Corinthians 1-0 Chelsea: Guerrero header gives Brazilians Club World Cup glory

    paologuerrerogoalvchelsea_576x324.jpg

Corinthians have become only the second team ever to win the Club World Cup twice after defeating Chelsea 1-0 in the final in Yokohama.

In an even first half, which saw both sides have spells of dominance, the Blues had the better of the chances with Cassio brilliantly denying both Gary Cahill and Victor Moses from opening the scoring.

There was a similar feel to the second 45, with both teams mostly cancelling each other out, however, Paolo Guerrero nodded home with 20 minutes left to secure the victory for his side, although Cassio did have to come to Corinthians' rescue again late on - with Cahill seeing red and Fernando Torres having a goal disallowed in injury time.

The Brazilian outfit made two changes from their semi-final win, Cassio replacing Julio Cesar in goal and Jorge Enrique coming in for Douglas. Rafael Benitez also switched things around from Chelsea's win over Monterrey, Frank Lampard and Moses starting as David Luiz dropped back to centre-back.

The Premier League side went close to taking the lead, and to testing the goal-line technology, with just 10 minutes played. Juan Mata's corner fell to Cahill who poked the ball towards goal from yards out, however, Cassio reacted quickly to smother the effort before it crossed the line.

Chelsea began to look more in control, but, with Corinthians placing men behind the ball to soak up the pressure, Benitez's men struggled to create chances.

Guerrero then started to cause the Blues problems as Tite's side took a foothold in the game. He nutmegged Cahill with ease to skip into the box, however, fell to the ground under little, if any, contact.

The attacker then found team-mate Emerson with a decent through-ball that put him in on goal, though Cahill should have stopped the pass, but the Brazilian lashed the shot horribly high and wide.

Moments after, a delightful diagonal ball from Hazard nearly sent Moses in on goal. Corinthians replied through Guerrero who then ghosted past Cahill and Luiz into the box once more, using skill and strength, but saw his strike flash across the face of goal. Emerson picked up the ball for a second chance but shot wide from the tight angle.

The west Londoners then came back into the clash with two openings before the break. Firstly, Torres' deft touch after Lampard's pass created a good chance, but the finish was weak. Then, Moses cut in from the right-hand-side of the penalty box to curl a strike towards the far corner, but Cassio did fantastically to tip it wide at full stretch.

The Corinthians keeper's fantastic display continued in the second 45 as he rushed out quickly to block Hazard's effort in a one-on-one after 10 minutes - that chance the only real opportunity until Paulinho fired just wide after the hour mark.

With extra time looming, Corinthians finally netted the breakthrough with just over 20 minutes remaining. Paulinho was allowed to run with the ball through the penalty box, before shifting it to Danilo who cut inside to shoot. The effort then deflected off Cahill into the air, leaving Petr Cech stranded on the floor and Guerrero with the simple task of heading past the three Blues defenders on the line.

Torres should have sent the game into extra time, though, with five minutes left on the clock. The ball fell to the Spain striker after a wicked deflection leaving the forward with plenty of time to pick his spot from yards out, but Cassio produced a fabulous stop to make sure his side secured the trophy.

There was yet more late drama as Blues' defender Cahill was red carded for a coming together with Emerson in the 90th minute, before Torres had a headed goal correctly disallowed for offside and Mata hit the post with the game in injury time.

Villas-Boas praises Tottenham's concentration after win over Swansea

    239891hp2.jpg

LONDON -- Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas was relieved his side managed to avoid their habit of conceding late goals as they reclaimed a place in the Premier League top four with a 1-0 win over Swansea on Sunday.

Spurs have conceded 10 goals in the final 15 minutes of league games this season - including two in the defeat at Everton last weekend - but held on at White Hart Lane to take all three points thanks to Jan Vertonghen’s 75th-minute strike.

Villas-Boas admitted the players have been working on their concentration in training during the week and is now targeting a push towards the top two ahead of the busy festive fixture period.

“Yeah, I was a bit nervous [at the end],” said Villas-Boas. “Football is unpredictable but today the players showed the desire and ambition to put right the wrongs.

“We addressed it in training as a group, concentrating in the last part of training. It’s difficult because you can’t recreate the stressful environment of a game. We had a go, we made the exercises more complex and made the players think with the tasks that they have to do."

