Agent claims Moura deal is off

Lucas Moura's agent Wagner Ribeiro says any move to Manchester United is off as they will not up their bid for the Brazilian ace.

United have lodged an offer for the Sao Paulo midfielder, currently in England with Brazil's Olympic squad.

But with Sao Paulo wanting around £30million, it appears their asking price could be too high.Ribeiro, one of the leading agents in South America, does not think Moura will be moving anywhere this summer after United's bid was rejected."They have reached their limit," Ribeiro told UOL.

"Lucas Moura won't leave. He is happy at Sao Paulo. We have to forget this subject. There is no possibility he leaves now."Manchester United made an offer, which was rejected and they won't make another one as they have reached their limit."

Marko Marin is looking forward to playing with Fernando Torres

    198945hp2.jpg

NEW YORK -- New Chelsea FC signing Marko Marin is looking forward to playing with Fernando Torres. The German playmaker believes he can help bring out the best of the Spanish striker.

"Fernando is a top player. For us wingers, it's nice for us to have a player like him up front," Marin told Goal.com. "He's fun to play to with. He's very fast and sharp. I look forward to playing with him."

With Didier Drogba departing Chelsea after the club's surprising Champions League victory, Torres becomes the team's top option at the lone forward position. Since Torres' arrival in January 2011 in a transer worth 50 million pounds, he has only scored seven goals in 46 appearances with the club. That's a dramatic dip from his Liverpool days where he averaged over 16 goals a season.

With the summer additions of Marin, Eden Hazard and possibly Brazilian playmaker Oscar, head coach Roberto Di Mateo has brought in players who can penetrate and create more spaces for Torres.

In Marin's second preseason appearance for the Blues, the former Werden Bremen star displayed why he can be a creative force for Chelsea in the club's 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain at Yankee Stadium.

With Chelsea's offense stagnating in the first half, Marin came on for the final 45 minutes and terrorized PSG's flank defenders, opening spots on the pitch for Chelsea's attack. It was some promising play from Marin and he was quick to point out that it was only his second game.

"It was my second game and I enjoyed every game now," he said. "I'm happy to be here playing with such high quality of players."

I'm very happy to see Marin playing like this..! he's doing better than expected..:love::D

    Van damn!

    mancini1_1553387a.jpg

ROBERTO MANCINI is furious Manchester City are falling behind in the race to sign Robin van Persie.

The City boss has become increasingly annoyed with football administration officer Brian Marwood for not securing Arsenal’s Dutch star.Mancini was hoping to have signed Van Persie ahead of the club’s tour of China, with City due to play Arsenal in Beijing on Friday.

But the Etihad manager has been told that before a deal for Van Persie can be completed, he will first have to reduce the club’s wage bill by offloading at least one of Edin Dzeko, Emmanuel Adebayor or Carlos Tevez.

City have so far offered £15million — the highest bid so far — yet Arsenal insist they will not listen to offers below £20m as Manchester United, Paris St Germain and Juventus are also interested.Arsenal, who play Malaysia tonight, have been preparing for City officials to make a second bid.

Juventus are ready to rival City with wages of £200,000 a week but they are not prepared to pay more than £16m.United have so far bid £13m and Juve just £8m. But Arsenal could turn down all offers of less than £20m and make Van Persie see out the final year of his contract.

Offer Moura cash or forget about Lucas

    moura_1553626a.jpg

LUCAS MOURA'S proposed move to Manchester United appears to be dead in the water — unless Alex Ferguson agrees to meet Sao Paulo's asking price.

United boss Fergie is keen to add the 19-year-old Brazilian to his squad. But Moura's agent Wagner Ribeiro has made it clear the offer on the table is below his client's valuation. Ribeiro said: "United have reached their limit, they will not offer anything more.

"He will not leave and is happy in Sao Paulo. This matter has to be terminated, there is no possibility of him leaving now. “Manchester United made an offer, which was refused, and will not do another because they came up to their limit.”

Colorado Rapids 2-1 Swansea: Rapids take win over EPL side in friendly

    192301hp2.jpg

Swansea was defeated 2-1 in its first preseason friendly of the new season after a strong first-half display from the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, provided the goals needed to down the Premier League outfit.

Michael Laudrup's side fell behind to an early Andre Akpan goal as the Texan rose to meet Luis Zapata's pinpoint cross after four minutes, planting his header past Gerhard Tremmel.

Though the Swans came close to finding a reply via Leon Britton's long-range effort, the Rapids doubled their lead in impressive fashion as Kamani Hill drilled a 25-yarder in off the post on the quarter of an hour mark.

This kicked the visitors into life and though striker Danny Graham squandered two decent chances – the best a shot on the turn that was well saved by Steward Ceus – they went into the break 2-0 down.

The Welsh side started the second period far stronger, falling into its natural possession game quicker than it did in the first half but struggled to convert this into genuine chances in the first 15 minutes.

