Atletico yet to receive Falcao offers

    falcaoceleb_576x324.jpg

Atletico Madrid chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin has denied that Monaco or Chelsea have made official bids for Radamel Falcao.

Falcao is expected to leave Atletico this summer, with many of Europe’s leading clubs reportedly considering paying his €60 million release clause.
Ambitious newly promoted Ligue 1 side Monaco have emerged as surprise suitors in recent weeks, while Europa League winners Chelsea have long been thought fans of the Colombian striker.

The Colchoneros executive told Goal Singapore that he had not heard from either club yet, while repeating a recent claim that he would not stand in the player’s way should he decide to leave.“Atletico have officially not received any offers for Falcao, be it from Monaco or Chelsea,” Gil Marin said. “There are many clubs that are interested in him and the club will allow the player to talk to anyone and we will respect any decision that he takes. In the end, he is free to make his choice."

Atletico are on a mini-trip to Singapore, where they beat a local XI 2-0 in an exhibition game on Wednesday. Also in town were Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes, former Chelsea and Manchester United executive and current third-party investor Peter Kenyon and Indonesian billionaire Peter Lim, who is reportedly considering investing in the Estadio Vicente Calderon club.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone, who coached Falcao as a teenager at Argentine club River Plate, told AS after Wednesday’s game that he still hoped they would be working together next season.“In official terms, I do not know anything,” Simeone said. “I wish him the best. I have known him since he was a kid and if he feels he needs to make a step to improve, then I would be happy for him. If he stays with us, I would be even happier.”

Besides Falcao, other players including Arda Turan and Diego Costa have been linked with big-money moves away from the Calderon in the summer, as heavily indebted Atletico look to wheel and deal ahead of next season’s Champions League campaign.Bustling Brazilian centre-forward Costa, reportedly of interest to Premier League side Arsenal, told Marca that he was sure offers would arrive but he hoped the present Atletico side would stick together.

“When a team has a great season and wins trophies, all its players are valued,” he said. “We have a great squad and we know that offers will come in, but to keep this group is very important to keep improving. We know each other well and know what things the boss wants. Offers will arrive and some people may leave, but we should stick together to achieve our objectives.”

Manchester City have ruled out moves for Radamel Falcao and Neymar

    Soriano_2814024.jpg

Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano has denied the club are chasing the signatures of Radamel Falcao and Neymar.Reports have suggested City are among the chasing pack lining up moves for Atletico Madrid hit-man Falcao and Brazil sensation Neymar.

Falcao has been linked with a host of clubs, including Chelsea, Monaco and Real Madrid following his goalscoring exploits for Atletico over the last couple of seasons.

Santos attacker Neymar is also being chased by Europe's top clubs with the skilful playmaker expected to leave South America for Europe after the 2014 World Cup.However, Soriano insists the pair are not on City's transfer radar as they begin plans for their summer transfer plans.

"Neymar and Falcao? [These reports are] false, they have never been on our agenda," Soriano is quoted as saying on Tuttomercatoweb.com.Soriano also moved to play down talk that Sergio Aguero could leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.Reports have suggested Aguero could be keen on a return with Spain with Real Madrid long-term admirers of the Argentine international.Soriano insists City have no plans to sell Aguero and that the 24-year-old is happy to stay at the club.

"The first thing I want to emphasise is that we have never thought of selling Aguero. El Kun will be happy to stay with us this year," Soriano added.

Mario Gotze to miss Champions League final

    282294_heroa.jpg

The 20-year-old has been struggling with a thigh injury and has been ruled out of Saturday's clash with Bayern Munich at Wembley.Borussia Dortmund has confirmed that Mario Gotze will miss Saturday's Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

The 20-year-old sustained a thigh injury during the 2-0 semifinal second-leg defeat to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, but had been hopeful of recovering in time to feature at Wembley.

He returned to training on Tuesday but was seen grimacing and underwent scans on Wednesday to determine whether he would be fit to play on Saturday.

However, he has now been ruled out of the clash against the Bavarians and apologized to fans.

"The final was my big goal and I fought hard for this in the past weeks," he was quoted as saying on the club's official website. "I'm incredibly sorry that I can't help the team in this crucial game. I trust our team totally and will of course be heading to London to support the lads off the field."

The Champions League final would have been Gotze's final game for Borussia Dortmund as he has already agreed a summer move to Bayern Munich.

Agent says Benteke is 'disgusted' by exit rumors

    276137_heroa.jpg

The 22-year-old Belgian star has been linked with a move away but Eris Kismet denies that he will force a move, though admitting that European football may be hard to ignore Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke is "disgusted" by reports suggesting that he will force a move away from the club, according to the player's agent, who contradicts himself by claiming that the striker would not be able to ignore the lure of Champions League football.

Benteke was quoted in a Belgian newspaper as indicating that he would fight Villa if the club attempted to block a move but both he and his representative insist that he was misquoted, with some media reporting that he was targeting Arsenal specifically.