Villas-Boas also reserved praise for goalscorer Vertonghen after he scored his first official league goal following his summer arrival from Ajax.

“It was a beautiful finish,” added the Spurs manager. “We knew Swansea concede a lot of their goals from set plays. It was important for us, he has proved he has the ability to score goals.

“Today we reverted him to central defense. He’s extremely comfortable on the ball, he can play left back or in the middle. He was captain of Ajax, he’s won titles, he’s a strong character."

AC Milan 4-1 Pescara: Rampant Rossoneri rack up fourth Serie A win on the spin

    239878hp2.jpg

AC Milan confidently strolled to a 4-1 victory over Pescara at San Siro on Sunday afternoon, with the generous visitor proving its own worst enemy.

The home side scored with the first chance of the game, after Antonio Nocerino was given a chance that he could not miss only a minute into the game. The Rossoneri kept up their pressure throughout the first half but could not make their dominance count as most of the efforts were from long range.

Milan doubled the lead after Robinho’s corner was clumsily headed in by Elvis Abbruscato. Christian Terlizzi pulled a goal back for the away side with a superb header on 56 minutes and Antonio Balzano nearly scored an equalizer a few minutes later. However, Milan finished the game with two late strikes: an own goal from Jonathas and another tap-in, this time from El Shaarawy.

Milan made it clear that the team was confident and ambitious in the opening stages. El Shaarawy was unmarked as he made a clever run into the Pescara box and once he picked up the ball he had plenty of promising options, but chose to pass to Nocerino who applied a simple finish to make it 1-0.

The home team maintained the pressure in the opening stages and after El Shaarawy swung a cross into the box for Pazzini, Dolphins defender Balzano nearly headed the ball into his goal, but Perin stayed on his toes to save.

Robinho thought his side had scored a second when his free kick found Giampaolo Pazzini. The striker smashed the ball into the Pescara net with his first touch, but the referee saw an infringement and made the team retake the free kick.

The visitors kept fighting but it was not enough to stop Milan from creating more chances. The Rossoneri created a number of half-chances as the game progressed but could not add to the lead before halftime.

Pescara made a lively start to the second half despite taking off Vladimir Weiss who was the main threat. Francesco Modesto’s delivery from wide met the head of Birkir Bjarnason but he could not get enough power on his shot to worry Marco Amelia.

The away side then shot itself in the foot as Abruscatto headed in an own goal after a Robinho corner. The Pescara striker was clearly trying to put it back out for another corner but his header was wild and gave Perin little chance to save it.

The Dolphins gave themselves a route back into the game after Montolivo let Terlizzi have too much space when defending a set piece and the defender headed in to make it 2-1.

All of a sudden things looked a lot brighter for Pescara as Balzano’s 25-yard drive smashed into the post to deny the club an equalizer on 59 minutes.

However Milan did not let up and even though both teams were creating the occasional change, it was clear that the Rossoneri were the better side. Jonathas scored the second own goal of the match to make it harder for Pescara to get anything from the game and El Shaarawy rounded off the scoring making it 4-1 on 81 minutes.

Juventus 3-0 Atalanta: Bianconeri blitz Atalanta

    239849hp2.jpg

Juventus cruised to victory over a timid Atalanta side on Sunday, running out a 3-0 winner over the mid-table visitor.

Goals from Marko Vucinic, Andrea Pirlo and Claudio Marchisio in the opening half hour of the match set Antonio Conte's men on their way to a routine victory, as well as extending their run of clean sheets to five games.

With Inter having fallen to a narrow defeat away to Lazio earlier in the round, the Bianconeri had the chance to open up a seven point gap with the Nerazzurri. Atalanta meanwhile remained rooted in mid-table, regardless of results elsewhere.

The home side made a barnstorming start to the game, and took just two minutes to open the scoring. Vucinic handed Antonio Conte's side an early lead, after the Montenegrin had been played in by a crisp through ball from Giovinco. The striker then composedly took a touch to carve out a pocket of space, before curling past a helpless Andrea Consigli.

Atalanta very nearly leveled matters just moments later, only for German Denis to be brilliantly denied by Gianluigi Buffon. The Argentinian was allowed to run through on goal after Andrea Barzagli had failed to deal with a slicing pass, but was unable to show the finishing instinct which had seen his opposite number open the scoring minutes earlier.

