I don't even know.
EDMONTON - A woman who was part of a female trio that used high heels to attack a city man at a church over a christening snub has been given a conditional discharge.
Gisele Kanganza Musau, 32, was placed on probation for 12 months Friday after pleading guilty to assault.
Court heard the dust-up at the Fellowship Baptist Church on April 4, 2010, was the fallout from Kanganza Musau's sister not being chosen as the godmother of a child being christened as the result of rumours being spread about her working as a prostitute.
Crown prosecutor Kelly Kwok said the parents of the child, Max Mubelakumimba and Nadia Ngolo, had attended a service at the church that day and when it concluded at 4 p.m., Mubelakumimba went into the lobby.
However, when he spotted the other two accused, Monique Mbuyi Mala, 30, and Alice Kafuny-a-Makang, 35, in the lobby, Mubelakumimba kept on going, said Kwok.
Mbuyi Mala caught up to Mubelakumimba and slapped him on the back of his head, near his ear, and he ran away as Kafuny-a-Makang said she was going to stab him with a screwdriver, said Kwok.
Kanganza Musau and Mbuyi Mala were then seen trying to hit Mubelakumimba with their high-heeled shoes, said Kwok, adding the victim suffered a heavy-feeling head.
The prosecutor said it was aggravating that it was "a three-on-one group assault that took place in a church in front of children."
Defence lawyer Laurie Wood told court that Kanganza Musau's sister had gone to the Congo for a visit and when she returned, she learned Mubelakumimba had been spreading a "terrible rumour" that she had been acting as a prostitute while in Africa.
Then, the sister was told she was no longer going to be allowed to be the child's godmother, said Wood.
As a result of the incident, Kanganza Musau - a single mother of two - was banned from the church where she had volunteered in the choir.
"She is deeply ashamed of her conduct," Wood said.
Kanganza Musau was ordered to take anger-management counselling and perform 75 hours of community service.
She was also prohibited from having contact with the victim or his wife or going within four blocks of the church.
If she successfully completes her probation, she will not get a permanent criminal record.
The other two woman were both placed on 12 months probation after pleading guilty to assault.
