One arrested in incident involving abuse of female youth at SLPP rally

A 23-year old man has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a female youth who attended a rally organised by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) last night (Nov 7).

The Police Media Spokesman's office said an investigation had been launched into the incident, upon a complaint filed by girl's father at the Hemmathagama Police.

The father had lodged the complaint as his daughter and wife had not returned home until late.

Investigations have shown that the girl had been abused while returning home on a bus after the rally. Further investigations are underway.

SLPP politico remanded for alleged assault on woman supporter of Sajith

A Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Predeshiya Sabaha member and three others were remanded until tomorrow after they allegedly assaulted a 50-year-old female supporter of National Democratic Front Candidate Sajith Premadasa in Matale.

The incident had taken place on Friday near Kotuwagedara in Matale when the PS member and his supporters were returning from an SLPP political rally.

Some of his supporters loitered around the woman’s house before entering the house to attack her, police said

The woman identified as R. Ramyalatha, a mother of three children, was admitted to hospital after the attack.

The Matale Police arrested the suspects yesterday and produced them before Magistrate Siral Wimalasena who remanded them till tomorrow.
