    - Who killed them?
    - I don't know. I'm relying on you.
    - We're... expensive.
    - .... I have a restaurant and a big house in Paris. They're all yours.

[Did you have another movie like day? Hi, this is Ko Sun young from Midnight FM. Tonight will be the precious last time that I share with you. I hope the next two hours will be an unforgettable experience. Those of you still up at this hour and listening to this show send in texts to #2112]

    okknMS7.jpg

    - Ko Sun young? Did you get my fax?

    - Hello. Who is this?

    - You'll play the songs as it appears on the list. Because I'm holding your family hostage. Or your sister will die.

    - What?

    - Listen carefully. If you try to tell anyone about this situation and I kill them.

    - Who are you? Stop this sick joke!

    - Does this look like a joke to you? Look! I am holding your family hostage. Where is your daughter anyway? I only see this kid.

    - Please... Why are you doing this?

    - From this moment, you'll be running the show according to my instructions. I'll tell you what you should play next. July 18, 2005. Was the first week after you started the show. I want the first song you played that day.

    - ··· It ain't...

    - What do you mean? I dug up the old cue sheet.

    - I specifically requested the song you played on July 18, 2005. And
the version you played wasn't the original. You even said yourself. That Cohen version was in the movie but not on the OST! You don't even remember what you said. I am really disappointed. Look! Ko Sun young! I'll give you one more chance to make up. With the next song.

    - Please... what is it that you want? Is it money? I'll give you it to you.

    - It's not money that I want.

    - Let's meet up I'll come over to you.

    - You'll come here? How can you be so irresponsible? This is your last broadcast! Wasn't it your idea to make a memorable time with your fans? And, now... you'll abandon the show and come here?

    - Please! What is this about?

    - You will not stop the broadcast! Because, If you do... It'll be your sister's ankle not just a toe. Next is the
theme song from taxi driver You must say the exact thing you said when you played that song on Dec 5, 2006.···We've still got so much work to do together.

    FFUOuD2.jpg

    - [We're back with part 3 of the show. In part 3, we'll be connecting to one of the listeners and have a live chat. We already have a caller I'll put him through] Hello? Can you tell us who you are?

    - Hi. About me? I'm someone who believes this program is all about you. I don't think anyone else can replace you on this program. An unqualified DJ like Se yeon? Simply unacceptable! Although she won't be able to now, even if she wants.

    - What do you for a living?

    - I... I raise rabbits. Because I just adore rabbits. They love to hide from me when I as much as blink. But they cause trouble time to time. And, one of them has a injury on the neck. You said earlier. Parting could be a way to preserve love eternally. If my rabbits vanish one day. Then, I'll be able to keep their loving memories. So, I... Found the two rabbits that got away. And killed them.

    - You son of a bitch! What the fuck did you do with the kids? What did you do with them?

    - Was it so hard to follow my instructions? But, you're too late. I've already killed them.

    - Liar! You're a hero. A hero would never do such a thing.

    - Come and collect the bodies. I'm turning myself in.

    - My kids... they're alive, aren't they?

    - Ms. Ko, the sky is white and clouds are black today. Come meet me. Hurry. Are you on your way? Can't wait to see the kids? Then, let's get started with part 4. Tap tap tap, if the answer is yes.

    - I did exactly as you told me. Now, where are the kids?

    - Don't worry about them. They're safe in my hands. You said that I was a hero. Did you mean that? People change their words all the time. I can't feel the sincerity in your words anymore.

    - You're right, Han Dong-soo. I've been spitting pretentious words out of my mouth. But. You're just a dumb killer who can't tell a broadcast from reality.

    7Wer1KZ.jpg

    - He is the one responsible for the recent serial murders. I pulled up his record. He was arrested for attempted murder 4 years ago. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia during investigation. He was sent to a mental institution for 3 years and got released last year. This type of serial killer is known as mission oriented. They believe they're doing good for the society by ridding the world of criminals. I'm saying that he's a mental case who believes his cause.

    - But what does he have to do with Ko Sun young?

