Very sad. Watched about one hour of it and would continue watching later. Though the cause of Stiff Person Syndrome remains unknown, it's suspected to be an autoimmune reaction. The immune system seems to attack a protein called Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase (GAD) and Most people with SPS have elevated levels of GAD antibodies.

Throughout Asia it's either under reported or under diagnosed. The answer is only one. I am aware of several ALS cases though. There is an increase or now ALS is being properly diagnosed.

Sadly it's mostly unknown. The mechanisms behind these neurogenerative diseases are not clearly understood. All these diseases are chatacterized by protein misfolding in the brain and if someone finds why, then the problem could be addressed.
