There was pandemonium in a Colombo bound bus from Kalawellawa, in Matugama in the early hours of yesterday, due to two unexpected commuters who had joined the journey.
The unwelcome commuters were two huge cobras that crept out from under a seat frightening the passengers.
Seeing the two cobras, the passengers had panicked and rushed to the exit and the entrance of the bus while some had jumped out of the windows.
After all the passengers had got out of the bus the conductor had seen a man who was apparently drunk and fast asleep in one of the seats. When the conductor awoke him it was found that he was a snake charmer and the owner of the two cobras.
On learning what had happened the angry passengers had handed over the snake charmer to the nearby police check point. Thereafter the bus had proceeded to the Kalawellawa hospital to obtain treatment to the passengers who received minor injuries in the rush to get out of the bus.
The snake charmer was taken into police custody.