    - Look at the dates. I think he was motivated by Sun young's radio program. The dates of the murders coincide with the program schedule. He's using the term partner he probably wants recognition from his object of obsession.

    [
Travis from "Taxi Driver", drives his taxi every night through the decadent streets of New York. 'Someday a real rain will come and wash all the scum off the streets' Why do get such satisfaction from watching our heroes in the movie. Because in reality, no one takes care of the wrongs we come across everyday. Where is my hero right now? Are you listening to me? Heroes sometimes suffer at the weight of their fate. But, it's that suffering makes them stronger. Travis put his beliefs into action. He might be the man we need in this time of rampant immorality:::::Tomorrow will be my last show before I leave for New York. I'm sad to leave but tomorrow. I'll wait for you here at Midnight F.M. With the soundtrack from Stranger than Paradise. I'll conclude tonight's broadcast. Talking about the movies reminds me of the killer's chilling glare. There is a serial killer at large going after criminals. I don't want to see psychos even in the movies. I hope you enjoy the rest of the night. and that tomorrow will be another movie like day. This is Ko Sun young saying goodbye. Midnight F.M]

[Elvis Live, "On the Line" It's midnight. The witching hour. Good morning to all you night crawling, circadian rhythm rejects, you nocturnal emitters that I like to call my family. The studio's filling up, everybody's getting settled, And this evening, we've got a newbie joining the show. A rookie. And his name is... let's have a drum roll... his name is... Dylan. Talk to us live on air and tell us about all of your issues and problems, Call us at 806-806-TALK. All right, people. Here we go. Settle in, relax. Gimme a call. This is "On the Line"]

    - We got Gary on the line. What say you, Gary?

    - [I'm not doing so hot, Elvis. I'm gonna do something really screwed up tonight]

    - All right, Gary, listen. All's well. We're here for you. Now, where are you right now?

    - [I'm in Pasadena]

    - Gary, Let's talk. I love Pasadena. Where exactly are you? Does the home belong to someone you know?

    - [It belongs to a worthless piece of shit. And I'm gonna take out his whole family]

    - Gary, come on. Why hurt his family If he's a worthless piece of shit? I mean, they're innocent. Don't let your instinct for revenge drive you to do something that you'll probably be paying for the rest of your life. Tell me calmly, what's this guy done to you to make you so upset?

    - [He destroyed my life, and I'm gonna destroy his]

    - An eye for an eye. Gary, you're playing a game called "You Lose," all right? Now, whoever he is, he didn't destroy your life. Don't give him that power. You know? Gary, stop, wait, listen. If you want, we can chat about this offline. I can't keep you on the air. I'm sorry. Let's chat offline. I promise you, together we can fix it.

    - [No! Do not cut me off the air, or I'll go upstairs and I'll kill everybody]

    - You're not gonna kill anyone. All right? Everything's gonna be fine. You're still live on air, but I don't want you to be in danger or put anyone else in danger, okay? Now, what part of Pasadena are you in?

    84pzTU1.jpg

    - [Near Arlington Gardens. Yeah, it's a neighborhood you know all too well 'cause I'm at your house. 976 Orange Grove Boulevard. What a nice house you can buy when you host a shitty show like yours!]

    - Gary, I don't know if this is some kind of joke. I mean, I got nothing to hide from my listeners. If that's true, and you're really at my house, we'll continue this conversation offline. Off the air. The police will be there in a minute.

    - [I don't give a fuck about the cops, and you better not cut me off]

    - Gary. Hold on a second.

    - [Don't cut me off! Don't you dare!]

    - I have no choice, Gary. We can't let you...

    - (Daddy!)

    - Adria? Listen, it's over. The police will be there in a minute. Leave my daughter alone. It's not too late. I won't press charges, I promise.

    - [Tell the cops to stay outside. We don't need them for the show]

    - There is no show, Gary. The reality is, the police will take you out if you don't comply. Now, I won't press charges. I just want you to leave my fam.. Gary, what was that? What the fuck's happening?

    - (Honey...)

    - Oh. Olivia? Baby, you all right?

