    Moyes excited by Kagawa potential

    264019_heroa.jpg

New Manchester United boss David Moyes is relishing the chance to work with Shinji Kagawa after hearing good things about him from predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson.

Kagawa linked up with his United team-mates for the first time since May on Monday, when the squad arrived in Japan on the third stop of their pre-season tour.

And although the 24-year-old is not expected to feature in Tuesday's game against Yokohama F Marinos, Moyes says he is looking forward to learning more about Kagawa this season.

"I know a little about him as a player," said Moyes.

"Sir Alex spoke in glowing terms about Shinji and how good a player he is. I've just met him today, so we're getting to know each other. I'm trying to learn Japanese and he's trying to understand my Scottish.

"It was his first season in the Premier League last year. He's a young player so we hope his development continues. I look forward to working with him and hopefully he has a really good season coming up."

The Japan international featured 26 times for the Premier League champions in his debut season, scoring a total of six goals, but recently admitted to feeling lost at Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, Kagawa is hoping to make a quick impression and build a strong working relationship with his new manager.

"We still need more time to get to know each other, but I'm looking forward to building up our relations," he said.

"As a player, I feel every game is important and I want to give my very best to give a good impression to the coach."

Puyol targets Thiago Silva pairing at Barcelona

    284776_heroa.jpg

Carles Puyol says Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Thiago Silva could be the man to help him shore up Barcelona's backline.

The Brazil defender, 28, who moved to the French capital last season from AC Milan, has been heavily linked with the Blaugrana despite having four years remaining on his contract.

The Catalan giants suffered from a dearth of quality in the heart of their defence in the last campaign following injuries and suspensions to key players, but Puyol. 35. believes some of these issues can be amended with the Brazilian in the team.

“The centre of defence is a position hit hard by injuries,” he told reporters.

“Thiago is one of the best centre-backs in the world and I think he would adapt well to Barcelona.”

Puyol is saddened by the departure of Tito Vilanova, but knows the club must move on, providing his opinion on potential replacements, including Celta Vigo coach Luis Enrique and Newell’s Old Boys boss Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino.

“We have a very specific way of playing, and the coaches linked to this job will come in and follow that style. We all want the best for the club, so I trust whoever they bring in will be fine," he added.

“I have a good relationship with Luis Enrique and I have trained with him before. He is one of the most accomplished names out there, but I like all the others as well.

"I know Tata is a good coach and I really like his style of play. He is very complex and tough on his players. He does not let them train easily."

Tottenham send Baldini to negotiate Soldado deal with Valencia

    277196_heroa.jpg

Tottenham have sent technical director Franco Baldini to Spain to negotiate a deal for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado, Goal has learned.

Baldini, who was appointed by the north London club in June, was dispatched to open talks with los Che regarding the Spain international.

Valencia president Amadeo Salvo has given a number of interviews on the subject of his star striker in recent weeks, most recently claiming that any prospective buyer has until August 3 to cough up the €29 million buy-out clause.

Spurs have turned their attentions to Soldado after baulking at Aston Villa's £25m asking price for Christian Benteke, who has since opted to sign a new contract at Villa Park.

Long-term target Leandro Damaio has recently been the subject of interest from Napoli, while Zenit St Petersburg have also been credited with an interest.

Baldini was Roma's chief negotiator during his time in the Italian capital and has been charged with the task of securing a big-name striker for manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Manchester United prepare final €41m bid for Fabregas

    208021_heroa.jpg

Manchester United will make an improved third bid worth €41 million for Cesc Fabregas after Barcelona rejected their latest offer for the midfielder, Goal understands.

The Blaugrana have turned down United’s second bid for Fabregas - worth €35m plus add-ons - and have told the Premier League champions the former Arsenal captain is not for sale.

United, however, are preparing a third and final bid to test Barcelona’s reserve as the club’s vice-president, Ed Woodward, looks to provide new manager David Moyes with a stellar midfield signing this summer.

The Premier League champions would offer Fabregas a wage package worth around €233,000-a-week but fear they will be unable to agree a fee with Barcelona to take the player to Old Trafford.

Moyes confirmed on Monday that United had lodged an improved bid for Fabregas, as the 26-year-old is ready to consider his future at the Camp Nou, with former club Arsenal holding a €29m buy-back clause and also monitoring the situation.

Barca expect to keep Fabregas, particularly in light of Thiago Alcantara’s departure to Bayern Munich, and United sources are increasingly pessimistic about the club’s chances of landing the Spain international.

