I was there in those days in Kandy. I remember the exposition of the tooth relic, and I've paid a visit to see the relic. I was — and still am — in Kandy.
I'm not denying what you're saying, but here's the simple truth: in 2009, the crowd wasn't as massive as it is now. When they got a crowd of around 400,000+ back then, they actually stopped the Dalada Wandanawa. This time, queues began even before the official starting date, and compared to the number of people who turned up, the available facilities were clearly inadequate. Anyone thinking rationally would understand that it's nearly impossible to accommodate such a massive crowd in a city like Kandy, which itself only has a population of around 120,000.
I shared this to break the myth being spread by the "Baiyas" claiming that the Dalada Dekma in 2009 was handled far better than this time. The truth is, back then they simply shut down the event once it became unmanageable. This time, however, the crowd exceeded expectations from the very beginning, and therefore they couldn't just stop it midway.
And if you think Kandy has turned into something like the Meethotamulla garbage dump, you've been misled by social media noise. Yes, there is garbage. Yes, officials and volunteers are struggling to manage it. But I assure you — people defecating in shopping bags is not the norm, it's the extreme and rare end of what’s happening.