    - (Do as he says, please, I'm begging you. He just fired shots into the fucking wall!) [That was just to shut your trap. Next time, I'm gonna aim for your daughter and your wife]

    - Gary, I'm listening. Okay? Tell me what you're pissed about. I mean, clearly, I don't know you, but you're obviously very angry with me and I need to know why. Listen, you got the air all to yourself, okay? So just off load. Who are you, Gary? Are you a fan of the show just trying to create some kind of buzz, some sort of prank? Well, congratulations. It's working. You got me, okay? I'm scared to fucking death, man, honestly. Now, look, you've had your laughs..

    - [Stop fucking around. You think I actually listen to your show for insomniac freaks who call up for your advice?]

    - Calm down, now. What do you want? Nobody wants anybody to get hurt, okay?

    - [Don't talk to me like I'm one of your airhead listeners. I wanna ruin your life, just like you ruined mine. Now, the show's really getting started. So I lied about being at your house, but I am with your family. They fought, they squealed. But I managed to tame them.···Hey, Elvis, you there? Yoo hoo? Anybody out there? You're kidding me. Am I all alone on the air? Wow, this is like a childhood fantasy come true. But hey, Elvis, I do hope you can still hear me out there 'cause tonight, I've gone out of my way to make sure you spend the worst night of your life. See, I've created a game, and I think you're gonna love it. The rules are simple. If you lose, I kill. I'll let you in on a secret. I'm still at your home, in a way. I wasn't exactly lying to you earlier. I'm at your home. This is your second home, after all. We're gonna have some fun. Dear listeners, You're about to hear the last 40 minutes in the history of Elvis's show. In 40 minutes, boom! I respect your show, Elvis. It deserves some sparkle. In the army, I was an explosive ordnance disposal specialist. I miss fireworks. Windows, the door, the basement, the garage. Everything is wired to blow. You have a chance. If you find me, I won't blow up the building and I'll just kill you]

    Phenomena 1985*

    - When a dead body is exposed to the elements, sooner or later it is eaten up by insects. Eight groups of insects that follow one another installing themselves at exact moments, and on precise terms. Never sooner and never later. We call them the eight squadrons of death! First comes the common fly lays its eggs on the rotting corpse. And thus the cycle begins. Each group stays 15 days. 15, multiplied by 8. The number of the groups is Four months. In the case of this head, the cycle not only seems to be complete, but to have been repeated. Which puts us at Eight months!

    - Now I see. By calculating the presence and growth of the flies or the maggots, you can pinpoint the exact date of death. (Forensic Entomology)

    - Or murder. Our victim was decapitated some eight months ago. And 15 days. 15 days while the body was submerged in the lake, before the putrefying gasses brought it to the surface, and thence to the shore, where the first flies arrived.

    - So we could say that she lost her head somewhere between, September 7th and 10th. The first girl to disappear that was 9th September. A 14 year old girl. The body was never found.

    - Just like the other girls. After finding this, what's the use of hiding from the facts? There's a serial killer! Someone who murders young girls.

    7xGenpS.jpg

"The föhn. A very particular wind. Typical of this part of the country. It comes from the Alps. The blasts of warm air cause snow avalanches. Make the flowers grow. The hatching of the larvae. Some people get headaches. When it's very strong, it's even said to drive people insane. This is a very strange region of the country. The Transylvania of Switzerland"

    Ozknm98.jpg

    - So you think the glove belonged to the killer?

    - Yeah, I'm sure of it. But why the maggots?

    - They're larvae of the Great Sarcophagus. It lives exclusively off dead bodies. Human remains. Its sensory perception is extraordinary, quite unique.

    - Why larvae in the killer's gloves?

    - Perhaps because when he kills, he hides victims' bodies and maintain physical contact with them. He keeps them. He's a necrophiliac.

    sd3VAuL.jpg

    - You see.. that glove? An insect.. a firefly led me to it. The police came to the school. They asked me a lot of questions. I didn't tell them how I found the glove. I didn't want them to think I was crazy.

    - You can tell me. What happened?