The visiting side continued to pry for an opening around the Juventus area, but saw its deliveries parried by a resilient Juventus back line. Maxi Moralez was next to test Buffon, but his effort from range failed to trouble the Bianconeri skipper.

A moment of class from Pirlo then doubled the scoring in favor of the home side, after Arturo Vidal did well to draw a foul just outside the area. The Italy international lined up to take the resultant free kick, and fired home with a sumptuous curling effort into the top corner.

Vucinic spurned two clear chances to add to his goal tally shortly after. A scramble on the edge of the box allowed the forward to get a wayward shot away, before the Montenegrin's effort at the end of some delightful link-up play over the left flank and into the area was deflected to safety.

Juventus was not to be denied a third however, and Marchisio was on hand to further extend his side's lead just before the half-hour mark. The Italian midfielder was given far too much time to compose himself outside the area, and responded by rifling past a despairing Consigli.

Atalanta was then given another blow minutes later, with Thomas Manfredini sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the game. The Italian was unfortunate to see his final foul warrant a dismissal, but the referee saw enough in it to send the defender for an early shower.

Juventus came out of the break in full control of proceedings, with Pirlo dictating play. The midfielder very nearly saw his compatriot Giovinco snatch a fourth for the Bianconeri, but the forward's palm-stinging effort failed to find its way into the net.

The diminutive striker did put the ball in the net just before the hour mark, but saw his effort ruled offside. Ezequiel Schelotto then had a half-chance to bag a goal for Atalanta at the other end, but blasted well wide from the edge of the area.

The linesman was again Juventus' foil shortly after, with Fabio Quagliarella's effort off a rebound ruled out. The striker had strayed marginally offside as Pirlo tested Consiglio with a rifling effort, and the home side was thus made to wait for a fourth goal.

Giovinco then came close to extending his side's lead after working his way through the Atalanta defense, but the Italian's low effort was well wide and failed to threaten the visitors' goal. The Italian forward spurned two further chances to get on the score sheet shortly after, with Consigli parrying the 25-year old on both occasions.

The win sees Juventus provisionally seven points clear atop the Serie A table, but a win for Napoli later in the round would see the advantage cut to five.

Vucinic says early goal vital in Juventus victory over Atalanta

    239870hp2.jpg

Mirko Vucinic believes his strike after two minutes against Atalanta was influential in securing all three points for Juventus in the club's 3-0 win on Sunday.

The Montenegrin scored the opening goal in a first-half demolition of Atalanta in which The Old Lady scored three times, to help keep the side at the top of Serie A, four points clear of Inter.

“We started strongly and that was the most important thing to do. We scored immediately, the second arrived shortly afterwards and we handled the game well from there on in," Vucinic told the club's official website.

Andrea Pirlo scored the second goal after 14 minutes before Claudio Marchisio hit a third on 27 minutes, but Vucinic was not concerned that his side could not extend its lead in the second half.

“The tempo dropped in the second half, but it’s a good sign that the strikers kept going right until the end in search of a goal," he said.

"Now we’ll think ahead to Friday’s game against Cagliari. We’re after another win in order to celebrate Christmas in the best possible way.”

Hoffenheim 1-3 Borussia Dortmund: Champion returns to winning ways

    239886hp2.jpg

Borussia Dortmund eased to a 3-1 victory over Hoffenheim at the Rhein Neckar Arena in the club's final Bundesliga game of 2012.

The German champion took the lead through Mario Gotze, and although the club was soon pegged back by Sven Schipplock, Kevin Grosskreutz and Robert Lewandowski found the net in the second half to ensure victory.

The match started fairly slowly, but out of the two sides, it was BVB which started slightly stronger, with the ball almost falling to Moritz Leitner after a tussle in the box, but Koen Casteels got down well to save.

Soon after, Gotze skipped inside from the left wing, dodging a string of tackles, but his eventual shot was blocked well by the stand-in keeper.

Just before the 20-minute mark, Hoffenheim was presented with an excellent opportunity to break the deadlock. A set piece was swung in from the left wing, and Marvin Compper beat Roman Weidenfeller to the ball, only to head over from a matter of yards.

Soon enough though, BVB showed its class show, with Gotze once again dribbling inside from the left wing, and letting fly with an excellent shot which flew past Casteels and into the top-right corner of the net.

