:shocked:PSG close in on €35m Marquinhos

280137_heroa.jpg

Roma defender Marquinhos is close to agreeing a €35 million transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

The two clubs are in advanced negotiations over the structure of the deal, which is expected to be finalised by the end of the week.

It is believed that Marquinhos has already agreed terms with the French big-hitters and will soon put the finishing touches to the move, with the centre-back's brother claiming on Thursday that a deal had been agreed upon.

"We were awake all night trying to reach an agreement," Luan Aoas told Lancenet. "But finally we succeeded."Barcelona had a €20m bid for the Brazilian teenager rejected by Roma this summer, but they look set to have been overwhelmed by PSG’s financial muscle as the French club eye Marquinhos partnering up with compatriot Thiago Silva in defence.

The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising centre-backs in world football following an excellent debut campaign in Serie A after moving from Corinthians 12 months ago.

Barca made an offer for Marquinhos as they stepped up plans to reinforce their back four this summer, with PSG star Silva and Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny also on the club’s radar.

Roberto Calenda, a representative of Marquinhos, was quoted this week as saying the youngster has had "offers from PSG, Manchester United and Barcelona".

Roma have decided to cash in on the centre-back in order to reinforce other areas of their squad, with Kevin Strootman, Mehdi Benatia and Maicon joining from PSV, Udinese and Manchester City respectively this week. The Giallorossi have also made an €8m bid for Arsenal forward Gervinho.

PSG are now confident of following up the estimated €63 million signing of Edinson Cavani with Marquinhos, with the likelihood that the deal will be complete within 48 hours.

:shocked:Paris St Germain warn Barcelona of Lionel Messi bid if they keep pursuing Thiago Silva

Lionel-Messi-Champions-League-final-2011_2945611.jpg

Paris St Germain's president will attempt to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona for €250million:shocked: if the Catalans choose to meet Thiago Silva's buy-out clause this summer, according to reports in France.

PSG president Sheikh Nasser Al-Khelaifi is unhappy that Barca are continuously being linked with PSG's Brazilian defender and has vowed to play them at their own game.

"If Barca pay the buy-out clause of Thiago Silva then I will meet Messi's buy-out clause," he is quoted as telling ActuSports.fr.Since the end of last term speculation has been rife that Barcelona will make a concrete bid for the PSG star, but the Ligue 1 champions have insisted he will not leave.

Earlier this week, Camp Nou supremo Sandro Rosell attempted to up the ante as he publicly declared that Barca want Thiago Silva and that has not impressed the player's current club.

Now it appears that PSG are ready to use the financial backing of their Qatari owners to meet Messi's buy-out clause and offer him an enormous contract to see if they can persuade the Argentine to leave Spain.

Napoli could be a 'frightening' Juventus rival, warns Lippi

    186588_heroa.jpg

Marcello Lippi believes Napoli could be a "frightening" rival for Juventus this season because of the €63 million sale of Edinson Cavani.

The Partenopei finished second in Serie A, nine points behind Juve, in 2012-13 but are without coach Walter Mazzarri (Inter) and top goalscorer Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain) heading into the new campaign.

However, the legendary former trainer of the Bianconeri, does not believe Rafa Benitez's side are going to suffer from the loss of the Uruguayan and also tipped AC Milan to challenge the reigning Scudetto winners.

"Napoli hold the treasure in their hands after Cavani sale - €63 million is a frightening figure," Lippi told La Gazetta dello Sport. "If club president Aurelio De Laurentiis finds the right players, they can quickly become a credible rival.

"Do you remember what happened when Juve gave Zinedine Zidane to Real Madrid? I still remember the call from the chiefs: 'Marcello, we have to give bad news - Zidane's going to Real.'

"It was a punch in the stomach. But the money brought in from Zizou's sale secured Juve signings such as [Gianluigi] Buffon, [Fabio] Cannavaro and [Lilian] Thuram and opened a new, extraordinary cycle.

"The story can be repeated with the sale of Cavani. Do not forget that Napoli has a born winner on the bench in new coach Rafa Benitez.

"Milan are another team that can come out from the group to challenge. Stephan El Shaarawy was and remains a champion.

"After being out of this world for the first half of the season, he is back on Earth. He needed to take a breather. There's no mystery behind his little crisis. He can easily coexist with Mario Balotelli."

Lippi is evidently a huge fan of Juve's signing of striker Carlos Tevez from Manchester City this summer, though he also took time to praise the progress of last year's transfer coup Paul Pogba.