    - I was standing alone in the dark. And I needed help. And a firefly, it was like it heard me and it answered my call! But that's ridiculous!

    - It's new. That's the essence of discovery to a scientist. Purely new, the things I've discovered. Things my fellow scientists consider absurd. Extrasensory perception. The paranormal powers that are unusual in human beings are perfectly normal in insects! Some species communicate with each other over vast distances by telepathy. These little creatures have enormous power. It's perfectly normal for insects to be slightly telepathic. (Telepathy among Insects 12 May 1895 - C. V. Riley)

    - Sure, it's normal for insects. But am I normal?

    - We're lucky to be alive.

    - We'll see how lucky that is.

    - There's nothing wrong out here.

    - [Is anybody there? This is Lawrence, Kansas. This is Joe Huxley. I'm broadcasting out of the science building at the university of Kansas. Is anybody there? I have an atmosphere report for anybody who's listening] Dr. Oakes, do you read? Come in, Dr. Oakes. Do you hear me?

    - Yes, Joe.

    - We're holding fast at just a hair under, uh, 50 rads per hour. I thought that it would have diminished by now. I guess that means we're picking up a lot of nuclear fallout.

    - When will it be safe to move people to other buildings?

    - It'll never be safe.···Wait till it gets down to under 2 rads an hour. If and when. You picked up anybody else on your end?

    - Not a soul.

    - [This is Lawrence, Kansas, is anybody there? Anybody at all?]

    IxgbNKt.jpg

    - There's been quite a lot of stealing going on.

    - Close the doors! Don't let anyone else in. Put on extra guards if you have to. How can we care for people if we have no control.
    ............................

    - Doctor, have you heard about firing squads?

    - What are you talking about?

    - They're shooting people.

    - Shooting? What for?

    - Looting, hijacking, rape, murder.

    - Without a trial? That's crazy!
    ............................

    - What's your injury?

    - I can't keep nothin' in. Not even my own hair. I got these bruises, all over my arm. Look, I know we got radiation sickness. The only question is there anything that we can do about it?

    04bbFYc.jpg

[My fellow Americans, while the extent of damage to our country is still uncertain, and shall probably remain so for some time, preliminary reports indicate that principal weapons impact points included military and industrial targets in most sectors of the United States. There is, at the present time, a ceasefire with the Soviet Union which has sustained damage equally catastrophic. Many of you listening to me today have suffered personal injury, sudden separation from loved ones, and the tragic loss of your families. I share your grief, for I, too, have suffered personal loss. During this hour of sorrow, I wish to assure you that America has survived this terrible tribulation. There has been no surrender, no retreat from the principles of Liberty and democracy for which the free world looks to us for leadership. We remain undaunted before all but almighty God. The government functioning under certain extraordinary emergency options, we are prepared to make every effort to coordinate relief and recovery programs at the state and local levels. During the next 2 weeks, my staff and cabinet will attempt to relocate to national emergency reconstruction headquarters. At the present time, and until radiation pattern reports are made available over the emergency broadcast band, or through your local authorities, I urge you to remain in areas offering maximum shelter protection from radioactive fallout, and to obey all local curfews. We are counting on you, on your strength, your patience, your will, and your courage to help rebuild this great nation of ours. God bless you all]

The film hypothesizes a fictional war between NATO forces and the Warsaw Pact over Germany that rapidly escalates into a full scale nuclear exchange between the USA and the USSR. The story itself focuses on the residents of Lawrence, Kansas, Missouri and of several family farms near nuclear missile silos.

    Originally aired November 20,
1983 on the ABC television network. It remains the most watched TV movie in USA history. The film was broadcast on USSR state television in 1987, during the negotiations on Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.

Premiere of The Day After 1983 movie.

A special edition of the ABC news program "Viewpoint" followed the airing of The Day After 1983 movie. Featuring American astrophysicist and science communicator Carl Sagan, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Elie Wiesel, former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, General Brent Scowcroft, and the commentator William F. Buckley Jr.