"This is the final push," a source close to the deal told Goal. "They are only willing to give it one more go, and know that if this fails they have other options."

Moyes publicly admitted United may be forced to accept defeat in their pursuit of Fabregas, while Barcelona are believed to have given the English club short shrift, not least because their second offer was made on the same day that coach Tito Vilanova announced his resignation for health reasons.

United are considering alternatives should they miss out on Fabregas, with Luka Modric, Yohan Cabaye and and Marouane Fellaini all on Moyes’ shortlist to add creativity and attacking threat to his midfield.

United made their first bid of €29m for Fabregas last week, which the Catalans immediately rejected, prompting Woodward to leave the pre-season trip to Australia ahead of schedule on Wednesday.

Fabregas returned to his hometown club in 2011 after eight years at Arsenal, but has struggled for a regular starting spot at the Camp Nou.

He still made 32 appearances for Barca last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists.

:shocked:Real Madrid to bid world record £85million for Tottenham’s Gareth Bale

    635x10004-e1374522149259.jpg

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to splash out £85million for Tottenham’s superstar winger Gareth Bale.

Spanish newspaper and website El Confidencial reports the Spanish giants, now managed by Carlo Ancelotti, are readying a blockbuster bid for the 24-year-old Welshman.Bale has been linked away with a move from White Hart Lane this summer but Spurs’ stance has always been the player is not for sale.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has spoken in the past about the huge fee it would take for the club to even consider selling Bale but his resolve is sure to be tested if the bid is lodged.El Confidencial credits Manchester United’s plans to bid £60m for Bale – David Moyes is keen to sign a marquee summer player to begin his tenure at Old Trafford – as the reason why Real have been sparked into action.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas will not want to lose Bale, who won the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player last season, but may not have any choice in the matter if Levy decides to cash in on the club’s prize asset.

:(Yokohama F Marinos 3-2 Manchester United: Late strike hands Moyes second pre-season defeat

    298530hp2.jpg

Manchester United succumbed to a second defeat in their pre-season tour of Asia as Yokohama F Marinos battled to a thrilling 3-2 victory in the Nassan Stadium on Tuesday.

The Red Devils were stunned by an early strike from Marquinhos, and could have conceded further goals in an unsteady opening period, before Jesse Lingard bagged his third goal in two games to level the scores. A calamitous Masakazu Tashiro own goal then ensured United went into the break in the lead.

Just as they did in the first half, Yokohama made a flying start to the second period with centre-back Fabio Aguiar equalling for Yokohama with a powerful header. The home side completed the turnaround when Yoshihito Fujita stroked the ball home late on.

Michael Carrick was absent from the squad with a groin injury, underlining the need to tie up a deal for Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas, while Wilfried Zaha started in a United attack that was spearheaded by Robin van Persie.

David De Gea, making his first pre-season start, had to wait just 27 seconds before he was picking the ball out of the back of the net. The Spaniard made a fine save to deny a thunderous long-range effort from Marquinhos, but the Brazilian followed up his effort to rifle the loose ball into the bottom corner with a crisp volley.

Yokohama, looking far fitter and sharper than their visiting opponents, were threatening to extend their lead. First Shunsuke Nakamura, once of Celtic, saw his corner headed off the line by Adnan Januzaj, then Yuzo Kobayashi hit the by-line and pulled the ball back for Marquinhos, forcing De Gea into a fine stop with his feet.

The Premier League champions finally made their class show in the 19th minute, as Zaha burst towards goal down the right, jinking his way past the 39-year-old Dutra and into the box. His cross, aimed at Van Persie, was blocked by Tashiro on the goal-line, but fell kindly to Lingard who tapped into the net.

Tashiro was back in the action soon after. Goalkeeper Tetsuya Enomoto was, not for the first time, left flapping at a set-piece delivery, this time from Januzaj, and the ball ricocheted off central defender Tashiro and bobbled towards goal. Despite a despairing last-ditch clearance, the whole ball tricked across the line and the goal was given.

David Moyes made two changes at half-time, introducing Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck in place of Lingard and Van Persie respectively. The England striker almost made an immediate impact, forcing substitute keeper Yuji Rokutan into a sprawling save, before Jonny Evans side-footed the ball wide from close range.

That miss would prove costly, as towering Yokohama defender Fabio soared above the United defence at the back post and headed a pin-point Shingo Hyodo corner past De Gea.