Seconds later, Dortmund had an excellent opportunity to effectively kill the game off, with Marco Reus dribbling inside the box and prodding the ball to Lewandowski, who tried to nudge it home, but Casteels got out well to make a close-range block.

The match had opened up at long last, and Hoffenheim had chances of its own to grab a quick-fire equalizer. Kevin Volland skipped down the left, and crossed towards Sven Schipplock, but the ball narrowly evaded the striker and took a disastrous touch off Kuba Blaszczykowski, who recovered in time to clear before it cost him.

Eventually, though, the equalizer came. A high ball came into the box which Weidenfeller came to claim, but a deft Volland touch presented Schipplock with a tap-in.

On the stroke of halftime, Leitner sent his shot goalwards, but once again Casteels was there to make the save.

The young goalkeeper started the second half in much the same form, making fantastic saves to deny Reus from close range after a lovely Hummels through ball, and then from the defender himself, who had taken a fantastic shot from 20 yards.

Eventually, though, his resistance was broken. Leitner threaded a lovely ball through the defense to Reus. He selflessly gave it to Grosskreutz, who finally netted his first goal of the season from a matter of feet.

The onus was on BVB to take control of the clash and wrap up the win at this point, but Lewanowski missed a fantastic opportunity to make it 3-1, heading Reus' free kick wide.

Lewandowski did made the most of one of his opportunities, taking a through ball into his path, rounding the keeper and flicking into the top corner from a narrow angle.

The champion was still affording its opponent too much space in its own half however, and the home side soon had a great chance to halve the deficit, with Tobias Weis heading wide from a matter of yards after a fortuitous deflection.

Hummels almost grabbed a fourth with a header after a Reus corner with a little over 10 minutes to go, but it was of little consequence. BVB had done more than enough, and now climbs to third, while Hoffenheim remains in the bottom three, seven points adrift of Wolfsburg.

Benitez: I'm not worried by Chelsea fans after Club World Cup defeat

    239838hp2.jpg

Rafa Benitez admits he is not worried about the potential reception he will face from Chelsea fans following his side's Club World Cup final defeat by Corinthians on Sunday.

Jose Paolo Guerrero's second-half strike secured victory for the Brazilian side in Japan as Gary Cahill capped a miserable end to the tournament for Chelsea after he was sent off late on.

Benitez has faced a hostile welcome to his reign at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea fans displaying their objection to the Spaniard's appointment during several Premier League games.

"I don't think I am worried about what the reception of supporters will be back in England, we played a very good game against Monterrey and today we did well too," Benitez told reporters. "It is still early, we need to improve day after day, and week after week, and win games."

Benitez admits his side paid the price for failing to finish chances against Corinthians but was buoyed by the number of opportunities Chelsea created.

"We knew it would have been a tough game. They are a good team, they created one chance, and scored. We did not take our chances, and that in the end made the difference," he said.

"They were physically strong, well organised, experience. They were wasting time, surrounding the ref, managing the game well. I don't say that as a negative thing, I mean they were experienced, but we still could have won."

Lampard bemoans poor finishing as Chelsea crashes to Corinthians defeat in Club World Cup final

    239776hp2.jpg

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard lamented his side's poor finishing as the English club fell to a 1-0 defeat in the Club World Cup final against Corinthians.

Paolo Guerrero's header in the second half was enough to seal a second Club World Cup title for the Brazilian outfit, even though Chelsea threatened with a number of late efforts on goal.

Lampard said that the players will leave Japan with a 'bad feeling' because of the amount of chances they wasted after going behind.

"It was always going to be a tough game, they're a very good team," he told BBC Sport.

"We've come away with that bad feeling that we had enough chances to at least draw the game."

"They're very organized, Brazilian teams in club football can be like that, they're very organized and they counterattack. We knew what they were going to bring and we knew it was going to be a tough game. We're just disappointed to get all the way here and not win it."

Chelsea's attention is now solely focused on domestic matters and Lampard insists the club must kick on despite this latest setback.

He continued: "We have to go and win a run of games in the league, keep ourselves in the hunt in the league, we've got the Europa League, the FA Cup, the Capital One Cup all coming up so we really have to keep pushing on everything."

The England midfielder also thanked the traveling Chelsea fans for making the trip to Japan to support Benitez's men.

