Let me ask you one question,
So if Mattala is a great success, give me a reason why there are no incoming airlines except Fly Dubai?
This I don't have any answer to. But this can be addressed by a sustained Ad campaign and direct government initiative. There are lot of ways to attract airlines to Mattala. It only needs the initiative.
PS: I don't care its Mattala or Anuradhapura or wherever, what I say is we have to wait at least another 10-15 or more years to see a great revenue from mattala.
Why will it take 10-15 years?
but remember you cannot bring airlines just by having a BIG airport. you must have other facilities as well. what i say is there are no facilities in Mattala yet and will not be there for another at least 25 years for sure.
Any facility can be built in Mattala at anytime. Why you are so skeptical that there won't be any facilities for 25 years?
Best thing needed for our country was to modify the BIA and add another runaway.
(මත්තල හදන්න වියදම් කරපු සල්ලි වලින් අලුත් BIA Runaway එක හදන්න ගන්න ඉඩම් වලට ගෙවන්න තිබුනා)
By the way this is my idea not a political view.
It's not about the money. The issue is far deep.
1) Airforce don't want to move. (I personally believe that Karunayake Airbase should be moved to Mattla or somewhere else in deep South)
2) The strategic location of it's neighborhood.
3) Relocation problem of the well rooted citizens of Katunayake.