In the 72nd minute Leroy Lita had Swansea's best chance as he met Ben Davies cross, but saw his powerful header into the ground bounce over the crossbar.

The improvement in possession saw some good work by Kemy Agustien, Luke Moore and Lita lead to a free kick for the Swans 25 yards out. De Guzman took responsibility for the set piece and fired an excellent curling shot into the far corner to pull Laudrup's team back into the game.

However with just 10 minutes remaining, Swansea couldn't find the second goal it needed to restore parity as the Rapids saw out the friendly to win 2-1.

Sporting Kansas City 0-3 Montpellier: French side takes big win over SKC

    187394hp2.jpg

Sporting Kansas City, playing largely with a reserve side, took a 3-0 beating at the hands of French champion Montpellier on Tuesday night.

Gaetan Charbonnier opened the scoring for the French team in the 39th minute after finishing off a cross from Marco Estrada.

Sporting struggled to find the match and a brace after the break from Emanuel Herrera was more than enough to comfortably see out the result for Montpellier.

The first goal came 72nd minute as he slotted home from a tight angle, and the second came from a rebound in stoppage time.

Montreal Impact 1-1 Olympique Lyonnais (2-4 pens): French side wins defensive battle in shootout

    199129hp2.jpg

It took 90 minutes of play plus a penalty shootout for visiting French club Olympique Lyonnais to defeat the Montreal Impact on Tuesday night at Stade Saputo in what ended up being an entertaining friendly.

The two sides battled to a 1-1 draw in regulation time - powered by first half goals by Lyon's Jeremy Pied and Impact rookie Andrew Wenger - but the score could have been much higher as the hosts put on a defensive show in front of the 19,225 in attendance.

The visitors opened the scoring when Pied got himself free from about 25 yards out and unleashed a low drive to Evan Bush's left. The Impact backup goalkeeper couldn't get to the shot, and Lyon found itself up 1-0 at the 28th minute.

It didn't take long for Montreal to draw level, as Wenger fired home the equalizer just 11 minutes later. The first overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft collected a pass from Patrice Bernier at the top of the Lyon area, and in one swift move he spun free from his defender and fired a rocket into the upper left corner of the visitors' goal.

The second half didn't see any scoring, thanks in large part to the play of the Montreal back line and, specifically, Bush. The Impact 'keeper made several excellent saves to keep his side in the match, and at the other end Lyon was lucky that substitute Eduardo Sebrango didn't grab a goal for the home side on the counter.

With the match deadlocked, the penalty shootout looked like it was going to be over in short order as Lyon jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first three kicks. Montreal converted a couple of kicks in a row to make it interesting, but the hole was too big to dig out of, and the visitors ultimately prevailed 4-2 in the shootout.

Montreal next faces the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at Stade Saputo in MLS play.

Columbus Crew 2-1 Stoke City: Crew home grown players seal friendly win

    199127hp2.jpg

The Columbus Crew scored a home victory over Premier League opposition Tuesday night, defeating Stoke City 2-1 in a friendly at Crew Stadium.

Stoke got on the board first in the 23rd minute when Ryan Shotton's cross found Jon Walters, who opened the scoring with a header.

The Crew turned the tables in the game's final 20 minutes, thanks to two home grown players. First, Aaron Horton scored in the 71st minute, then Ben Speas scored with only minutes left off a deflected cross to give Columbus the win.

Pique open to future China move

    191767hp2.jpg

Gerard Pique has revealed he would consider plying his trade in China one day, but for now he is perfectly happy at Barcelona.

The Spain international is currently on holiday in the republic and admits he has been quite taken with the country and its inhabitants.

“I’m very happy playing for a team like Barca," Pique explained during a Q&A session with fans on Chinese website Tencent Weibo.

"But, as a professional player, my future has a lot of possibilities. I really like China, I’ve had a marvellous time here ... "

Pique also added that his two closest friends in the Blaugrana dressing room are Carles Puyol and Cesc Fabregas.

“Puyol takes care of me like an older brother would; he explains football to me," the former Manchester United man enthused. "Our friendship goes well beyond being just teammates: we often eat together.

"When it comes to Cesc, we’ve known each other since we were nine years old. We don’t keep secrets from each other; we’re really good friends."

Pique, who played his part in Spain's Euro 2012 success, returned to Camp Nou from Old Trafford in 2008.

Liverpool agrees 13.5 million pound fee with Swansea for Joe Allen

    199119hp2.jpg

Liverpool is set to complete the signing of Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen after the two clubs agreed a 13.5 million pound fee, Goal.com has learned.

Earlier this month Goal.com revealed Brendan Rodgers was ready to make signing the 22-year-old a priority after securing the services of Fabio Borini, who is expected to make his debut against his old club Roma in a showpiece friendly at Boston's Fenway Park on Wednesday.

