Being hit doesn't make one weak... it is only open... But being hit and broken is the result of being weak like this point of yours.

I have already answered what you had to say about Sri Lanka, its time for you to either realize what I've said or to put forward your new discussions, if you got none then I'm not interested in your nonsense!

So come back with proper information and points to discuss when you have them, have a nice day!

Besdies, Meditation wasn't a thing that Lord Buddha invented.. it was practiced by Hinduism way before Buddhists, so meditation was adopted from Hinduism to Buddhism but on Buddhist terms!
I asked an Indian friend who practice Buddhist Meditation... Sabrina is a seniour assistant Teacher of Buddist Insight Meditation. She said, you may not know anything about Buddha or his meditation Techniques. She said Sri Lanka is the country which saved Buddha's teaching by writing them for the first time but they do not try to practice beyond Pancha seela..(I told her that they don't follow even that now.)

She said that Buddha practiced Hindu Meditation techniques to its highest ever, to the eighth Jhana and realized that Hindu techniques only settles the Klesha deeper into the mind. Mind seem to be purer but impurities remain within the mind. So Buddha dropped them and started his search to find the way to purify the mind completely. That is how he discovered Insight meditation as described in Satipattana... (She explained that too a bit, but you may not be interested in that) That purifies the mind... She said that sages who practiced Hindu techniques used to get angry could curse people for they had Klesha in their minds... Buddha never got angry or any other emotion but very sensitive to others suffering.. He sensed others suffering even befor they themselves face it... She told me to read reports about Yasa, Rajjumala..etc
Finally she told me that there is no point of trying to make someone understand meditation if he has never even tried it. For him it is something he imagines.
I asked her, then why do you tell me these... She said that she belives that one day I would practice and see... I really don't know, I might.. We thought of a visit to the main meditation centre some 3 hours away from Mumbai.. If I would ever practice it, I am grateful to your ignorance in Buddhist meditation which led me to realize my ignorance.

Whenever you kill a human being you are killing a source of thought too. A human being is a collection of ideas, and these ideas take moral precedence over a society. Ideas are patterns of value.
-Robert T. Pirsig
A death can be helpful to a society or harmful.

No doubt about that, when a human is killed, it kills a source of thought too... a collection of ideas which have been gone through a process of experiential learning. So the knowldge is vast depending on the age too.

Yes, a death can be helpful or harmful.

e.g. Prabhakaran's death was helpful for Sri Lanka because it opened a gateway for development.
Lakshman Kadirgamar's death was harmful to Sri Lanka because, because of that SL lost some good human relations within the international community.

No body can deny that I guess :D

Che Guavera, Rohana Wijeweera are also can be aligned with the same spectrum.

But, on the other hand, it depends on the perspective you look at things.
Rohana and Che were terrorists for some, and were saviours for some. Same applies to Prabhakaran. Some concider him a saviour while others as a ruthless terrorist.

Nice thought by the way.

well your friend just displayed her ignorance. Meditation is practiced in SL by both the ordained and the non ordained (although few in number).

This is exactly what is meant by saying "meditation was adopted from Hinduism to Buddhism but on Buddhist terms"
Looks like its better if you stick to Sinhala for these type of threads.

    Sis ( I suppose u r a girl),
If the persons thoughts, plans, actions harm the society, its future & definitely the living conditions of the community plus his/her actions are producing cruelty to the society he is definitely a terrorist, psychopath and a cancer to the society!
If he leads the society to uplift its condition and wellbeing of the people, without being barberic and cruel he is a hero! - In that sense the greate Gandhi is a real hero! & the good example for a terrorist is the barberic Prabhakaran who paid his life for the sins he committed over years!

As far as I understand she said that Hindu techniques were useless.. so he dropped them... then there is no question of adoption...I think what he discovered is unique... this discovery made him so unique compared to others...If I would ever practice I would tell more... This discussion tempt me to know more about by practice.. Sabrina said one can never understand an experience through intelect... She said you would know the taste only if you eat it.. I feel interested... but doubts haunt me...

Exactly... It is not so complicated theory, but some gets confused with their own pre-conclusions..

this is what you need to undersatand the most.......
you are too dependent on others words and acts. just think free and broad. you just beleive in what you see, but what you seen always is not the realty, in most cases it lies under the cover. some day you will understand it of your own.

Well, according to Buddhist history, Lord Buddha didnt discard the meditation practices of the hinduism as "useless". He found that true enlightenment cannot be found solely from those techniques so he sought out his own but it was still based on these existing techniques.

The "Ana pana sathi" meditation, the most basic of the meditations practiced in Buddhism is directly taken from Hinduism

Doesn't change a thing of what I've said!

Go read my reply again.. But It proves that you knew nothing about Buddhism when you started the discussion, I'm happy you took the effort to go and ask someone!