"Tevez is a perfect investment. He's a warrior, a fighter, he has that nastiness that brings positive electricity in a team," the World Cup-winning coach added. "Juve did not have a player like that.

"And then there's Paul Pogba. He has class, strength, sense of play. He can use his feet and his head. "

PSG no longer interested in Rooney, reveals Blanc

    272959_heroa.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc;- has poured cold water on speculation linking the club with Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney.

Following their acquisition of Edinson Cavani for €63 million, Blanc stated he felt well stocked up front and would only add a midfielder if the Parisien outfit returned to the transfer market.

Speaking to reporters, Blanc said: "Wayne Rooney is a magnificent player but we're very well covered in attack.

"We have to see what we can do in midfield. If there is another arrival, it will be in this sector"

Rooney has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with PSG, Arsenal and Chelsea seen as the frontrunners for the 27-year-old's signature.

But PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi revealed on Wednesday that Rooney was always a back-up option to Cavani, while United rejected an opening bid for the striker from Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Rooney remains the Blues' only remaining transfer target this summer, and Arsene Wenger insisted Arsenal could pay the England international's wages.

Meanwhile PSG are expected to complete the signing of 19-year-old defender Marquinhos from Roma for approximately €35m after the Brazilian flew to Paris for his medical.

Barcelona could suffer from Neymar signing, says De Boer

    293611_heroa.jpg

Former Blaugrana star Frank de Boer has his doubts whether the Brazilian and Lionel Messi will gel, though Jordi Cruyff and Roy Makaay disagree
Barcelona icon Frank de Boer is unsure whether Lionel Messi and Neymar can play in tandem and believes the Liga side could suffer from the clash of egos.

Following the €57 million signing of the Brazilian forward from Santos this summer, many players, pundits and fans have weighed in on whether the South American duo can play alongside each other to wildly differing responses.

De Boer, the current Ajax boss, is of the opinion that Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola did not speak in complete honesty when he said the pair will definiely gel and says that having a number of star players can often cause detrimental friction.

"Of course I understand why Pep doesn't say that Messi and Neymar can't play together," De Boer told Voetbal International. "He want to keep the relationship wih Barcelona good. And of course he hopes that it will work out.

"But in the past, with Samuel Eto'o or Zlatan Ibrahimovic near Messi, Pep himself found out that two leaders doesn't always work. Just like he said to me that two is too much. I understand the doubts.

"It's great to have two players who can score goals. But to put it in the right words: it does not happens often that two star players perfectly work together.

"I'm too far away from the situation to judge about the characteristics of Messi and Neymar. But there will be a moment that one star player thinks he's more important then the other."

Jordi Cruyff, son of Barca legend Johan and a former Camp Nou player himself, however, believes the two will work well together.

"In the history of Barcelona it often worked fine with two stars in one team," he said. "In the early '80s there were Diego Maradona and Bernd Schuster together, and Romario and Hristo Stoichkov played together. Those guys did a great job up front.

"When there is respect and there are clear rules, I don't see a problem to line up two big names. It will be clear that Messi is and will stay the star player. Neymar will accept that. Messi understands that the arrival from Neymar at Barcelona is a good thing. Messi and Neymar will play every match, as long as it's clear who's the No.1 and who's the No.2 [in the pecking order]."

Former Bayern star Roy Makaay is another ex-pro who sees the signing of Neymar as a major positive to the Catalans and pointed at the star figures already in the squad as evidence that it can work.

He said: "With Xavi and Andres Iniesta on the midfield you've got another two leaders who decide the tempo of Barcelona. Messi is the only true star and he will stay that.

"But I can't imagine why he and Neymar can't play together. Neymar will play from the left and Messi will stay where he is [in the middle]. I'm convinced it will work out. As attackers it's important to have the right chemistry. Barcelona will train on that in the lead-up to the season."

Suarez worth as much as Cavani, says Rodgers

    284734_heroa.jpg

Brendan Rodgers remains adamant that Liverpool will hang onto Luis Suarez this summer, and says any bid for the 26-year-old would have to match the €63 million Paris Saint-Germain spent on Edinson Cavani.

Goal reported on Friday that Arsenal are preparing an improved offer for the former Groningen and Ajax striker worth up to £40m, but that still falls some way short of the fee Napoli received for Suarez's countryman Cavani.

Rodgers is convinced that the wantaway striker is amongst the best players in the world and says any bid for Suarez would have to reflect his talent, though remains hopeful of keeping the Uruguayan at Anfield.

