Cant compare countries such as Australia and and America with Sri lanka. Our land area is very small. Can go from the noth to the south within the day. Devolution of Power doesn't make sense. Colombo district, as the commercial centre, will be the decision making hub and control the other districts.

It's not the land area, it's the amount of people and their unique cultures

Look how big India is with the land area + a billion people. Therefore no wonder it has 29 states

Where as Aus is even bigger than India, in terms of land size but only has 27 million people, yet it has 6 states and 2 territories

USA has much less than the population of India but has 50 states for good reasons. If you ever compared the accent of a southern border state like Texas vs a financial centre like the New York, you would know what I am talking about.

Yes, SL is smaller than all of them but for that small land area size, it has such a large population, who speak 3 to 4 distinct languages and culturally diverse. Compare the unique difference in dominant cultures/ languages of provinces such as Northern, Southern and Eastern provinces and why devolution of power was always recommended by the intellects.

It's sad that a youngster like you, believing a person from Jaffna should travel all the way to Colombo, passing 300 plus KMS, to get their passport/ driver's licence because you believe Colombo should be the hub for everyone. Don't you think it makes sense to open branches of those institutes in every province as we are all human? The main reason, Western province out smart others is because it's maintained as the admin capital and not because it has all the resources. So what's wrong if there was a sister school of every major school in the western province in other 8 provinces from the beginning, to make sure no child is left behind?

I have met really nice Tamils, Muslims and Burghers, in SL, who respected me since I respected them

People who held the ideology that war cannot bring lasting peace were badly treated back then, including internationally recognised Journalists

Ask yourself, why countries like India, USA etc., with that many states, with that many races, never had such prolonged war like SL, in the recent history?

That's because of devolution of power to the states

Look at the history of both countries - ever heard of the massacre when Pakistan was created and the American revolutionary war and Civil war in the USA?

How would you react if your villagers were harassed by another village, due to ethnicity?

As long as the Western province makes all key decisions about Tax payer funds allocation, to other states, along with Police powers, this ethnic problem will keep happening

In Australia, for eg every state, can issue their own Drivers' licence, recruit the Police and you can obtain the national Passport from any post office but I believe no state can utilise the defence force at its whimsy

At the same time, I believe Western Australia wanted to secede but it never happened. WA is such a large state, bordering the ocean with plenty of natural resources and perhaps able to sustain by itself. Quebec in Canada, wanted to secede as well but never happened, must be because people respect everyone's existence, via the law enforcement.

Ask why everyone wants to move to Colombo?

Please update yourselves about the massacres in 1956 and 1983, done by the Buddhist majority, along with JVP insurrections, due to economic problems

No race wants to be dictated by another. A race means a unique culture. Ever heard about the popular term "race card" in the Western world?

Ask yourself how come LTTE survived that long including obtaining its own Air and Naval forces? Do you even know the size of the population of Tami Nadu, who helped SL during its recent economic crises?

No they shouldn't. There must be offices in Jaffna too. Even People who are abroad get their passports done via the embassies.