"Absolutely fantastic - I said it after the first game, the way they supported the team," he said. "They were all in Munich to celebrate the best night in Chelsea's history. They follow us everywhere, they're the best fans."

Tottenham 1-0 Swansea City: Late Vertonghen strike breaks Swans' resistance

    239832hp2.jpg

Jan Vertonghen was Tottenham’s superman as he fired a superb winner 15 minutes from time to take his side into the Champions League places with 1-0 victory over Swansea on Sunday.

The Belgian center back celebrated his strike by pretending to rip open his shirt Superman-style after saving a Spurs team that had until that moment lacked attacking verve in an unremarkable game at White Hart Lane.

Yet Tottenham got the job done against in-form Swansea, Vertonghen sweeping in a half-volley with his weaker right foot from Kyle Walker's free kick as Spurs climbed into fourth place ahead of the busy Christmas period.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas will be equally relieved that his players were able to keep a clean sheet and avoid their habit of conceding in the last 10 minutes of matches against a Swansea side that offered little in the final third.

Tottenham made one change to the starting XI that lost the club's previous outing at Everton, bringing in Kyle Naughton for Steven Caulker as Gareth Bale failed to recover in time from a hamstring injury, while Swansea made two changes to the team that was beaten by Norwich as Leon Britton returned to the heart of Michael Laudrup’s midfield.

The pre-match talk was of an open game between two attacking teams, but neither side played with any purpose during a drab opening period in which the home side created the better chances but barely tested Swansea goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel.

In the 12th minute, Michu brilliantly blocked Jermain Defoe’s goal-bound effort before Swansea defender Chico Flores denied Emmanuel Adebayor in similar fashion.

At the other end, Michu went closest for the visitors with a stunning effort from just inside the Spurs half that had Hugo Lloris scrambling before the ball drifted just over the crossbar.

Swansea came out for the second half with more purpose and should have broken the deadlock two minutes after the re-start. Wayne Routledge skipped into the Tottenham penalty area and crossed for Nathan Dyer, who should have scored from five yards but took his eye off the ball and headed wide.

Adebayor forced Tremmel into action and Walker shot off target before Spurs opened the scoring in the 75th minute just when the game appeared to be meandering towards a goalless draw.

For all the pretty passing on display, it was a rudimentary set piece that did the job. Walker whipped in a free kick that glanced off a Swansea player’s head before landing at Vertonghen, who swept home with his weaker right foot.

Spurs have shown a worrying habit of conceding goals in the final stages of games this season, but this time they held on. Defoe could have doubled the scoreline late on after being put through by substitute Gylfi Sigurdsson, but the striker was denied by Tremmel.

There was late drama as Lloris took out Michu as the Spurs goalkeeper won the ball with a powerful punch, a number of players getting involved in a melee, but the Spaniard was able to continue before referee Mike Dean blew the final whistle.

Rodgers: Liverpool was complacent in Aston Villa loss

Brendan Rodgers has claimed that complacency was to blame for Liverpool's 3-1 Premier League defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, but also believes that his side needs to be strengthened in January's transfer window if it is to finish in the Champions League places.

Earlier in the week, Rodgers suggested his team has the potential to finish well up the table, but speaking after Saturday's loss, the Liverpool boss took a slightly more down to earth approach.

"That was probably as disappointing as we've been here but I couldn't put my finger on it," he told reporters. "It is a strange thing football. We were talked up all week about us being top-four material but we know within the group we still have a long way to go. There is going to be steady progress and there are going to be steps forward, like in the last few weeks, and a step backward like yesterday.

"We looked at the first six months to assess. We know we need some support and hopefully we can get that in. We understand the process as well but the most important thing is to learn from it (the defeat)."

Liverpool was the dominant side in the opening half an hour of the game, but was the victim of some effective counterattacking as the club fell three goals behind before the hour mark, with Steven Gerrard grabbing a consolation goal minutes from time.

Rodgers hinted that his side may have been a bit too easy-going during the defeat, but should not dwell and instead look on to next week's fixture against Fulham.
"The thing we've learned from yesterday is that you can't ever be complacent," he said. "You have to be at full tilt every week. If we do that we have a great chance
of getting the points but if we don't you can get punished.

"The challenge for us now is to have a good week's training and come back next Saturday and hopefully get three points and get on the upward curve again."