Eris Kismet, who represents the striker, quashed speculation that his client was searching for a move away but admitted that he "might be interested" in the opportunity to play European football next season.

"Christian and I are surprised and disgusted by a story in The Sun newspaper claiming Benteke can do what he wants," he told Sky Sports. "He has been misquoted. He has called me today from New York and he is disgusted, I have told him not to speak to any media from now on.

"If there is a team, a bigger team that is playing European football next year, shows an interest with Villa concerning Christian, I would lie if I said that Christian would ignore that."

Manager Paul Lambert, who brought Benteke to the club in an 8 million euro deal from Genk last summer, has confirmed that contract talks between the two parties are underway - however, Kismet claims that there have been no developments.

"That might be possible too [being given a new contract]," he continued. "At this moment nothing is happening, nothing from Chris to say that we are still talking about this or we are having interest from this team.

"He's more than happy to stay if he has to stay but we all know he had a good season and it's normal that maybe other teams are more interested in him and he might be interested to play European football, which is why."

Benteke also took to Twitter to refute the allegations, adding: "Amazing that a French-speaking journalist understands what I really said. I guess that the Dutch-speaking journalist need some French lessons."

Heynckes: It's my last chance to win the Champions League

    281210_heroa.jpg

The Bayern Munich boss has brought the club to the edge of an unprecedented treble this season and he believes - if it plays as a team - it will beat Borussia Dortmund Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has claimed that Saturday's clash with Borussia Dortmund at Wembley will be his last chance to win the Champions League.

The Bavarians boss has brought the club to the edge of an unprecedented treble this season - the Bundesliga title is in the bag, they have reached the DFB-Pokal final and they can be crowned kings of Europe this weekend.

However, he will be replaced by former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola in the summer and as such has looked at the game in London against die Roten's familiar German adversary as his final chance to lift the Champions League trophy."Last Saturday was my last Bundesliga match as a coach and tomorrow will be my last opportunity to hold one of these trophies in my hands," he claimed to reporters on Friday.

Heynckes believes that the final, being held at Wembley to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the FA, should be truly special and believes his Bayern side can beat Dortmund on Saturday as long as it plays as a team and not as individuals.
"Wembley is a place with tradition in English, European and international football," he added. "And that's a particular incentive to players to be in such a venerable location for a Champions League final. I think the atmosphere is going to be unique.

"I've always tried to think positively - I know what my team can achieve. I said that before Juventus, and before Barcelona when we weren't the favorites."I've always thought we could win this competition. We have an extraordinary team and they play as a unit. If we can draw on that tomorrow, we're going to win the match."

Bayern reached the final by beating Juventus 4-0 on aggregate in the quarterfinals and Barcelona 7-0 over two legs in the last four.

Ba: Players excited by Mourinho Chelsea return

    256074_heroa.jpg

The 27-year-old says that his teammates are looking forward to the imminent homecoming of the Portuguese coach, describing him as "one of the best" in the world Chelsea forward Demba Ba says that he and his teammates are already excited about the prospect of Jose Mourinho returning to the club as successor to Rafa Benitez.

The 50-year-old is on the verge of rejoining the Blues after sealing his departure from Real Madrid.

Speaking after the club's 4-3 friendly defeat to Manchester City, in which he scored the opener, Ba remarked that the Portuguese is a man who "wants to win".

"You see what he has won, what he has brought to his teams and to his players individually - and of course he is one of the best," he told Sky Sports News. "He knows everything about Chelsea, having already managed the team for three or four years. He knows everybody here and he knows the club.

"Everybody is thinking about it and everybody is happy. They know that he is a person that wants to win."

Napoli chief: Benitez is new boss

    282071_heroa.jpg

The outgoing Chelsea manager has been confirmed by club president Aurelio De Laurentiis as the replacement to Walter Mazzarri at the Stadio San Paolo.Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has claimed that Rafa Benitez has been hired as the new coach at the Serie A club.

Despite finishing second in Serie A, Walter Mazzarri parted ways with the Partenopei and, until Friday's tease from the owner, who would replace him in the Stadio San Paolo was up in the air.

However, De Laurentiis has ended the speculation by revealing that the outgoing Chelsea boss - who helped the Blues lift the Europa League trophy this season - will soon step into Mazzarri's shoes on a two-year deal.

He told Sky Sport Italiaon Friday: "I've given myself a birthday gift, I've signed Benitez. I'll make it official in the next few days as Benitez needs to end things with Chelsea.

"He'll have a two-year contract, no longer. We need to get to know each other first, then we'll see."
Despite achieving continental glory with the Blues and securing a Champions League spot by finishing third in the Premier League, the former Liverpool boss is not expected to remain in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Instead, Jose Mourinho is expect to make a return to Chelsea - with Real Madrid having confirmed he will leave this summer - and Mazzarri's departure opens the door for Benitez to return to Serie A, which he left in 2010 after an unsuccessful spell at Inter.

