Majority of the programmes especially the children tv programmes were from the Australian Broadcasting Corp. Cant exactly remember the origin of the programme.

There was a fantastic line up of programmes from MTV since its inception back in the early 90s. Sames goes for the TNL channel. When they first start broadcasting they did telecast many English programmes. I remember they used to show Men In Black cartoon series on Fridays at 4.30pm.

This was done by CBK after she and two children went to India for a state visit. It was believed two children asked this to be aired free to children. So Rupavahini did it but later they also got a second channel for education only from japan. In fact our first channel was also a gift from japan for 3 hrs educational TV but we messed it and also second one (now Eye). I do not think japan will give any more.
Discovery was aired through free to air from pick up from sat footprint of indian channel. I do not think we paid a big sum for this and can do it again. the knowledge cannot be measured in money.

later ITN also got DW documentary which was also high quality..

The very first of this kind was Mysterious World 1 and 2 both narrated by late Sir Arthur C Clerk. Sponsored by CIC paints these were early 80s and they were quite new . At that time we rarely got a new one . Most of the entertainments including documentaries were ages old.

There were many more before famous Sir David Attenborough's BBC productions and again we got fairly new Blue Planet sponsored by IBM

I remeber when they started showing discovery in rupawahini. Also remeber that president Chandrika kumaranathunga addressed the public and told that the government decided to bring discovery channel content to the national television to give a flavor of international television to sri lankan kids. We were thrilled to hear that.
