For fuel imports, addressing Sri Lanka’s energy crisis. Extended by India to mitigate power cuts and shortages.
$200 million extension (May 2022):
Added to an existing $500 million credit line for emergency fuel stocks, bringing the total to $1.2 billion for fuel imports.
Additional $1.5 billion sought (March 2022):
Sri Lanka requested this for essential imports, on top of the $1 billion already pledged, though not all was finalized.
$400 million currency swap (2022):
Via the Reserve Bank of India to boost Sri Lanka’s foreign exchange reserves.Deferred payments: India deferred $1.5 billion in import payments under the Asian Clearing Union.
Total aid in 2022: Around $4 billion, including credit lines, currency swaps, and loan deferrals, described as a “lifeline” by Sri Lankan officials.