"When you consider that Cavani has gone for £55million you know... Luis is up there in that bracket of top talent," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

"Obviously it was an offer [from Arsenal] we didn't deem worthy of the talent and even if they came back with that kind of amount [£55m] there's no guarantee he would be sold even for that because we are trying to build something here."

"We are totally in control of the situation, it is one where we don't have to sell," he added. "He has got three years left on his contract.

"We are prepared to get some players in and spend money without having to sell Luis Suarez."

'I can deal with Neymar competition' - Tello

    267874_heroa.jpg

Barcelona starlet Cristian Tello has insisted he can fight with the likes of Neymar for a regular starting XI spot this season.

The 21-year-old has the task of competing with the €57 million Brazilian forward, Lionel Messi, Alexis Sanchez, Cesc Fabregas, Pedro and more for a position in the Catalans' line-up in the coming campaign.

However, Tello is adamant that he can force his way in Tito Vilanova's reckoning and wished Thiago Alcantara the best following his transfer from Camp Nou to Bayern Munich.

"My choice and my dream is to succeed at Barca," he told reporters on Friday. "Every year is more important. I have a position in the world's squad, but I hope for more prominence with hard work.

"I want to fight for a place in the starting XI. Every year I have more experience and I like the challenge. I am prepared to deal with competition from Neymar and all the others who are very good - the competition is fierce."

The Spain Under-21 international went on to congratulate Thiago Alcantara on his recent move to Bayern Munich and urged Barca fans to accept his former team-mate's choice to leave Camp Nou.

"People should respect Thiago's decision. It's a great signing for Bayern. I congratulate him and wish him the best."

    Manchester City confirm Negredo capture

    297409_heroa.jpg

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Spain and Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo.

Goal revealed on Tuesday that City had struck a £21.7m deal for the forward, with £2.6m also agreed in add-ons, and the club officially confirmed Negredo's signing on Friday.

The 27-year-old has scored 63 goals in 95 appearances for Sevilla but will now wear the No. 9 shirt as new boss Manuel Pellegrini's third signing at the Etihad Stadium.

Negredo follows in the footsteps of Fernandinho and former team-mate Jesus Navas, who joined City from Sevilla earlier this summer.

"City are delighted to announce the signing of Alvaro Negredo, who becomes the club’s third new recruit of the summer," read a statement.

"He will join up with the squad on the pre-season tour, and wear the No. 9 shirt."

Stevan Jovetic is also set to join last season's Premier League runners-up in the near future after the club agreed a £23.3m initial fee with Serie A side Fiorentina, with Pellegrini eager to bolster his striking options.

Determined Jovetic could prove key for Manchester City

    266744_heroa.jpg

Stevan Jovetic is only now poised to leave Fiorentina. However, his career at the club effectively ended in June, when he gave an unauthorised interview to the Gazzetta dello Sport in which he not only declared his intention to leave but to do so for the Florene outfit's most hated rivals, Juventus.

That Jovetic is actually departing for Manchester City is somewhat surprising, given that he has never made any secret of his desire to remain in Italy. However, his move away from the Stadio Artemio Franchi was inevitable as soon as he spoke to the press without permission, provoking outrage among the Viola's directors and supporters.

However, we should not have been too surprised by Jovetic having rather boldly decided to take matters into his own hands. Yes, the 23-year-old is a rather affable character who simply loves playing football - however, he is also a very determined young man. He has long believed that he - and only he - is the master of his own destiny.

Indeed, when he was about to make his comeback from an anterior ligament injury that had sidelined him for the entire 2010-11 season, he revealed that, as far as he was concerned, his recovery had been significantly aided by 'The Secret', a controversial self-help book that trumps the power of positive thought.

"I will return stronger than before," he declared at the time. And he did. In every sense. Not only has Jovetic noticeably bulked up over the past two years, he has also honed his already considerable skills to become an even more complete forward.

He is still not yet a prolific goalscorer - his best single-season haul in Italy is just 14 - but he undeniably has the ability to become one. Jovetic has long been renowned for his two-footedness and ability to beat a player but he has also exhibited greatly improved predatory instincts over the past two years.

When he first arrived in Italy from Paritzan in 2008, it was obvious that he was a player of enormous potential. However, the slender 18-year-old with the Brian May-esque hair initially struggled to get to grips with the Italian game.

