a SLIIT student told me that there is just a one degree program in their institute for those who wish to do IT.

he said that as in APIIT, in SLIIT students cant select what they want to do.

eg- in APIIT students can chose any thing from these things

• B.Sc (Hons) Computing
• B.Sc (Hons) Computing with specialisation in Software Engineering
• B.Sc (Hons) Computing with specialisation in Multimedia
• B.Sc (Hons) Computing with specialisation in Web Development
• B.Sc (Hons) E-Commerce
but a SLIIT student cant select their path like this . they just have only 1 course to do.

I know you have some knowledge in hardware field ne?

So better start with something like CCNA machang. (Cisco Certified Network Associate.)

Then you can do CCNP (CC NW Professional.) and finally CCIE (CC Internet Expert)

CCNA, CCNP and CCIE are relevent to the Routing and Switching sub section machang.

This is not a degree. But a professional level qualification. Don't know about Networking 'degrees' in SL machang. But Cisco qualifications are more recognised than a degree in the industry

A sort of a 'good' networking degree should have:

Discreet Mathematics - Algorithms, time complexity, analysis, Counting, permutations and combinations. Graphs, paths and cycles. Boolean algebra, circuit synthesis.

Network Fundamentals - Layered network models., physical, data link, network, and transport layer technologies., Local Area Networks (wired and wireless)., TCP/IP Internetworking., Routing algorithms., IP Addressing.

Some sort of a Systems Analysis subject - Feasibility studies and systems analysis, Make versus buy. Internal verification and external validation issues and techniques., Interfaces between the systems analyst and: the organisation, primary systems users, systems designers and systems suppliers.

Network Architecture - Data-link, Network and Transport Layer Terminology;, Hierarchical and Logical Network Design; VLSM IP addressing and Naming; Routing Protocols including RIP, OSPF, and EIGRP; VOIP Technologies; WAN Technologies such as Point to Point Protocol (PPP), ISDN, Frame Relay, ATM, DSL., Network Testing and Documentation.

Ya ya just one IT degree machang. (Well.. 2)

they have just 5 undergraduate degrees.

BSc(Hons) in IT
BSc in IT (Curtin)
BSc in IS
BSc in Networking
BIT

Yes the selection is sort of poor. But the IT degree covers all aspects like sw engineering, multimedia, networking, some management etc.

Well as far as i know there is no such thing. SLIIT also offers a gr8 number of choices. Maybe there is one general year for all students and from the 2nd year onwards you can select ur field.

xpert aiya said that their isnt any thing to select. he said in that degree they cover all the areas such as management, software eng, etc.
i think its not a good thing when comparing other institutes. hell they give a lot of options to select

Ya SLIIT have more free feeling like x-pert says (weekdays students). but not for weekend students
