David Gold hopeful Carroll will stay at West Ham for entire season

    207013hp2.jpg

West Ham chairman David Gold remains hopeful over retaining Andy Carroll for the entirety of his season-long loan at the club.

The 23-year-old striker is with the Hammers on a season-long deal after failing to find his feet at parent club Liverpool, but the terms of the agreement has been described as "confidential", with speculation growing that the Anfield club could recall him in January after failing to bring in a replacement on transfer deadline day.

Carroll got off to a flying start for his new team, proving a constant threat to the Fulham defense in West Ham’s 3-0 win on Saturday, before being withdrawn with a hamstring injury.

And with the exact details of the striker's loan agreement subject to a confidentiality agreement, Gold has revealed on Twitter he is hopeful that Carroll will remain at Upton Park for the rest of the season.

"The exact terms of AC [Andy Carroll's] year-long loan deal is subject to a confidentially agreement but we are hopeful he will be with us the whole season," he tweeted.

Carroll was linked with a move to former club Newcastle United throughout the summer, but with West Ham stealing in in the latter stages of the transfer window, the London side could be looking to strike a permanent deal with Liverpool to keep the England international at Upton Park after his loan deal expires.

Manchester United skipper Vidic impressed by Van Persie

    207320hp2.jpg

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has been impressed by new signing Robin van Persie's start to life at Old Trafford.

The Dutch striker moved to the Red Devils in a £24 million summer deal from Arsenal and has produced a blistering start to his United career, netting four times in only two starts.

The latest goals came as he rescued his new club from what looked set to be a shock defeat against Southampton on Sunday, hauling them to a 3-2 victory, scoring all three of his side's goals despite missing a penalty in the process.

"He has scored three, he had a great game and he helped us through this difficult game," the Serbian defender told the Daily Mirror of Van Persie.

"He is a fighter. He is not scared to play a hard game as well. This is important if you want be a top goalscorer [at United].

"I think obviously, when you are a good player it is easier to adapt, but I think as well that his desire to score goals plays a big part. When you have a forward who is always looking to score a goal and is hungry to get goals, he is going to get a goal."

The diversity of Van Persie's hat trick against the Saints represented just how lethal the striker can be from a whole range of positions and Vidic highlighted one key aspect of his play.

"Robin has good movement which is most important," the center back observed.

"He is always trying quickly to turn to the goal so that he can have the advantage. He is good at that and obviously I think he has shown us where he is feeding - in the box. He is top class."

Sunday was also a landmark 1000th league game in charge of United for Sir Alex Ferguson and Vidic was quick to pay tribute to his manager's ability to tailor his approach to each individual player.

"He really is a person who knows how to deal with people. This is a very important thing - how to deal with the players and what to expect from individuals," he enthused.

"I think he has the approach for every player. You cannot be the same with every player and he knows the way to get the best out of the players.

"He is an inspiration for us. When you look at his 25 years [in charge of the club] you see that every year he has that desire, that hunger to win the games. That positive energy he has, he has sent it to us. He has set up that mentality in the dressing room.

Hazard has 'everything', says Chelsea favorite Zola

    207066hp2.jpg

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola believes Eden Hazard has "everything" required to become one of the Blues' best players.

The Belgian has taken to the Premier League in impressive fashion, scoring once and racking up an incredible six assists in just three top-flight matches.

When asked who he thought were title contenders, Zola told Gazetta Dello Sport: "Chelsea and the two Manchester clubs."

"Hazard has integrated well into Chelsea's team, people are already comparing him to myself. He has everything; technique, personality, goal-scoring instincts and imagination."

Zola was appointed Watford manager this summer after the Pozzo family's takeover, and the former West Ham boss insists he will be given time to bring success to Vicarage Road.

He added: "[I joined] for two reasons: England and the project. My family wanted to come here, we have always been very comfortable. I like the ideas of [Giampaolo] Pozzo. He wants to create another Udinese here in England.

"They have asked me for a season of adjustment. We will aim for a place on the play-offs and promotion next season."

The 46-year-old also challenged Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli to keep improving, after his fine Euro 2012 performances for Italy.

He claimed: "Balotelli depends on Balotelli. The European Championships proved he can be a champion, but he can still do better."

Hulk: Zenit deal came as a surprise to me

    171650hp2.jpg

Hulk has voiced his delight with his transfer from Porto to Zenit St Petersburg, but added that the move came as a bit of a surprise to him.

The Brazil international had repeatedly stressed that he was happy with life at the Portuguese giants and was ready to stay at Estadio do Dragao.

However, he opted to open talks with Zenit after his agent informed him that both clubs had reached an agreement over a transfer fee.

"I wasn't expecting this. After Saturday's game I said I would help Porto win a third title in a row. Suddenly my agent rang to say a deal was done," Hulk was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

"I had no reasons to leave, but my agent called me and told that Porto and Zenit have reached a deal. This will be good for me, Porto and Zenit.

"This is another victory, yet another important step in my life. But I must say how grateful I am to Porto for opening the door to Europe. I was very happy in Portugal.

"I want to be happy at Zenit and in Russia as well. I want to keep moving in the same direction: winning matches and many titles as I did with Porto."

The 26-year-old has inked a contract with Zenit until the summer of 2017.

PSG will not move for Cristiano Ronaldo, says Leonardo

    206718hp2.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has stressed that the Ligue 1 giant has no intention to make a move for Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese forward stated on Sunday that he is unhappy at the Santiago Bernabeu, fuelling speculation about a potential transfer away from the Spanish capital.

With the French transfer window open until Sept. 4, PSG still has the opportunity to make a late swoop for Ronaldo, but Leonardo has now made it clear that it has no such plans.

