    Vision

The full might of the west that was bent on separating our motherland, as the primary mechanism of controlling the Sri Lankan nation socially, politically, culturally and economically, has now been comprehensively vanquished.

It is now the time to reject the ideologies still adhering to these destructive forces. Our vision is to restore inter-racial harmony within a unitary state, eliminate corruption, establish good governance and to emerge as a triumphant nation. Our mission now is to be staunch, courageous and stalwart partners in the challenge to re-establish Sri Lanka as an autonomous, sovereign nation, free in all senses, to unflinchingly play our part in this monumental role destiny has entrusted to us.

    Profile

    Wimal Weerawansa

Wimal Weerawansha is widely regarded as an individual with great patriotism and strong principles. He offered nothing but himself; he offered blood, toil, tears and sweat to achieve one aim, an aim that can be explained in one word: Victory. Victory at all costs — Victory in spite of all terror — Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival.

In the eyes of many, there were two approaches to handle the LTTE-Terror menace, either through Negotiations or by Military victory. The majority with the blessings of “foreign countries and donor agencies” backed a “Negotiated” solution and there was a time in history where people were made to believe that “negotiations” was the only solution. Back then it was a crime to talk about a military solution. It is during the dark and sad period, Wimal stood up for a “military” solution against all odds! He did that, because he envisioned that a military victory over LTTE was possible and that was the correct way to take the county forward.

He was that “Strong Minority” who fought against a “Weak Majority”

within the government, to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa on his effort to eradicate the LTTE-terror menace, once and for all, from this land.

Not many are aware of Wimal’s multifaceted talents. He excelled as a cricketer at school, Kaluthara Tissa Madya Maha Vidyalaya, and he had played against future international greats such as Sanath Jayasuriya. However his dream was not become a cricketer. As a young student he experience and saw the social injustice and economic inequalities that existed which pushed him towards dedicating himself to liberate the needy and this was when he began his political carrier.
Wimal is also a great reader and he enriches his intellect by reading a wide variety of books. His collection includes books about Lord Buddha, Karl Marx, William Faulkner, André Gide, Emilio Salgari Vladimir Lenin, Jawaharlal Nehru and Jules Verne. He had also penned many books and articles covering a wide range of academic and social interest. Many may not be aware that it was Wimal who wrote the song “Uthuru Desin Enna..” which was the campaign theme song of President Mahinda Rajapaksa during the presidential election 2010.
Wimal is the leader of Jathika Nidahas Peramuna, the party that was formed by a group of member who broke away form Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the party through which he enterted politics during 1989 and grew up to be its Propaganda secretary. Wimal fell out of favor with the JVP leadership as he insisted that the party should support President Mahinda Rajapakse during his military campaign against the LTTE, which the JVP leadership was not very forthcoming. When the leadership of the JVP decided that its parliamentary members should abstain from voting for the government budget proposals for the year 2008, which would have caused a General Election since the government at that time did not have the required majority, Wimal voted in favor of the government, which was a major turning point in recent history.

(enjoying a light moment while Wimal was at Hiru News Paper)
Many international observes who have been looking at the recent developments in Sri Lanka have stated that Wimal as the most “Highly Prized Campaigner” for President Rajapaksa.

Wimal was first elected to Parliament in 1994 and was re-elected in 2004 with the second highest number of preferential votes. Many predict that Wimal would outperform his previous best of being number two and would achieve the highest number of preferential votes during the upcoming elections.