Of course, he first came to the attention of British audiences with his two-goal salvo against Liverpool in the group stages of the 2009-10 Champions League but, in many ways, his injury was the making of him.

As he said upon his return to the game: "When I arrived in Florence I was little more than a child; now I have become a man."

It is that self-belief that has been driving him ever since. It is the reason why he has developed into such a formidable attacking talent and why he decided that he could not go another year at Fiorentina without Champions League football.

"I'm young and ambitious and it is normal to feel the need to test myself elsewhere," he explained in June. "I do not think there's anything wrong with desire.

"Florence and the Viola fans have always asked me to be upfront: so here it is. I need stimulation elsewhere; I need to devote myself in a top club. I've played in Europe with Fiorentina; now I want to win in Europe."

Of course, the cynics would say that, if he wants to do that, he is joining the wrong club. He would surely have been better off at Juventus, Champions League quarter-finalists last season?

However, Bianconeri director Beppe Marotta claimed earlier in July that the Italian champions had decided against signing Jovetic because they felt that Carlos Tevez was the answer to their attacking problems. That could very well prove the case.

City, though, should be just as enthusiastic about Jovetic's arrival at Eastlands because, coincidentally, the Montenegrin could be the answer to theirs.

For all his fantastic dribbling skills, sublime ball control and tactical versatility - he can play anywhere in attack - what really sets Jovetic apart is his mental strength and incredible will to win. That has been the secret of his success to date - and could now be a key contributing factor in bringing some success back to City next season.

Arsenal to make new £40m Suarez bid

    265339_heroa.jpg

Arsenal will make a staggering bid worth £40 million for Luis Suarez in the next 48 hours, Goal understands.

Arsene Wenger is preparing to submit a formal offer of £35m up front, topped up by £5m of add-ons.

Sources have said the Arsenal manager will 'pull out all the stops' in an attempt to land the Liverpool forward this summer.

It is understood the Gunners' initial bid that was rejected out of hand by the Merseysiders a fortnight ago was worth £30m plus £5m add-ons.

Arsenal are now prepared to go into completely unchartered territory to capture Suarez, who has become the main focus of Wenger's attention as he attempts to make a marquee striker signing.

Liverpool are fighting to hold on to a player who has spoken frequently this summer of his interest in a move, most specifically to Real Madrid.

Brendan Rodgers has compared Suarez' value to that of Edinson Cavani, who joined Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday for £55m, but the Anfield manager has stopped short of completely ruling out the Uruguayan's departure, merely saying he will only leave "if something drastic happens".

A bid worth £40m for a 26-year-old who is banned for the first six games of the new season might be regarded as tempting by Liverpool's America-based owners Fenway Sports Group.

Suarez has a £40m clause in his contract which his advisers believe entitles him to ask for permission to speak to any club that matches the price. But Liverpool claim they only have to inform Suarez and the clause does not oblige them to sell.

Arsenal believe they have been given enough encouragement by the Uruguayan's representatives that he is keen to move to the Emirates Stadium in search of Champions League football.

The offer will be timed to coincide with Suarez returning to pre-season training following his extended summer break. The striker will link up with Liverpool on Sunday ahead of the Australia leg of their pre-season tour.

Suarez has emerged as Wenger's first choice ahead of Gonzalo Higuain and Wayne Rooney, deals for who are now both on the backburner.

The Liverpool forward is regarded by Arsenal as an upgrade on Higuain, who came close to joining Arsenal earlier this month after they made an improved offer of £23.1m.

However, Madrid are holding out for £25.5m for the Argentine, and, although Arsenal's interest in Higuain is still alive and a deal remains highly possible, Wenger is now concentrating on signing Suarez.

However, Arsenal will continue to monitor Rooney's situation as they step up plans to use a warchest of up to £100m to make at least two marquee signings this summer, most likely in the striker and central midfield positions.

Capello: Neymar & Messi will be unbeatable

    181231_heroa.jpg

Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has suggested that Lionel Messi and Neymar's partnership at Barcelona will be unbeatable.

The Brazilian, who will wear the No.11 shirt at Camp Nou this season, joined in a €57 million deal from Santos ahead of June's Confederations Cup.

And the Russia boss believes the duo will link up together to great effect.

"Neymar is an extraordinary player, with unique quality," he told Antena 3. "He has speed, technical quality, shoots with both feet and knows how to always be in the best position [on the pitch].

"I think it will be very difficult to beat Messi and Neymar together, because they have, at all times, the ability to score goals. This is important if you want to win trophies in every competition."