Sagan argued against nuclear proliferation, but Buckley promoted the concept of nuclear deterrence. Sagan described the arms race in the following terms: "Imagine a room awash in gasoline, and there are two implacable enemies in that room. One of them has nine thousand matches, the other seven thousand matches. Each of them is concerned about who's ahead, who's stronger."

    - If you were in utero and you had any choice about the matter, would you be dying to be born into a world like this?

    - You think your baby's deciding whether or not to be born?

    - You think I'm holding back by force of will, Dr. Oakes?

    - No, I think you've got to be willing to let your baby come whether you like it or not. You're holding back hope.

    - Hope for what? What do you think is gonna happen out there? You think we're gonna sweep up the dead and fill in a couple of holes and build some supermarkets? You think all those people left alive out there are gonna say: "Oh, I'm sorry. It wasn't my fault. Let's kiss and make up"? We knew the score. We knew all about bombs, we knew all about fallout. We knew this could happen for 40 years. But nobody was interested.

"Gentlemen, the situation is appalling, Six big fires in as many weeks, and more threatened, representing a total loss to this company of $1,872,961. And 94 cents. The biggest campaign of crime ever aimed at a fire insurance company. Well, that's some kind of a record. It is obviously the work of a

    - Your fires were started by a firebug who posed as a telephone repair man. In every single case, he has shown up the day before the fire, gotten into the building, tinkered with the telephone equipment, and hooked up a chemical charge that exploded when he called the number back on Saturday or Sunday when there was no one there to answer.

    - Why didn't it explode when other calls came?

    - Oh, he blocked that by telling the operator that the phone was temporarily out of order and he hooked it up on a direct line.
    .................................................................

    - They removed a pane of glass from the skylight and substituted a piece of optical glass. They placed it at such an angle so that the sun's rays would hit it about 11:30, and you see what happened. The goods, which have been chemically treated, were ignited. A non evaporating chemical, which bursts into flames. And that, gentlemen, is how the Madison fire started. It seems that you boys talk too much.

    - Explain that remark, please.

    - Gladly. We're the only ones who knew about the telephone hook up. That bit of knowledge leaked out and warned the firebug to change his methods.

I know your name. Funny, when people change their names, they always keep the same initials. And I know your father's name and your mother's. Why do you go to all the fires? why won't you tell me? How did you happen to know where the fires were going to be? Why did you turn in that fire alarm today, two hours before the fire started? Maybe I can help you, maybe I'm trying to help you"

    - Yeah, I found that out. But you weren't really suspicious, John. I had your phone wire tapped and three Sherlocks tailing you in eight hour shifts.

    - Does a corpse that disappears seem natural to you?
    - Not to me. If he's not in the pool, the body should be around here. I've searched everywhere. The attic, the basements, the garden. There's nothing. No fresh dirt, no footsteps. Nothing!
    - He was really dead, wasn't he?
    - You should know. Because you killed him. Look, you're the one who planned the whole thing.
    - I'm sorry, we planned it and you made the phone call.
    - You bought the tablecloth to wrap him, the drug to put him to sleep. I could never have done that.

    - I don't know. It could be anyone.
    - By coincidence?
    - Yes, by coincidence.
    - And private investigator was at the morgue by coincidence. And the suit, and the hotel, and now the students. Is it a coincidence that it's getting closer each time? Each time I close my eyes it seems that I'm going to see him.

    - There are many rumors. Only few girls have managed to escape this place. But do you know how many boys? One. They say that the guy was as hard as the walls of this place. There was no punishment to made him give up. Because he liked pain. Until one day he got bored, and he went to the bedroom, grabbed his suitcase, and with everyone watching, he walked out through the main gate. And never returned. Even if they wanted to stop him, they couldn't.

    - And the girls? How did they get out?

    - They... just vanished.

"There is one floor below. Under the one below, I heard him go by. It was him. He whistled in the pipe. And when he stepped on my face he had mud on his boots. We must learn what is happening. I think them girls never escaped"

"Scoop mission control A-12. I recommend calling a Wildfire alert. We have evidence here on film of unnatural death caused by Scoop 7 returning to Earth"

    - Most of them died instantly, but a few had time to go quietly nuts.

