Hi all:
I have been thinking on just how dangerous Normon Osbourne is in Dark Reign. Here are some points I got a feeling are going to happen.
To begin with every "Superhero, Metahuman" and human thinks of Normon Osbourne as the Green Goblin, a violent, destructive maniac without control or planning ability.
Normon Osbourne ran a multi-national successfully for years. This man is NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED!!! He is smart, he is cold blooded, he is tough, connected to both the underworld and the feds, and he thinks 10 moves ahead. The heros think because he was commited for insanity that he is no threat, talk about arrogance and stupidity. The line between Genius and Insanity is very thin.
In Dark Reign #1 he has Dr. Doom, Emma Frost, Loki, Namor and the newest villian, rampage(?) sitting at a table waiting for Normon to make his pitch. Talk about a pitch, he offers each what they want most in the world. Immunity, support, intelligence, respectability ect.
The only string is to work together, make nice for the media and NOT attack each other. I have to admit, Osbourne is a powerful negotiater and leader. He pointed out how if Fury and Stark had worked with the "villians" they might have stopped the skrull invasion cold, instead Stark's self-rightiousness caused a lot of problems that the villans can expand on and use. Osbourne also knows that with his controling a govt organization that has unlimited power he can legally destroy any superhero he wants.
Osbourne is no fool either he knows each of his "vice-presidents" has their own agenda's and accepts it. In fact I think he approves of it. Osbourne is setting up a "Network of Villianry" that will grow in power. Consider what can happen when an organized group hit a dis-organized group? The dis-organized group is destroyed.
Cut to Mighty Avengers #48, after the final battle with the Skrulls, the rebels, un-registered heros meet to decide what to do. In the first two pages you can see the dis-trust, anomocity to several people, and general unease. They unify for awhile to find Luke and Jessica's kid, but when they cannot find any trace of the child, they splinter and go their own ways. Luke goes to Normon Osbourne for help, who has Bullseye and Venom behind him. I cannot blame Luke much, his "friends" are not doing to much good, and he wants his kid. Now Normon has an informer inside the un-registered heros.
Now cut to Dark Reign, New World #1 this is a multi-story comic,
1: Nick Fury is trying to form a new SHIELD using his Skrull Killers as a core group. He and his group could be called terrorists by Osbourne, and considering the anomosity the intelligence groups had to Shield and Fury its a probibility.
2: Meta humans from outside the country are starting a crime spree even Osbourne cannot stop and control. More fear and Dis-trust.
3: Jim Rhodes, is going off the deep end with all the prostetics he has had implanted and is working outside the system. Definetly a Loose Cannon.
4: The 3-D man, the only one who can see through the Skrulls disguises, is touring America looking for Skrulls. How soon before the Skrulls decide to remove this person, with extreme predigist?? The 3-D man is possibly the most dangerous man to the Skrulls at this time, and he is running around with NO PLAN.
5: Bobbi Morris (Mocking Bird) is really a bitch, First she accuses hawkeye of being a skrull. Then says that after 5-6 yrs their marriage is a farce and they are different people. After that she broadcasts on an old Shield transmitter, using an old code to arrange for a meet with who knows??
Even considering that Shield might still be active in some places, she convienently forgets she was a whistle blower on Shield Corruption before she met clint (Hawkeye). In the 5-6 yrs she has been "asleep" there has been massive changes in the intel community she is unaware of and one other thing, Osbourne will want someone to "interview/interrogate" what better than an ex-shield agent, ex-avenger, and maybe deep cover skrull? I would not give this lady much of a chance of staying free.
But this goes back to my question "How stupid or Arrogant is Tony Stark?" These hero's are totally underestimating what Osbourne can do, they are not trying to heal wounds, form alliances and they are just going their own rightous way.
Even Ms Marvel doesn't realize how dangerous Osbourne is now. She has a price on her head, intelligence organizations hunting her and I will bet Osbourne has let the underworld know that price on her head includes a pardon.
Final question: Could Normon Osbourne be a deep cover Skrull??
Personally I am waiting for the body count to start
