I don't wish to pass judgments about what would UNP do, all I know is that both UNP and SLFP led govts. had their share of chances to finish this, but one thing they never did was learn from the mistakes of the previous govt.
It was evident that talks wont work with these terrorists, even a 4th grader would tell you that in Sri Lankaand people knew there was no other way to counter this problem than crushing them militarily, as long as they had the gun in hand they were not going to accept what we had to say, and by no means they have a right to the so called EELAM either!
The Main weapon LTTE had was CFA (cease fire agreements) when they were in trouble or when they want to have a break they always fired from CFA to GOSL, in the past it did more dmage than firing from 160mm Arti,