The home crowd erupted as though Yokohama had scored in the 62nd minute when Japanese poster-boy and local hero Shinji Kagawa was finally introduced. The former Dortmund schemer had a great chance to give United the lead moments later, but curled a left-footed effort straight into the arms of Rokutan.

United pushed forward in search of victory in the sweltering heat of the Nissan Stadium, but it was Yokohama who grabbed a thoroughly deserved winner. Substitute Jin Hanato, stumbling towards goal, squared the ball to Fujita who nervelessly placed the ball into the bottom corner.

Real Madrid ready to bid £85m for Bale

    27cc94c5-f6a2-43c6-bf24-d902b5bed12a_500.jpg

Real Madrid are set to finally launch a long-anticipated £85 million move for Tottenham's Gareth Bale, according to new reports emanating from Spain.

Spanish newspaper El Confidencial reported on Tuesday that the Spanish side, now managed by Carlo Ancelotti, are finally ready to step up their pursuit of the Wales international - despite his repeated assertions that he is willing to stay with Spurs for at least another season.

Marca claimed that Bale has agreed a six-year deal with Madrid, having told Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that he wants to quit the club for Spain. However, Tottenham have always been confident of keeping Bale - with Andre Villas-Boas reiterating that stance on Tuesday at a press conference in Hong Kong.

"I want to repeat what I was telling you last season and what I was telling you from the beginning of pre-season so I cannot extend myself," Villas-Boas said, when asked about Bale's future. "He is a player that we are willing to continue to have, he's a Tottenham player, he's one of the most fantastic players in the world at the moment and we are counting on him for the future."

Nevertheless, Marca remain adamant Bale wants to make the move, reporting on a meeting between Bale's agent and the Real hierarchy. The paper claims the player's agent, Jonathan Barnett, produced a photograph of a 10-year-old Bale in a Real Madrid shirt, telling Real president Florentino Perez: "Have no doubts - Gareth has wanted to play for Madrid since he was a kid."

Real have previously admitted their admiration for Bale - who scored 21 goals in 34 Premier League games last season - but have been reluctant to discuss any transfer in detail in the press, citing their good relationship with Tottenham as the reason. The two clubs have previously done business for midfielder Luka Modric, with the Croatian's transfer to Madrid greeted by Spurs announcing that they had entered a "partnership agreement" with the Liga club.

However, last month Perez acknowledged that the club would be willing to spend a vast sum to bring in a player of the quality and profile of Bale. "For those players and investments that generate and produce income, you can give everything in life," Perez told Marca. "But we don't speak of Bale so much because he plays at a friendly club to us and they will be annoyed if we speak. I know their chairman well and he doesn't like these things."

El Confidencial claims that Real's renewed interest has been sparked by suggestions Manchester United are ready to lodge their own bid for Bale.

Cesc Fabregas considering Barcelona future after Manchester United bid

    CescFabregas_2903812.jpg

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas is considering his future with the Spanish club after Manchester United made a second bid for him, according to Sky sources.
The Catalan giants have said publicly that they do not want to sell the former Arsenal star.

However, the final decision on Fabregas' future could now be accelerated after Barcelona appointed Argentinian Gerardo Martino as their new coach in place of Tito Vilanova.United's initial offer for Fabregas was rejected but they are understood to have made a second offer of £30million plus add-ons.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique had earlier told United they were wasting their time trying to buy Fabregas and there were also reports in Spain on Monday that Barcelona had rejected United's second bid.Pique, a former United centre-back, was quoted in The Sun as saying: "United are wasting their time. It took a long time for Cesc to get his dream move back home and he won't give it up.

"This is home. It is where his family is, and he is playing with his closest friends. He has told us he is happy and that he intends to stay with Barcelona."

Barcelona to reinvest Villa wages in youth players

    297526_heroa.jpg

Barcelona have committed to investing money from the sale of David Villa to Atletico Madrid this summer in the latest young stars at the club.

The Spain international joined Atletico for a transfer fee potentially rising to €5.1m, but club vice-president Javier Faus believes the funds saved by removing Villa from the wage bill with a year left to run on his contract will prove fruitful for the latest crop of talent from la Masia.

"We’ll earn €2.5 million, or €5m if he completes his three-year contract. We lost €8.3m, but from an economic point of view we don’t get too worked up about signing costs, because the real issue at the club are the wages, which are a fixed cost," Faus stated at a press conference.