    - Let's find the damn satellite.

    - This injury, there isn't any bleeding. Clotted blood! Powdered!

    - I'll be damned!

    - No wonder they didn't bleed. It's clotted throughout the entire system. Five quarts of blood turned to powder!

    ..........................................................

    - We don't do anything until we get that kid into a controlled situation. Too bad he can't tell us what happened.

    - Maybe he can... if he lives. The town is finished, contaminated beyond all. Order up a 7-12. The town must be neutralized immediately"

"Wildfire lab's equipped with a nuclear device for self destruct. In an emergency, it's activate. It only goes off if there's danger of infection breaking out from here. That silver key can't be removed. You're the only one who can disarm the mechanism by inserting your red key. In one of the substations located throughout the facility. Now, there's a five minute delay between the time detonation locks in and the bomb explodes. It's of vital importance, that you always know where you are in relation to the nearest substation. We're on level 1 of a 5 story cylindrical underground structure surrounded by solid rock. Each level has three substations. In the event the nuclear device is triggered, you can still cancel self destruct by inserting your red key in a substation. At the bottom of the central core is the apparatus for self destruct. Each level is bio medically cleaner than the one above it. We don't want anything to contaminate a possible organism. That would make it twice as hard to isolate and characterize. It'll take us 16 hours to descend through the programmed decontamination procedures on the first four levels, to level 5 where the main labs are"

    - Good God! It's growing.

    - No amino acids! No proteins, no enzymes, no nucleic acid. Impossible! No organism can maintain life without them!

    - We're secure at Wildfire. We have everything we need to achieve a breakthrough. All we have to do is attack this problem like any other in science. We're halfway home if we find out what will keep that from growing.

    - Let me get back to my patients. I'm sure they were protected by the same thing, some simple mechanism, I just don't recognize yet. There's gotta be something that the old man and the baby have in common.

    ..........................................................

    - The growth program shows it can live on anything. The poorest growth occurs in pure oxygen, It grows best in carbon dioxide and hydrogen, No excretions. No waste of any kind. It consumes everything, wastes nothing. It functions like an atomic reactor.···Dividing and mutating at the same time? And nothing to stop it. Normal earth checks and balances don't exist for it. We'd better get a bio math mapping of its new growth potential and spread.

    - These are biological warfare maps.

    - Yes, so they are, but simulations, Defensive. It's just a scenario.

    - That's not the point, for God's sake. They already had It programmed. The purpose of Scoop was to find new biological weapons in outer space, and then use Wildfire to develop them. You knew it!

    - That's not true, I learned about Scoop the same time you did. You're blowing your tops. We have no proof. That map only shows what It could do in the hands of an enemy.

    - Enemy? We did it to ourselves. Another giant leap for mankind. I wish I could believe you.

    - Whether you do or not, the only important thing now is to find the antidote.

While the monkey was filmed suffocating on CO2, assistant director was standing just off camera wearing scuba gear and holding a second oxygen source. The monkey was revived just seconds after going unconscious. Watching the scene closely, the viewer can clearly see a shadow moving towards the monkey just as it goes limp.

    - Fantastic, eh? Three handicapped guys with a rock band without a drummer, looking for fame. And success.

    - You are a famous author. They want your success.

    - That's obvious, isn't it? We'll use them. There's a story in this.

    - Why'd you want to play with that fucking band?

    - I don't really know. I think I want to step outside my happy world. Descend into the depths of stupidity, ugliness, obtuseness, unfaithfulness and fake. Latch onto the life of losers, but without belonging to that world and in the knowledge that I can always return to my own world.

    - What was the purpose of the experiments?

    - To stimulate the pineal gland with resonant vibrations. Dr. Pretorious believed the pineal was a dormant sensory organ. A sixth sense.

    - Yes. Well, that's not a new theory. The philosopher Descartes believed it was the third eye.

    - It's not a theory. It's a fact.

    - Then your experiments worked. They proved the theory. Then what went wrong?