One of the former Inter trainer's immediate concerns would be ensuring that star striker Edinson Cavani stays at the Neapolitan club or, if the Spaniard is unable to convince the Uruguayan to stay, then he will want an adequate replacement in attack.

Hargreaves expects Bayern Munich to 'steamroller everything' in coming years

    281740_heroa.jpg

The former England midfielder tips his old club to begin a period of dominance in European football, praising its infrastructure and warning that only complacency can stop it Former Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves has tipped his old team to begin a period of in which it will "steamroller everything" following its clash with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final.

The 32-year-old represented die Roten for 10 years before joining Manchester United in 2007 and won the continental prize with them, defeating Valencia in the 2001 final.

Hargreaves believes that the Bundesliga giant is at the top of the European game at present, telling the Daily Mail: "You have to say they're No.1.

"That team is as good as you'll find, with a work ethic. I'd be shocked if they didn't steamroller everything over the next few years. The only issue is complacency."

With former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola set to take over at the Allianz Arena in the summer, the former Three Lions star feels that the Spaniard may find it difficult to follow this season's potential treble-winning exploits but that he is going to the perfect club to keep up their success.

"The infrastructure has always been there," he explained. "People asked me why Guardiola chose to go there, not Chelsea. Well, he's a smart man. If Bayern is not the best-run club in Europe, you would struggle to find a better one.

"But if they win the treble, what's he going to do? It's only downhill from there. I've heard great things about Guardiola and maybe it's good that he keeps it fresh. Barcelona is the best example. They were the best team ever to play this game and to get beat as they did in the semi-final can only be down to complacency.

"Any team with success over a period can fall victim to that. We thought they were undefeatable and then to go and get beat 7-0 over two legs [by Bayern] ... it wasn't even close. It could have been 12 or 13.

"Bayern have the right balance," he added. "They're a model for a lot of people. Their stadium is probably the best in Europe, their training ground is one of the best, commercially they turn a profit and make their own money. It's done naturally.

"It's mostly [club president] Uli Hoeness who has made the club what it is. He's the heart and soul. There was a time when he said they had to decide if they had enough money to cut the trees and plants down and to go from that to where they are is pretty amazing."

    Inter sacks Stramaccioni

    277955_heroa.jpg

The Serie A club has parted company with the young coach after a disappointing ninth place finish in a season that fell well below expectations.Inter has sacked coach Andrea Stramaccioni after just 14 months in charge.

Sporting director Marco Branca broke the news to the 37-year-old via a telephone call yesterday, following the Nerazzurri's disappointing ninth-place finish in a campaign that included 16 league defeats.

Stramaccioni, who was hired in March 2012 following the departure of Claudio Ranieri, was contracted at the Giuseppe Meazza until the summer of 2015 and both parties are currently locked in negotiations to determine the value of the severance package.

The former Inter Primavera boss earned his reputation by guiding the youth side to victory in the 2012 NextGen series, defeating Ajax in the final and, following Ranieri's departure, was appointed first-team coach by Massimo Moratti last summer on a permanent basis.

However, the club's lowly league position and lack of European football next term have contributed to his exit just 12 months into his three-year contract.

Walter Mazzarri, who earlier in the week confirmed that he is leaving Napoli after guiding the club to second in Serie A, is among the frontrunners to replace Stramaccioni.

Monaco pays 70 million euros for Porto pair

    282418_heroa.jpg

Highly rated Colombian forward James Rodriguez cost the newly promoted Ligue 1 club 45 million euros while midfielder Joao Moutinho heads to France for 25 million euros.Porto duo Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez are joining Monaco in a transfer deal worth 70 million euros.

The big-spending Ligue 1 club confirmed the two transfers on Friday in a move which announces the club's presence as a serious player in the European transfer market this summer.

Moutinho, who was linked with a January move to Tottenham, has cost the newly promoted Ligue 1 outfit 25 million euros, while Colombian forward Rodriguez has been sold for an enormous 45 million euros by the Primeira Division champion.

The pair have both signed five-year deals with the principality club, which has also been linked with a 60 million euro move for Atletico Madrid star Radamel Falcao.

Rodriguez is 21 years old but has commanded a huge fee that makes him currently the most expensive deal of the summer, ahead of Mario Gotze who cost Bayern Munich 37 million euros to buy from fellow Champions League finalist Borussia Dortmund.

The deal, in fact, propels the South American attacker into the top 10 most expensive signings of all time, where he now sits ninth just behind compatriot Falcao but ahead of Hernan Crespo in 10th.

Moutinho, 26, is in the prime of his career and will be considered an excellent coup for Claudio Ranieri's men, who will look to storm the top French tier in 2013-14 having won the Ligue 2 title this season.

Monaco was bought in late 2011 by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev. The sale has seen the club become a heavyweight in the transfer market this summer with promotion assured.

The lack of tax on income in the principality provides an added lure for players wanting to make as much money as possible during their playing career, compared to the heavy tax rates in mainland France, where Paris Saint-Germain is based.

Both players will be presented to the media when the club regroups after a postseason break.
