    Hi Machanla,

Need to know your experience of changing the cataract and putting a lense to eyes. my grandfather is old and he needs this to be done to one eye (left).

    1. How much would it cost?
    2. Who is a good doctor?
    3. should we stay in hospital? if so how long?

Appreciate any guidance and hope this thread will be helpful to others

    Please BUMP

I think they're doing it for free(surgery+lenses) at sri lanka eye donation head quarters. Not exactly sure.
If going for private lens may cost 30000 up.

My dad had the surgery like 2 months ago. Lens costs Rs.22000 as I remember
Stayed in the hospital for 2 days. Came home on the 3rd day.
Go to the eye clinic of a hospital. They will give you a date to admit the patient.
It's done for free in government hospitals. You only need to provide the lens.

I got mine done by Dr. Rajesh Fogla (an indian eye surgeon) at Lanka Hospitals Pvt Ltd.
Cost about 80,000 (but they had surgery packages from 30000 onward) // this may have changed now
well, it was a minor surgery. Took about 30-45 mins. No injections, he just put some eye drops to numb the pain and did it.

There is no queue. My dad went to the General hospital of Gampaha. There weren't many patients in his ward. Even some beds were free. Just go to the eye clinic. It can be done within like 2 weeks or so.

There is no such que your grandfather may have to stay overnight there till next day.I can't remember mchn whether it's completly free or not,but far more inexpensive than private ones.I think you have the option to select the lenses better to check with them.

My mother had the surgery at Karapitiya teaching hospital.
we bought the lens from Vision care for 25 000
the surgery takes just half an hour
in government hospitals you'll have to stay one night. that means surgery will be done the day after admitting. And you will be discharged few hours after the surgery
In private hospitals, everything will be done and over in one day

Overall its a very small operation

First consult the eye specialist. Best thing is to go private channeling first. After that he will give a date for the hospital eye clinic.
Usually the doctor gives recommendation for the lens as well as the place to buy it. The lens comes with all other necessary accessories needed for the surgery.

Although the surgery is very small, it's really really important to keep the eye safe for like 3 months. The lens comes with an eye patch as well which the patient can use after the surgery
