop a PM and I will try to reply if i have time or if i feel like doing so :)