Capello also gave his advice to new Santiago Bernabeu incumbent and fellow Italian Carlo Ancelotti, telling him to try to maintain a low profile and let his team do the talking on the pitch.

"When you go to Madrid, you need to be aware that the club comes before the players, the coach, before everything," the ex-Juventus and England boss added.

"You shouldn't try to be the most important person at Real Madrid. Ancelotti's very smart. He knows how to coach a team. He's a quiet man and he is experienced - he has excellent qualities for leading Real Madrid."

The veteran trainer is also glad that Madrid made mega-money moves for Isco and Asier Illarramendi this summer and believes La Liga has the top prospects in the game in 2013.

"The most promising youngsters in football right now are in Spain, which is why Real Madrid have signed them," Capello continued. "They have experience, talent and they know the style needed to play in Spain."

Thiago will be one of the best - Montoya

    296503_heroa.jpg

The Spain Under-21 star is sad to see his former team-mate leave Camp Nou but is excited about the potential of youngster Sergi Roberto
Barcelona midfielder Martin Montoya believes that former team-mate Thiago Alcantara will develop into one of the world's finest players following his move to Bayern Munich.

The duo came through the ranks at Camp Nou together and while the full-back is disappointed to see the playmaker depart, he is excited by the potential of Sergi Roberto, who is set to take his place in the squad.

"He'll become one of the best in the world," Montoya told Marca.

"That's the path he's chosen. Sergi Roberto is coming up right behind him and we hope he can be just as successful as Thiago."

Camp Nou youngsters Gerard Deulofeu and Rafinha have both been sent out on loan for the 2013-14 season and Montoya believes they will both benefit from their respective spells away.

"It's really tough to break into the team because we have the best players in the world here. We youngsters have to be patient or go out on loan to get some minutes and keep up our fitness."

Barca's arch rivals Real Madrid have strengthened their squad with the likes of Isco and Asier Illarramendi this summer and Montoya believes they will be a force to be reckoned with next term.

"Real Madrid have made some very good signings. It's good news because it means Spain's youth set-up is doing its job."

Bale hints at Tottenham stay after praising Villas-Boas

    296580_heroa.jpg

Gareth Bale has dropped his strongest hint yet that he could stay at Tottenham this summer by praising manager Andre Villas-Boas ahead of the new season.

The Welsh winger’s agent had previously hinted at a potential move to Real Madrid, while Manchester United also enquired about the 24-year-old only to be stunned by Spurs’ £70m asking price.

But last season’s PFA and Football Writers’ Player of the Year is keen to continue working with Tottenham boss Villas-Boas, who he believes gets the best out of him on the pitch.

"We have a great relationship," Bale is quoted as saying in the Evening Standard. "Last season we had a great campaign and obviously we came up short but we had a great working relationship on and off the field.

"We chatted quite a lot about tactics and stuff like that. He definitely got the best out of me last season and hopefully can again.”

Bale scored a career-high 31 goals for club and country last term and the Tottenham hierarchy are desperate for the 24-year-old to stay at White Hart Lane.

Goal revealed earlier this summer that Villas-Boas, owner Joe Lewis and chairman Daniel Levy had held talks while in the Carribean as to how best to keep Bale at White Hart Lane.

:(Barcelona: Fabregas is not for sale

    273215_heroa.jpg

The Blaugrana have made it clear to Manchester United the attacker is not for sale despite a €30 million bid being received for his services
Barcelona have issued a hands-off warning to Manchester United over Cesc Fabregas, according to the club's vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

David Moyes had stated earlier on Friday that he was hopeful of receiving some good news regarding a deal for the midfielder after club executive vice chairman Ed Woodward entered into negotiations with the Catalans.

But despite reports that United are confident of reaching an agreement for the Blaugrana star, Bartomeu has moved to quash any speculation.

"Barcelona can assure you we will not entertain any offers for Cesc," he told Sport. "It is totally ruled out, he's not for sale."

United confirmed an opening offer of €30 million had been made to Barca on Monday, before Woodward left the club's pre-season visit to Australia on Wednesday to attend "urgent transfer business".

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has been in regular contact with Fabregas this summer, claimed on Wednesday that his former captain has decided to stay at Camp Nou for another year.

Elsewhere, speculation regarding Wayne Rooney's future has intensified, with reports in Friday's press claiming that the United hierarchy are keen to sit down with the striker and his agent, Paul Stretford, after claims that he is "angry and confused" were leaked to the press.