    - Nothing, at first. But then we saw them. We saw creatures, these things that were swimming around in the air and fill it all the time. Only we can't see them without the resonator and they can't see us, unless they're under the influence of the vibrations. That's why I had to destroy it. The resonator. Dr. Pretorious's invention. Because it came. It ate him. Bit off his head.

    WuJKnKC.jpg

    - I don't think that's a tumour. I think the pineal gland is growing.

    - That's impossible.

    - I know but the CAT scan bears it out. The pineal stalk is elongating through the brain. Well, it could mean that the experiment they were performing actually does stimulate the pineal.

    - You mean he's not crazy?

    - Expansion of the pineal. I'll have to do a study of the CAT scans of schizophrenics. If there's a statistical correlation between schizophrenia and an enlarged pineal, they may be seeing or feeling what we saw. Their minds may be influenced by those creatures. Well, we just have to try the experiment again. That resonator is a work of genius. This could be the first step in curing schizophrenia. This is the greatest discovery since Van Leeuwenhoek first looked through a microscope and saw an amoeba.

    - Yeah, but he wasn't down there with the amoebas.

    - I saw you die.

    - No. Not die. Just pass beyond. A necessary rite of passage. Quite wonderful, in fact. Do you realize now what I was creating?

    - My God, what have you become?

    - Myself.

    - Whatever you are, you're still human.

    - More than human. Join me, for ever. Everyone must join me.

    Death by Hanging 1968*

    - Hasn't his heart stopped yet? Is something wrong with the noose? What's going on?

    - The heart usually stops in 12 minutes, It's been 21. R** still has a pulse. When it stops, he's legally dead. His pulse isn't weakening. Sir, allow us to execute him again.

    - But he hasn't been executed yet. I don't have the statute here, but I'm pretty sure Article 479 of the Criminal Code says that if he's mentally incapacitated, by order of the justice minister, the execution must be halted. In that case if we try to execute him again, we'd be breaking the law.

    ycaQ98h.jpg

    - R was unusually calm, wasn't he? What if he says he doesn't want to die? His body's already clearly refused! And if his soul refuses, will you halt the execution?

    - Of course not! His soul accepted its fate. He let himself be blindfolded!

    - That was before. But this is not the same R. It won't be the R who committed the crimes and admitted his guilt. We have to make him remember who he is. Doctor, what's the medical term for this condition? How long until he recovers?

    - Mental incapacitation. I don't know. This isn't a typical case of emotional trauma. I've never read any case studies of amnesia after a botched execution. If words won't work, make his body remember, tapping into his body memory may be the answer.

    - What on earth is happening? Are we dreaming?

    - Perhaps.

    - Different people can't dream the same thing.

    - But we were imagining the same thing.

    - If you imagine something, does it appear in reality?

    - Yes, if you imagine it as though it were real.

"Why do I superimpose my dear sister on my victims? When I imagined the death of someone I loved, the true meaning of death hit me for the first time. I killed two human beings. The world in my heart was no longer limited just to my imagination. I guess it became a world other people could enter. My victims, whom I could only imagine as if veiled in a dream, now sometimes appear vividly before me. I can practically feel them. After falling in love with my sister, I began to imagine not only the people I killed, but also my own actions, and my very self, more vividly"

Film follows R, a fictional character based off of Ri Chin’u, an ethnic Korean who murdered and raped two Japanese school girls in 1958, and later gained much attention in, a collection of writings on his crimes. His writing became known for his sophisticated prose and philosophical musings which denied criminality for his sex murders, insisting that he had acted on them in a realm where he could not distinguish between reality and fantasy.
Captured by the absurdity of Ri Chin’u's writings. Film directer creates a fictional character R, who expresses similar sentiments. and uses to explore the complex issues surrounding capital punishment and persecution of ethnic Koreans in Japan. R survives hanging but loses his memory. The officials who witness the hanging debate how to proceed. They decide that they must persuade R to accept guilt by reminding him of his crimes, at this point the film moves into a funny and shocking Brechtian bender.
