How to Wipe Personal Data from Cell Phones

    BFE5z93Y-mbDd-3F.jpg

Identity theft, phishing, and other similar attacks that exploit personal account information are a threat when you use your credit cards, set up an e-mail account, or shop online. You can also be a victim of such scams when you discard your mobile device without completely wiping personal data off it. If you are using a Windows Mobile phone, and are planning to sell it, make sure that you delete all personal data. Here's how:
Your IT department can wipe it remotely if your mobile phone was managed using your office's Exchange server. But if the device is not a work-issued phone, you will have to do it by yourself. First, you have to reinstall the device's operating system. Make sure that you install the same operating system version your phone is currently using. This is to avoid making the buyer angry over a bricked device.
Go to your Windows Mobile phone's manufacturer's website for instructions on how to reinstall the operating system. You may want to buy a third-party tool for added security. Sprite Terminator can delete personal information from Windows Mobile phones. This application (which costs $15) can also remotely wipe off your personal account if the device is stolen or lost. Lastly, you should remove the SIM card, if your phone has one.

    Harry Potter Video Game Delayed

Warner Bros. has announced that the latest Harry Potter movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be released later than originally planned.
Harry Potter fans also have another reason to be disappointed. Electronic Arts has recently announced that the latest Harry Potter video game will not be released until next summer.
EA and Warner Bros. Interactive has announced that the game's released had been postponed upon the delay of the movie that was originally scheduled for release on November 2008. The release date is now set for July 2009.
President and CEO Alan Horn admitted in his August statement that Warner Bros. Could make more money if the movie was released in the summer saying that, "the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film." Shortly after, Horn issued an apology to fans, saying Warner Bros. "would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films."
Robert Nashak, VP of EA Casual Studios said in a statement that "We're excited about the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince videogame in development and its high level of authenticity and playability."
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince video game is developed by EA's Bright Light Studios, the team responsible for the other Harry Potter Video games. It is scheduled for release for the Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Playstation 2, Playstation Portable (PSP), Nintendo DS, Windows PC, Mac and Mobile gadgets.
The latest Harry Potter game will reportedly have several features that create an authentic head coaching experience. One of the game's most popular, and reportedly most innovative, feature is the ability to create custom plays that can be imported into Madden NFL 09.
Nashak's statement also said that "we are creating an immersive game experience that Potter fans around the world will really enjoy playing as they fly and duel their way through the story of the film. The game will feature new Wii gestures and increased gameplay capabilities across all of the platforms".
Still hatemail from fans keep pouring in. Fans even posted complaint videos on YouTube.
The announcement regarding the delay also caused the shares of EA to fall 3 percent, according to Reuters. According to EA, the title had been expected to generate $120 million in revenue and 13 cents a share in profit in its current fiscal year, ending in March 31, 2009.

    Wind-Powered Rotating Skyscraper in Dubai

    wyHk7TdYsPFDqNFW.jpg

By 2010 Dubai will be having its own eco-friendly skyscrapers. They are going to be independently rotating skyscrapers. Wind-powered, they will be 420 meters high with 80 floors. Designed by Dr. David Fisher of Dynamic Architecture, it is said that they will be installed with 48 turbines which will allow it to rotate. In this case, it will generate and supply its own electricity and, which makes it, practically, environment-friendly.
As Dubai experiences some 4,000 winds every year that are, generating enough power to sustain sufficient electricity for a year is no problem at all. In fact, it only needs just four of its turbines to just do that, and it will be enough to supply the skyscraper an annual amount of power it needs. The other forty-four turbines, on the other hand, will provide the energy needed for its power grid.
Building the skyscraper will not take conventional means. That is, not from the ground up. Instead each floor will have to be readily built in segments in a factory nearby. Probably the best part about this is each apartment will be self-contained and it design will be based upon the desires of the tenants themselves.

Apple, Victim Of Its Own Success

    K4rHKM6ifoAtKn63.JPG

Apple has enjoyed quite a success with its line of portable and cool consumer products. It all started with the release of the wildly popular and ultra cool iPod portable media player in 2001. This established Apple as a major player once again and the success led to the release of other consumer products such as the iPod Nano, and the iPod iTouch.
But recently, the company seems to become a victim of its own rise to success. Their success arrived at a very fast pace with the release of their different products on such a short span of time. But it seems that the rate may be slowing down, at least in terms of the excitement that people feel with Apple's recent product launches. And this was prominently seen at the recent September iPod event.
Whereas previous Apple events were met with enthusiasm and excitement, the recent was just coolly received by analysts. The reason may come from the way Apple tries to hype up their events that lead to sometimes too unrealistic expectations among followers. Finally the expectations caught up with them. The release of the new line of iPods did not elicit the kind excitement that it was used to.

The new products apple recently released were either revamped versions of their product line including entries into HD TV's and the announcement of NBC coming back to iTunes. This is not something that would really bring Apple product users into frenzy.
The recent lukewarm reception of the iPod event may signal the entry of Apple into a period of the doldrums for lack of innovative features to offer for their new product line. Rest assured that competitors might be on their way to catch up by looking out for the "next big thing" in the hopes of duplicating th success that Apple enjoyed this past few years.