"Villa was a player who commanded a high salary, and his income increased every year; that’s something that can’t be avoided.

"We’ll potentially bring in €5m and we can use that money to spend on promising young players. In January Villa could have talked to other clubs and Barca wouldn’t have seen a penny. It’s been a good bit of business."

The 31-year-old joined Barcelona in 2010 in a €40m move from Valencia, netting 33 goals in 77 La Liga appearances during his time at Camp Nou.

    Mourinho piles pressure on Pellegrini

    297221_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho claims that there is more pressure on Manchester City and Manuel Pellegrini this season than on his Chelsea side.

The Portuguese boss cited the vast sums of money the defeated FA Cup finalists have spent on a group of experienced players this summer, while the Blues have signed the 22-year-old Andre Schurrle and 20-year-old Marco van Ginkel.

Mourinho believes that his young side are far from the finished article and in need of learning experiences, while the pressure is firmly on City to pay back their vast expenditure with a serious title challenge.

"Of course," the Blues boss told reporters when asked if more should be expected of City than Chelsea. "Young players are not at the best they will be. They need to learn, they need time to get to the top.

"I know the players they've bought. You are talking about [Jesus] Navas and [Alvaro] Negredo, they are two world champions, two European champions.

"[Stevan] Jovetic, for more than two years, is one of the best in Italian football. He has five years of Fiorentina, playing in Serie A at the highest level. Fernandinho has more experience, a national team player.

"I think they are players without surprises. They are more than ready. If you see their age, their maturity, they are in the perfect moment of their career to go to England, no need for adaptation, no need of work to learn the project.

"They are players at the top of their careers, experienced but still young. They bought very, very well. That doesn't surprise me because they have the money to buy but also the knowledge. They have people in the club that know a lot about football."

Given the inexperience of the Chelsea squad, Mourinho believes that a title win this season could be the best of his highly-successful career, while continuing to ramp up the pressure on Pellegrini to succeed.

"It's different," continued the Portuguese. "It can be better because I always say that the best trophy you have is the last one. If we win something important with this group, it will be the best for many reasons.

"In my first time you [the media] were always putting pressure on me saying: 'You buy this, you spend that, you buy the title.'

"So I hope now it is on the other side. It's always difficult to win. You can have the best players but you have other kinds of problems."

Juventus top Bayern for Champions League earnings

    297024_heroa.jpg

Juventus earned more from the Champions League than any other club last season.
The Serie A club were beaten by eventual winners Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, but still made €65.3 million from the competition - compared to €55m collected by the German champions.

This was mostly due to the Italian side gaining much of the TV money in their own country, with Uefa explaining that "monies from the market pool were divided according to the proportional value of the national TV market each individual club represented".

Under the European governing body's system for distributing Champions League cash, the amounts given to clubs varies by country and is related to the performance of all teams representing a particular nation.Bayern - who also won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in 2012-13 - earned less because fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund also made the final at Wembley.

Jurgen Klopp's side took home €54.16m, thanks partly to the reward for winning four of their six group stage games, which brought in €1m per match.Milan, Real Madrid and Barcelona were the next biggest earners, gaining €51.3m, €48.4m and €45.5m respectively, even though the latter beat the Serie A side in the last-16 stage.

Manchester United, who lost to Madrid in the last 16, were the best rewarded Premier League side with €35.5m. By comparison, Chelsea made €60m from winning the competition in 2012.In total, €904.6m was handed out to 32 clubs, while in the Europa League the overall fund was €209m.

Semi-finalists Fenerbahce were the biggest earners from the competition with €11.18m, while winners Chelsea made €10.7m to add to the €30.5m they made from the Champions League.

Gago set to rejoin Boca Juniors

    16119_heroa.jpg

Valencia has confirmed midfielder Fernando Gago is set to re-sign for Boca Juniors this summer for a fee believed to be in the region of €1.7 million.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a return to his former club during the off-season and los Che's sporting director, Damia Vidagany, has confirmed the deal with just formalities to sort.

He told Telam: "Gago is no longer a Valencia player. Therefore we will not talk about him anymore.

"Boca made a €1.7m bid for 50 per cent of the the transfer and we accept that. All we need is the offer on paper."

Meanwhile, Boca president Daniel Angelici has confirmed the wheels are in motion to bring the former Real Madrid man back to la Bombonera and expects the deal to be finalised by Monday.

He told Radio 9: We have agreed to Gago's contract and wages. Everything is on track and I believe that he will be here by Monday."