Allen proved integral part of Swansea's impressive debut Premier League season, making 36 appearances and his impressive performances helped him secure a place in Stuart Pearce's Team GB squad, which takes on Senegal at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The Welsh club ignored the contractual clause agreed when Rodgers moved to Merseyside, which was designed to ensure that no Swans players could be signed by Liverpool for a minimum of 12 months.

Swansea had hoped to command a fee of 15 million pounds, which would have activated Allen's release clause, but has agreed to a slightly lower valuation following last week's arrival of Spanish midfielder Michu from Rayo Vallecano in a deal worth 2 million pounds.

Liverpool hopes to finalize the transfer before the end of this week, ahead of its friendly with Tottenham in Baltimore. Gylfi Sigurdsson, who earlier this month snubbed a reunion with Rodgers, is expected to feature for Andre Villas-Boas' side.

Meanwhile, Goal.com understands that Liverpool's attempts to sign Clint Dempsey remain at an impasse, with Fulham reluctant to part company with last season's top goalscorer.

Rodgers last week confirmed Liverpool's interest in the American, who has a year remaining on his contract with the west Londoners, but insisted that only initial enquiries had been made.

He also intends to trim his squad ahead of the new season with goalkeeper Alexander Doni expected to secure a return to his native Brazil after being deemed surplus to requirements following just one season and a solitary senior appearance.

The 32-year-old, who arrived from Roma on a free transfer last summer, was omitted from Liverpool's squad for its tour of the United States due to personal reasons, but with Fenway Sports Group looking to trim their excessive wage bill, his future lies away from Anfield

Remy: If Marseille wants to sell me, there's nothing I can do about it

    173875hp2.jpg

Loic Remy has conceded that his destiny lies in the hands of Olympique de Marseille, having acknowledged it will be the club which ultimately decides whether he stays at the Stade Velodrome.

The Ligue 1 outfit is in financial trouble and sporting director Jose Anigo has already admitted that it must sell before they can buy this summer, prompting speculation that the club could look to cash in on the sought-after forward.

"I am contracted to Marseille but if the club wants to sell me, there is not much I can do about it," the France international told Sky Sports.

"The transfer window closes on Aug. 31, so there is plenty of time [for something to happen]."

Remy, who has been capped 17 times by his country, recently returned to training after missing Euro 2012 because of a thigh injury.

Thierry Henry and Landon Donovan are excited to see Tim Cahill in MLS

    199108hp2.jpg

PHILADELPHIA -- Thierry Henry has confirmed that Tim Cahill will join the New York Red Bulls if he passes his medical.

The legendary forward spoke glowingly about his future teammate at a Major League Soccer press conference for Wednesday's All-Star game.

“Talking about Tim Cahill, he’s going to be great," Henry said. "We’re going to have to wait for him to go through the medical. He’s going to be a great asset for us and also for the league."

New York paid a nominal fee reported to be around 1 million pounds to acquire the Australian international from Everton. While Cahill showed signs of decline last season, only scoring two goals, Henry believes that the Red Bulls newest Designated Player still has plenty in the tank.

“If you saw the guy play the way he plays, I love the commitment and I always loved his commitment," Henry explained.

"He’s great in the box, his headers are unbelievable. He fights back to the net and his football IQ is great also. Hopefully that can be a plus for us.”

Fellow MLS All-Star Landon Donovan also reflected on his former Everton teammate's decision to come to North America, joking that he wished Cahill joined the Los Angeles Galaxy instead of New York.

“I didn’t speak to Tim about this particularly. I would have preferred to have him in LA but it’s a great opportunity for him and fingers crossed everything works out for him," Donovan stated. "He always spoke very fondly of our league.”

Donovan also said that many would be surprised how many European players ask about playing in MLS.

"Most players and their families enjoy the prospect of living in America," said Donovan. “There are a lot of pluses to playing here, and now when the league has made the sort of financial commitments they have made to players it sweetens the pot even more.”

Beckham to play 'small part' in Olympic opening ceremony

    185746hp2.jpg

Former England captain David Beckham has revealed that he will play a "small part" in the Olympic Games opening ceremony following his omission from the Team GB football squad.

The LA Galaxy midfielder was controversially left out of Stuart Pearce's 18-man team for the Games but has now confirmed that he will continue to be involved in London.

Beckham was part of the successful bid team seven years ago and described how grateful he remains to Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games, for giving him a part to play.

"It's amazing to see," Beckham told ITV. "To be involved in the bid team that got the Olympics to London is something I feel very proud about.

"[I will have] some kind of role in the opening ceremony which I am honored to be involved in because obviously I was involved in the start of this process seven years ago.

"For it to all come to life now, and to see the Olympic Park built and all the athletes start to arrive is exciting.

"I'm privileged to still be involved in this. I was involved seven years ago [in bringing the Games to London] and Seb [Coe] has kept me involved since then. I feel very honored with that."

Beckham, now 37, has won more England caps than any other outfield player and captained his country between 2000 and 2006.