    FranklinCovey FCmobilelife for Mobile Phone

    XazNjH9dW97za6_j.jpg

With mobility becoming an integral part of everyday life, new sets of tools are needed in order to make the integration go more smoothly. And nothing captures the idea of this increasing mobility than the use of today's new smart phones. On their own, these smart phones can do little. But add up other useful tools and features into it and the smart phone even becomes a formidable tool able to provide more mobility to users when it comes to doing various tasks from basically anywhere.
More effective mobility is what FCmobilelife for mobile phones is offering. A product by expert time management firm FranklinCovey, the FCmobilelife is a powerful online mobile client that allows individuals and groups to conduct on-time collaboration of schedules and tasks using the handy mobile phone. It is a useful tool that makes sense to individuals and small groups with the need to collaborate tasks and schedules with others even when they are located from different points of the compass. That is a mobility tool a highly mobile team on the field, an organization or a small business might find very useful.
The FCmobilelife connects a mobile phone with a hosted back-end server that allows users of the client tool to do task management on their mobile phone. And because the information is stored in a hosted server, other members of the team may be able to access it and update and coordinate their own schedules and tasks. Communication between groups is also made through the multimedia tools to keep track with other members of the team and share important information. This useful tool works on mobile phones supporting Blackberry/Java and Windows Mobile platforms.
With the set-up provided by the FCmobilelife, there is no longer a need to update tasks and schedules by syncing from a desktop client. Updating is done while on the go, thanks to a hosted back-end server that can be accessed from a mobile phone anywhere.

Microsoft Slashes Xbox 360 Console Price

    DiBElwxFkK6R6eXp.jpg

Microsoft recently lowered the prices for its Xbox 360 game consoles in an effort to boost sales. This is in response to the console not being able to keep up with its competitors feature-wise in attracting new consumers. Slashing the price of the Microsoft game console is one of the best ways for the company to boost their sales in absence of having innovations added into it. And it might just attract a number of consumers to buy them.
Affordability is an effective means to attract new consumers. And with the Xbox 360 having its price slashed by as much as 80 bucks, it indeed becomes quite an attractive offer. With the price slash, the Xbox becomes the most affordable gaming console in the market, going for at least 50 bucks lower than the best selling Nintendo Wii. High end units of the Xbox 360 also followed suit in the price slashing escapade.
Making the Xbox 360 consoles more affordable will have a beneficial effect on the sales of the number three video game console in the market. It would certainly boost sales by capturing a certain segment of the gaming console market and even making new ones in the process. It would only be some time before PS3 and the Wii to follow suit just to maintain their standing. This time, it's Microsoft who made the first move.

    USB Train Tickets

    TubRcnhdcjPTy-6E.jpg

Gone are the days when we had to use ordinary tickets to take the train. Now, to access just about anything - our mp3 players, gadgets, what-have-yous - we use a USB.
It's very convenient and allows you to bypass long lines of people waiting their turn to get a ticket. That's several minutes you don't have to spend getting pissed and annoyed.
This is exactly what technology is supposed to do, make our lives easier. And no, you don't even have to SMS ticket service.
    How does it work?
The USB ticket is a system which uses a WENEO ID Smart or a USB card which allows passengers to pay for their ticket online. They can use it via the RFID reader.
A project on the SNCF, the system cuts the person-to-person purchasing system while allowing for ease of use and saves you precious time.
A user only needs to plug in his/her USB into his/her computer and then pay for the tickets online in advance, withdrawing funds directly from their own bank account.
However, not everyone owns a USB, let alone a computer.
As of now however, this project is still on a test run. The SCNF is still trying out about 1,000 passengers right now. Should this project prove to be successful, conventional ticketing could disappear just like that.

    Best Digital Cameras for Kids

    YsBAMAHTYfM74ERu.jpg

If you don't want to get food on your digital camera or if you don't want to have them smashed into several tiny pieces, then you might want to consider getting your child a kid-friendly digicam.
If your kid is around 7-8 years old, then maybe you want to let them have your old shooter. Then, you have an excuse to get yourself that nice shiny new one! For your younger kids, you can get them one of the following:
    Crayola 2.1 MP Digital Camera
It's lightweight and compact and has a neck strap. However, its LCD is kind of low in quality and has no internal memory. And it only has a single-eye viewfinder. It has a built-in flash and accepts SD cards up to 3GB. This little camera runs on 3 AAA batteries.
It's quite sturdy, or at least sturdier than a regular digicam. It's easy for kids to use because it only has 5 buttons - on/off, forward and reverse playback, delete and a shutter button. It also only has one setting - high vs. low resolution. Although, it doesn't have additional special camera features, it does have basic photo editing software, games and other kid-friendly software which you can run on your PC.
The Crayola 2.1 MP Digital Camera's LCD is meant for kids, because if a grown-up were to use it, it would be unacceptable. First, it's small. Next, it can hardly be used in any lighting situation. The images can get really washed out and you can hardly frame your photo, not that your three-year old will be thinking of those things, but still...
Third, shots taken with the flash seem blown out, so much that some subjects are hard to recognize when shot up close. On the plus side, images - especially those taken at a high resolution 1,600x1,200 - are surprisingly good, once you upload them on your computer, that is. Overall, this digicam is fairly good... at least for the little kiddies. Good enough to print out 6x4s.