Former Arsenal boss Graham: Main man Wenger must bring in better players, says

    238445hp2.jpg

Former Arsenal manager George Graham has stated that Arsene Wenger is the man to keep the club in the top four of the Premier League - but says he must find more talented players to compete for top honors.

The north London side is struggling in eighth place in the league, and while a win against Reading on Monday could send the club fourth, the team would still be 15 points behind league leader Manchester United.

Despite the criticism of the squad assembled for the 2012-13 season following the departure of captain Robin van Persie, Graham believes Wenger has the ability to attract good players to the club once again.

"There is a lot of hysterical criticism about Wenger now. If you want to stay in the top four, he is the man without question," he told BBC Radio Five Live Sportsweek. "Let's give Arsene the credit. He brought in players for average prices - Thierry Henry, Nicolas Anelka, Marc Overmars, Patrick Vieira, Emmanuel Petit. They were all very good players unknown to the fans in England that he turned into fantastic world-class players. That was his strength.

"He did it on a tight budget so it's not like they are now going to go out and break the transfer record. They have never done it during Arsene's reign so in my opinion he has got to get his magic hat on again and go out and see if he can get players of that quality at good prices."

Graham led Arsenal to league titles in 1989 and 1991, but Wenger is without a trophy in seven years, with the recent Capital One Cup exit to Bradford a particular low for the club in an entirely winnable competition.

However, Graham believes it is up to Wenger as to when he will leave the club, but he has called on the manager to look for better players to give the side a fighting chance of competing for trophies.

"Arsene's first period at the club, for seven years, was probably the most attractive and attacking football I've ever seen in English football," he said. "He won three league titles and four FA Cups. He set the standard and unfortunately in the last few seasons the standard is just slowly slipping away.

"I think Wenger will stay there. He will make the decision if he leaves or not. I cannot see him leaving at all. I think Arsene will still be there for a few years yet. I just hope they bring in a better quality of player."

Al Ahly 0-2 Monterrey: The Mexican side finishes third at the Club World Cup

    239747hp2.jpg

CONCACAF representatives Monterrey emerged victorious in the third place playoff of the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup after beating African champion Al Ahly by a 3-1 score at Toyota Stadium.

Al Ahly gifted the opening goal for Jesus Corona after a misunderstanding at the back. Cesare Delgado scored his third goal of the tournament in the second half from a counterattack while goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco denied the Egyptians on several occasions to see off the challenge of the African champion.

The game immediately started on a high after kickoff. Mexico international Aldo De Nigris was put through on goal by Jesus Corona in the second minute only for the linesman to raise his flag. However the club didn’t have to wait too long for the opener. Severo Meza and Neri Cardozo played between them before the latter sent a ball over the Al Ahly defence for Corona. Goalkeeper Mahmoud El Saoud and defender Sayed Moawad clattered in their attempt and neither got the ball away which was easily slotted home by Corona.

Thereafter Al Ahly saw more of the ball and created a couple of half chances through Waleed Soliman. The club's best chance came at the half hour mark when Waleed Soliman’s curling free kick found Emad Motean who saw his header come off the post.Mohamed Aboutrika came close to leveling things up right before halftime but his diving header went just wide of the left post.

In the second half the African champion tried to come out from its shell early on with some decent attempts, but it was the brilliance of the Monterrey custodian Orozco that saw the scoreline remain the same.Just four minutes after coming on as a substitute, Syed Al-Hamdy came close as he tested goalkeeper Orozco who made a fine save to deny the Al Ahly striker.

Monterrey was tested again as Abdalla El Said saw his shot parried away by Orozco which went straight to Al-Hamdy who failed to find the back of the net on the rebound in the 64th minute.

Two minutes later, Al Ahly was made to pay as De Nigris found Cardozo with a lovely through ball. He in turn set it up for Delgado whose calm finish helped Monterrey double the lead.

The Mexican side could have gone 3-0 up in the 77th minute. De Nigris releases Delgado who squared the ball for Cardozo whose shot was blocked. The ball went as far as Delgado whose cross should have been converted at the far post as the Al Ahly defense went to sleep.

Orozco continued his fine form between the sticks as he denied Aboutrika and Rami Hisham late on. Monterrey held on to its lead and finished third at the Club World Cup.
