First choose the field you like! And the field you have an interest in!

Management is Management... But in any Management degree you have Marketing, HR, Finance, some IT subjects. Coz they should be managed in order to manage a company.

So first choose whether you need to do Management as the major, or Finance as the major?

Then let's figure out the Uni :)

Best thing is to pass A/Ls properly and enter a Sri lankan uni to do Management. Or else you can do Management Degree in J'pura externally as well. (That is if you have passed A/Ls.)

    Danne neth hinda ne ahuwe!:nerd::(

I want to do management as main consentration...
    ( I got 1A & 2C for A/Ls, 5As and 2S for O/Ls )
If I'm doing it externally(local) what is the best place to do?
Is there other alternatives (lik ACBT , APIIT in management)?
What is the best the ext: digree in J'pura or ACBT or APIIT or other institute!!

    And what is open univercity??

Open Uni is also attached to the UGC and anyone can enter it if they meet the criteria defined for a particular course event. Typically its an aptitude test plus some O/L results.

If you are interested in doing management degree externally I think the best place in J'Pura. Plus if you can do something like CIMA or CIM part time basis it would give you the boost. But know ur limits before u attempt things k.

The best option is to get 3As and then do the Colombo or Moratuwa Uni Degree (Internal)

I don't think you need to get 3As for that. But still you have to get really good results and a good Z Score to enter those 2 unis.

If not, you might need to spend a lot to obtain qualifications to become a SW Engineer.

Even if you spend money and become a SW engineer with qualifications like BIT or something like that, then your chance of getting a good job in Sri Lanka is not sure. Because there are many Uni graduates who the employers think much more better than BIT degree holders.

But again it comes back to your ability, creativity and ENGLISH!

If you have a normal degree in IT and then some additional qualifications coupled with good English skills, then you can compete well with the others :)

Better concentrate more on A/Ls and get good results :)
    good:)
    thanx xpert ayya.
Im sure that I will be able to gt As 4 chemistry and maths.but not 4 physics:(

what should I do to b a software engineer and go abroad?I like to go to US (specially)
    so what should I do?????

Im good in engish bcaz I did my O/L s in english medium and also I studied in english medium from grade 6 onwards............

Kalindu its not a must that you get best results in A/Ls. But try to get good results. I got 2As and 1B and I could have entered Mora. Yet I wanted to software engineering so I entered the UCSC (Plus I didnt like any other engineering field offered by mora other than computer so I couldnt risk it). So like that, once you have good results, options are open for you. First just finish your A/Ls. There are hell of a lot you can do.
I like to get out of the country............

First do A/Ls really well machang. And then after getting results you can go to education agents like IDP to discuss about going abroad.

You have to do IELTS or TOEFEL to go abroad. IELTS and TOEFL are english testing methods.

So after doing A/Ls and before getting the results better to do those exams. (IELTS or TOEFL.)

And again, do some background exams like Microsoft, JAVA certified exams while you're staying for results :)

SLIIT degree costs about 100,000 per year.

So you have to study 3 or 4 years which comes to 300,000 - 400,000

Going abroad is very expensive compared to that.

    In Australia it's like 15,000 - 20,000 AU$ per year. (1,500,000 SLR - 2,000,000 SLR)

    So 3 or 4 years is :baffled::baffled:

What I did was, I did 2 years in SLIIT. And after the Diploma came to Aus.

While doing the Dip @ SLIIT I worked for Commercial Bank and Virtusa.

So with that experience I got a better job here as well. So I'm not spending Sri Lankan money. I'm earning here and spending for my self.

So while doing some higher studies, gaining some experience is really important if you don't have that amount of huge money to spend machang :)

im not sure about rajarata and uva regarding their facilities, but in UCSC you will have a hell of a scope to do your IT studies. IT has about 9 fully equipped (most having C2D processor based computers + LCD panels) computer labs with Wi-Fi enabled environment to carry out your studies. Has a staff of 30 odd lecturers with 20 odd PHD holders in areas as Neural, Multimedia, Networking, VR, Robotics etc.
thankx 4 info .ucsc select wunoth ela:)

its not that easy to get to US from the IT field. They will have an extensive check on you specially when they know ur from SL. However there are HSMP(High Skilled Migration Programs) to goto UK and Aussie once you have a degree and some working experience. I guess it will be better if you can stay in SL and have an established carrier in SL(Like 2-3 years) and then try going abroad.

Plus you will be charged about Rs.100,000 just for applying for HSMP programs. Only then they will atleast consider your application. So its best if you can get it first time without failures.

    Hope that helped you.

Thats a good plan. But machan I heard that Aussie recently imposed a rule saying that ppl who are under student Visa cannot work more than 20hrs a week. Is that true? If so wont that be a problem to earn the money for living and paying for your education?

That wasn't a new rule machang. Always it was there...
    Only 20 hrs

But when you get like $25 - $30 per hour, it's enough machang.

Not a super fabulous life style. But you can survive :)

    Everywhere
a SLIIT student told me that there is just a one degree program in their institute for those who wish to do IT.

he said that as in APIIT, in SLIIT students cant select what they want to do.

eg- in APIIT students can chose any thing from these things

    • B.Sc (Hons) Computing
    • B.Sc (Hons) Computing with specialisation in Software Engineering
    • B.Sc (Hons) Computing with specialisation in Multimedia
    • B.Sc (Hons) Computing with specialisation in Web Development
    • B.Sc (Hons) E-Commerce
but a SLIIT student cant select their path like this . they just have only 1 course to do.

this is what he said to me. is it true??

Well as far as i know there is no such thing. SLIIT also offers a gr8 number of choices. Maybe there is one general year for all students and from the 2nd year onwards you can select ur field.

[I didn't get your last sentence machang...]

I know you have some knowledge in hardware field ne?

So better start with something like CCNA machang. (Cisco Certified Network Associate.)

Then you can do CCNP (CC NW Professional.) and finally CCIE (CC Internet Expert)

CCNA, CCNP and CCIE are relevent to the Routing and Switching sub section machang.

    See this diagram.

And go to this link for more info : http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/learning_career_certifications_and_learning_paths_home.html

CISCO seems like the best path for you bro :D

This is not a degree. But a professional level qualification. Don't know about Networking 'degrees' in SL machang. But Cisco qualifications are more recognised than a degree in the industry :)

Ya ya just one IT degree machang. (Well.. 2)

they have just 5 undergraduate degrees.

    BSc(Hons) in IT
    BSc in IT (Curtin)
    BSc in IS
    BSc in Networking
    BIT

Yes the selection is sort of poor. But the IT degree covers all aspects like sw engineering, multimedia, networking, some management etc.

Adding a little to that.. if u have the cisco certificate.. (atleast a CCNA) it's pretty easy to find a job and thn continue learning while gettin paid.!!