Two more things, always make sure you have an SD card on hand before letting your little one play with this camera (no internal memory, remember?), and the SD card slot and the battery compartments have to be screwed to be accessed. Probably another safety measure so that kids won't stick their fingers. Just make sure you have screwdrivers too, because those tykes can get really impatient!
    Specs
    • 2.1 megapixels
    • 1.3-inch LCD
    • Priced at $59.99
    Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Digital Camera
This one's really durable. It's also waterproof, and has a two-eye finder. It has a rubberized grip to prevent slipping, and to absorb shock in case your little one drops it. Apart from the different exterior, the camera features are pretty similar to the Crayola.

The downside is that its shutter button is a little hard to press. It's LCD is also of low quality and has low resolution. On top of all that, it has no memory card slots. According to reports, it's supposed to be the clunkiest among the three.

It also has five buttons, except for the shutter button which the manufacturers mounted on the front rather than on top of the camera, which then recesses in such a way that is hard for some kids to press. Kid-tough digicam also doesn't come with a strap so it's prone to being dropped.

There's also no hook or hole that you can attach a strap to so you'll probably end up carrying the bulky thing once your kid grows tired of playing with it. On the plus side, it has a two-eye viewfinder which makes it easier for kids to use especially since the LCD is of really low quality. Kid-tough also doesn't come with other on-camera functions, save for going from high to low resolution.

It also doesn't have other software that kids can play with. The image quality is very low, but again, it's something the kids don't seem to mind. The onboard memory can hold up to 500 pictures. To upload them to your computer, you will need the included USB cable. The battery compartment doesn't require a screw to be opened (yet its latch is still impossible to open), so that is probably a plus. It works on 4 AAA batteries.
    Specs
    • 1.3 interpolated megapixels
    • 1.5-inch LCD
    • 64MB internal memory
    • Priced at $50.00
    Vtech Kidizoom Digital Camera
Vtech Kidizoom has got to be the best among the three. It has a high-resolution, video capability and lots of cool things that kids will love. For one, it has on-camera games - tic-tac-toe, a rotation puzzle, and a matching pairs game - that are really handy when they have nothing else to do. It even comes with volume buttons for the games. It has a video shooting mode, though the quality is not very high.

Also, if you plan to shoot lots of videos (or lots of pictures for that matter) you will need a bigger memory. Luckily, the Vtevh Kidizoom accepts extended memory of up to 16MB using an SB card. You can also play images and video on your television using the 2 changeable face plates (install the one your kid would like better and then assume that the other one will be lost sometime).

The Vtech's LCD is the best among the three, which is makes it more usable as a real camera. The image quality is the same as the Crayola, which means they are acceptable for printing small pictures. And speaking of pictures, another fun feature of this camera is the on-camera photo effects, meaning you can add cartoony effects or enhancements to your photos--think bunny ears, mustaches, eye patches...name it!
Like the Fisher-Price digital camera, it has a two-eye viewfinder that is great for helping kids frame shots. It may not be as durable and rubberized as the other, but it's still fairly durable. On top of all these, the Vetch kidizoom comes with a wrist strap to prevent dropping the camera. The downside is, like the Crayola, the battery and SD card compartments require a screwdriver. To make things worse, the Vtech has two compartments for batteries.

All these features might be a bit much for your preschooler, what with all the functions and the buttons - all 7 of them, plus a 4-directional joystick. You will have to go over the menu system until you're used to what each icon means. However, reportedly a 4 ½ year old kid - with adult prompting - had no trouble mastering the Vtech Kidizoom for only a short period of time

    Digital Pacifier Thermometer

    FXH-FPYFsjwX4NTE.jpg

When your baby gets sick, his/her temperature should be monitored very closely. Checking your baby's temperature is usually before and after taking their medication. Taking your baby's temperature is probably the hardest part because babies can get restless and irritable, and because they are not feeling well, they tend to move and cry a lot to convey this message.
Using the old thermometer - glass and mercury - might be difficult and dangerous. Since your baby gets irritable when you stick it in his/her armpits or mouth, the glass could break - which in itself is already quite dangerous - and the mercury could leak, which is even more dangerous.
Your best bet is probably the ear thermometer which is safe and easy to use, and only requires a few seconds for it get your baby's temperature. However, ear thermometers are quite costly.
For moms who want tehe best tools for their kids health, yet are on a tight budget, your solution is here.
    How it works?
The pacifier thermometer is safe yet efficient. It functions just like an ordinary pacifier. Just put it in your child's mouth and wait until the pacifier beeps. The beep means the reading is complete. The reading is either in celsius or fahrenheit. The pacifier thermometer also has a Fever Alert glow feature which lights up either in green or red to tell you whether your baby has to be checked by his/her pediatrician.
The Pacifier Thermometer is a safe and accurate way to take and monitor your baby's temperature. Plus,it's also very affordable at only $9.99.
