1957 වර්ෂයේදී චීන-ශ්රී ලංකා මිත්රත්වය ආරම්භ කරන ලද එස්.ඩබ්.ආර්.ඩී. බණ්ඩාරනායක මහතා ගේ නමින් අනුස්මරණ ශාලාවක් ඉදිකිරීමේ අවශ්යතාව එදා සිරිමාවෝ බණ්ඩාරනායක මැතිණිය ගේ 1960-64 ආණ්ඩුවට එවක චීන ආණ්ඩුව විසින් යෝජනා කරන ලදී.
පසුව ඒ පිළිබඳ මූලික කටයුතු සොයා බැලීම සඳහා මෙහි ආ චීන දූත පිරිසක් ඊට ඉඩමක් සොයමින් රට පුරා සංචාරය කළ හ. මේ සිදුවීම අළලා එදා UNP තක්කඩියෝ ‘චීන ආක්රමණයක්‘ පිළිබඳ භීතිය රට පුරා අවුලන්නට වූ හ. එයින් කුපිත වූ මෙරට මෝඩ ජන කොටස් විවිධ නගරවල පදිංචි ව සිටි චීන දත් බඳින්නන්ට හිරිහැර කළ බව වාර්තා වේ.
අවසානයේ සිදු වූයේ මේ අභූත ප්රචාර නිසා ම සිරිමාවෝ බණ්ඩාරනායක මැතිණිය ගේ ආණ්ඩුව 1964දී කඩා වැටීම ය. ඉන්පසු රටේ බලය ඇල්ලූ UNP දේශපාලුවෝ අද මෙන් ම බණ්ඩාරනායක අනුස්මරණ අන්තර්ජාතික සම්මන්ත්රණ ශාලාව ඉදිකිරීමේ ව්යාපෘතිය නවතා දමා තිබේ.
ඉන්පසු චීන තානාපති කාර්යාලය වෙත එවනු ලබන විවිධ ලිපිද්රව්ය සහ උපකරණ රේගුවේදී විශේෂ පරීක්ෂණයට ලක් කරන වැඩපිළිවෙලක් ද UNP ආණ්ඩුව ආරම්භ කරන ලද අතර, 1965 අගෝස්තු 12වැනි දා, එන්.ශන්මුගදාසන් ගේ අනුග්රාහකත්වයෙන් මෙරටට පැමිණ යාපනයේ සංචාරයක් සිදු කළ චීන තරුණ පිරිසකට ද, UNP පාදඩයෝ අඩන්තේට්ටම්
කළ හ.
මේ සිදුවිමෙන් පසු චීන රජය විසින් මෙරට UNP ආණ්ඩුවට දැඩි ලෙස අවවාද කරන ලද බව පැවසේ.
අවසානයේ බණ්ඩාරනායක අනුස්මරණ අන්තර්ජාතික සම්මන්ත්රණ ශාලාව නැවත ඉදිකිරීමට පටන් ගෙන තිබෙන්නේ සමගි පෙරමුණු ආණ්ඩුව 1970දී බලයට පත් වීමෙන් පසුව ය.
අද කොළඹ ජාත්යන්තර පොත් ප්රදර්ශනය, කලම්බු ෂොපිං, වෙඩිං වැනි අලෙවි ප්රදර්ශන ද, විවිධ සංස්කෘතික සම්මාන උළෙල පැවැත්වෙන්නේ ද ඒ චීන කොලණියේ ය.

Under UNP regime JR's brother HWJ as an envoy of JR, was able to get Chinese grant to build Superior Courts complex which was far more than than cost of BMICH.
China gave T56 at a fraction of cost of AK47 (best assault weapon at that time in 80s) at the start of war in 80s. They gave us materials to fight the war when UK and US did not want to provide such.
China never interfered with war like west during 84-94 under UNP and provided all the help.
When there was a ceasefire under CBK they provided a grant to build Nelumpokuna under CBK
There after they also provided grant to build Sirimavo Bandaranayake Convention Centre under CBK

China is still a developing country and 1980s it was not an economic power like now , so their strategy was different in international relations.
Now their funding pattern is different.
Belt and road is a very new concept where they now try to capture the power (like US , USSR, UK). This has nothing to do with Sri Lankan politics. Except that there is massive corruption in China(their public servant's salary is very low like in SL). So they use corruption as a weapon to exploit countries where currption is high. This is again relatively new method and we know our country is corrupt no matter which govt comes to power.
so do not blame Chinese they are doing what UK , US, USSR , France did earlier with much sophistication and with new tools eg South China artificial island , Landing probe on mars , etc.
For them no country is too small or big and their politics irrelevant.
