    Heaven :p

:baffled:

I am a DevOps Eng with 4 years of exp.
(Senior). Hoping to become a Cloud Architect one day. One of the best fields in my opinion. My current salary is a little less than 1,050,000LKR. (am in Sri lanka working for a Sri Lankan Company) But my salary can be an exception because the interview went super smooth and they were blinded by that I guess :D . There are a very limited number of "Engineers" in sri Lanks, same is the case with both SE and DevOps. If you understand concepts, if you can propose new, better solutions, implement them, one can become an Engineer, otherwise you are either a just a maintainer of a legacy code base or an "IT Guy" who instructs people to restart machines.

Most important DevOps Tools That you can self-learn and land a job

    • Linux - A must . If you have money complete RHCSA - Refer Freecodecamp or Udemy
    • Docker - Containerisation and concept and basic commands - Youtube
    • Cloud Service Provider - My choice is AWS, but Azure also seems to be releasing very useful DevOps related services and becoming a clear opponent.
If you prefer AWS, Complete AWS SAA. Stehpane Maarek's Udemy course is good.

    • Scripting Language - My Choice Python and Bash. Once you follow a basic course start completing Hackerrank problems and Neetcode.io
    • Kubernetes - CKA, A bit hard, but worth it. Make sure you play with Docker First
    • CICD Technology - Jenkins preferred, Github actions - clean and easy to learn. First understand what is CICD and then learn one tool
    • Infrastructure as a Code - Terraform Preferred, AWS Cloudformation
    • Configuration Management Tools - Ansible, Puppet
    • Monitoring Tools - Nagios, Prometheus

Adding to @BumbleB 's thoughts. DevOps is not a job role like SE. DevOps is a concept and practice which consists continuous improvements, process improvements, security, monitoring and governance. So, for me it's basically much more interesting and good pathway. Good devops resources are very hard to find in the industry now. If you are interested in more than coding, DevOps is thepath. Salary is definetly in par with SE's and sometimes more. Experience of me - ATL DevOps. Did Mechanical Engineering degree for my Bachelors :-D Worked in an aparel comapny for 5 years. Did IT projects. self-learned throughout the career, applied known knowledge to projects.
