I have to remind you, that I am also a proud Sri Lankan like you though I live here now...

I'll try to explain the topic since I can see some are beginning to understand the thread.
Plus and Minus both has a value.
Most people do not recognize both.
Terrorist is minus and should be removed from society..
What is plus?
People like Buddha, Jesus, are plus. They are real heroes. Killing Jesus was a killing pure love.
The tragedy is many people who try to remove Minus from society have no sense of Plus characters... like Buddha or Jesus.
And people who follow them blindly has no worry about Prabhakara or Osama.
I think thats why all this difficulty with a simple neutral quote.
Death of a thought process has a negative or a positive value.
To undertand it fully one should know both. Plus and Minus

I think that we have been too used to readymade things... We don't want to learn.. we only want to pass exams, so we attend tution classes which we can get readymade answers for the exam... parents feed us grinded food so we don't have to chew... I think I've started to think being with indians..I had to. Here even little children are very sharp and broad inded.Actually Neo-indians who are more westernised in thinking, even surpassing westerners. It is said that the best computer programmers of the world are Indians..
Indians are brought up more disciplined and with more independance than us, Sri Lankans. They respect parents and teachers more than we do. To us it is more lip service.There are very poor schools here taught in English medium..
I feel sorry about Sri Lankan students who are still struggling with English.. I know one Sri Lankan Father who was against his clever daughter's admission to the english medium school. Principle begged him but he refuced. That is
the mentality of us.We are one of the very backward country in constant decline. You have to visit another country to see the difference. Whole system is made to make us more and more stupid... I feel so lucky to be here among with people whom I can grow with. Don't misunderstand me as condemning my own country.. but that is truth. As long as we cover our limitations with past glory we will never grow out of our limitations.

I agree with your explanations. I think Sri Lankans can surpass any nation if we followed Buddha's teaching as he wanted us. Indian Buddhists follow Buddha's teaching much deeper than us. I know many people here practice Buddhist meditation daily one hour morning and one hour.. There is are some very popular Buddhist meditation centers around.. The Government of Maharashtra had passed a Resolution that offers 10 days paid leave for senior government officials to undertake Buddhist Meditation courses.We actually don't know Buddha's teaching. We have only memorised his words like our monks and I feel very dumb among Buddhist Indians and ashamed of our parents and teachers who deceived us making Buddha as a poor God to pray. They talk deeper teachings very casually because they have been taught with the experience. For us they are mere words...As far as I know in Hyderabad too, Buddhist Meditation is popular..I agree that their education and development is not well spreaded.. but I think that many Indians are satisfied with what little they have... So poor don't suffer and they feel like affluent... This is my experience because once I visited a little village and they are very content with what they have.

you mentioned that they follow the teachings of buddha more deeper than us, what reffers you to tell that.....is that because they meditate? or for what they talk?.... the most importnt thing is the understanding of what you do and its consequence to you and for the others/society. after all with those meditation classes, how do you know the person engaged in taking tution for meditation have found the right thought and rythem? or that person has added any good to his life or thoughts?

as i told you earleir you are easily deceived and here you have accepted it.
this is so poor of you, if you had any space in your so called broad, sharp and independent mind for self understanding, you should knew that the teaching of buddha is not to be memorised or not to worship buddha as a god. it is clearly sead in buddhism not to embrace it for the sake of it, but to study and see the core of it.

We needed so many ministers so that we have the support necessary to sustain a stable government that can take action against a problem.. if you can't get them on your side showing the moral side of it, what's left to do is to get them using their own greed, at least use their greed ultimately for a good cause!

Well... a Sinhalese politician will never be recognized in EELAM, our politicians are not that stupid when it comes to knowing of where is the money is at, why there's so much hassle in Sri Lankan Cricket board now where before 1996 no one really cared!

I don't wish to pass judgments about what would UNP do, all I know is that both UNP and SLFP led govts. had their share of chances to finish this, but one thing they never did was learn from the mistakes of the previous govt.

It was evident that talks wont work with these terrorists, even a 4th grader would tell you that in Sri Lanka and people knew there was no other way to counter this problem than crushing them militarily, as long as they had the gun in hand they were not going to accept what we had to say, and by no means they have a right to the so called EELAM either!