"We have never even thought about making a move for Cristiano Ronaldo," Leonardo stated to RAC1.

"When we want a player, we talk directly to the club. This has not been the case. PSG have not been in touch with anyone from Real Madrid.

"We are very pleased with what we have achieved in the transfer market this summer."

The 27-year-old attacker has a contract with Madrid until June 2015.

:shocked:Athletic Bilbao consider legal action against Bayern Munich over Javi Martinez

    207266hp2.jpg

Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia has revealed that the Basque side could take legal action against Bayern Munich in the wake of the transfer of Javi Martinez to the Bundesliga giants.

The midfielder underwent a medical with the Germans without permission from his club, before completing his move the following day, and the Basque side are not amused with die Roten's behavior.

"We are looking into the possibilities of taking legal action against Bayern Munich," Urrutia stated at a press conference.

"Javi Martinez had a valid contract with us, which was specifically protected by the rules and regulations of world football's governing body, FIFA."

Bayern Munich eventually met the player's 40 million euros buy-out clause to lure the Spain international away from Bilbao and the 24-year-old made his official Bayern debut at the weekend in the 6-1 Bundesliga win over Stuttgart.

Fernando Torres eyes 'magical season' with Chelsea

    204819hp2.jpg

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is aiming to put last year's goal scoring problems behind him and return to his best in the club's quest for trophies as he eyes a "magic season".

The Spaniard is the only out and out striker left at the club after Didier Drogba's departure to Chinese side, Shanghai Shenhua. And having been reassured as to his Chelsea future following a substitute's role in the Champions League final, Torres has started the new campaign with a bang, netting twice in three games.

The former Liverpool man conceded he has more responsibility on his shoulders with Drogba's departure, but is aiming for a return to his Anfield form which saw him revered as one of the world's best strikers.

Torres told Chelsea Magazine, "Didier is not here anymore so there is more responsibility for me and I'm ready for the challenge.

"Hopefully, everything is going to be OK and we will work hard.

"Now I am looking for new personal targets, which is to get as many goals as possible and, hopefully, I will score more than I did in my best season at Liverpool.

"We have the squad to do that and we have five more trophies to play for, so it could be a magic season."

The Euro 2012 golden boot winner was criticized at times last season for failing to take up goal scoring positions, but after his first full season at the club, insists he now knows his role within the Chelsea team.

"For me, the striker has to be in the box," Torres stated.

"Once you have to run into the channel you have lost your position. So I try to spend more time in the box and leave that job for the wingers. Obviously when a striker goes to the channels, the opposite winger has to come inside and finish as a striker.

"This is the job – we have to make sure we are all working in the same way. But the striker has to be in the middle and the wingers go into the channels. These are the basics of football."

And the 28-year-old admits that following the club's lavish summer outlay on stars such as Eden Hazard and Oscar, trophies are a realistic target should he fire on all cylinders.

He added: "In my first full season we got two trophies, which is the thing I was looking for when I came.

"But now I have more objectives, more personal targets and this season is very important for me. We have the chance to win more trophies this season.

"I think all the fans are excited about the league again, after a couple of years of not winning the trophy, so I think it’s a good time, especially me, to give something back to the fans."

Chairman Hill-Wood: ‘Wenger’s had a bigger impact on Arsenal than Sir Alex Ferguson has on Manchester United’

    185913hp2.jpg

Arsene Wenger's impact on Arsenal is greater than his managerial counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson’s at Manchester United, according to club chairman Peter Hill-Wood.

The 76-year-old praised the impact of the Frenchman since his arrival in north London in 1996, insisting that the club has been “revolutionized” under his stewardship.“You occasionally hear rumors of him going somewhere. I do not think that is likely to happen. He’s very happy where he is,” Hill-Wood told the London Evening Standard.

“He has a very good job in that we don’t interfere with him. We agree with most of the things he says and he agrees with most of the things we say. I have seen some really successful Arsenal managers but Arsene has revolutionized the club.

“I would say he has been a bigger influence than Alex Ferguson on Manchester United in the way he has changed the traditions of the club and the outlook of the Premiership.”

The Gunners have gone seven years without winning any silverware – the 2005 FA Cup their last triumph – and, while he understands the supporters’ concerns, abuse directed towards Wenger from the stands has “disgusted” Hill-Wood.“What those fans shouted did not influence me one little bit,” he added. “I was disgusted to hear them because Arsene’s been absolutely outstanding. He is still outstanding."

A commonly used reason behind Arsenal’s recent failure in competitions over the past few years has been the sacking of David Dein as Arsenal’s vice-chairman back in 2007, but Hill-Wood was quick to dismiss the move had any detrimental effect on the club or staff.

Hill-Wood insisted: “I don’t think David Dein’s departure has impacted on Arsene at all.
“Arsene has a very good relationship with Ivan [Gazidis, the chief executive reportedly on £2m a year] and it’s very business-like. He and Arsene get on very well.”

Javi Martinez is a nice guy, says Bayern youngster Weiser

    198232hp2.jpg

Bayern Munich youngster Mitchell Weiser has given the first indication as to what Javi Martinez is like just a few days into his Bundesliga career.

The 18-year-old midfielder spoke after the Bavarians' crushing 6-1 victory over Stuttgart on Sunday, and was full of praise for his Spanish teammate calling him a 'nice guy'.

“He's a very nice, quiet guy," Weiser told Goal.com. "I haven't spoken with him that much, but he seems very personable."The former Koln man also explained his disappointment at not making a start for Jupp Heynckes' side yet, but also commented on understanding his coach's decision.

“Of course I would like to play,” he said. “But with a squad such as ours, you have to expect, as a young player, that you won't always be in the squad. It is a shame, but I can accept it.
“Yes [the boss has spoken to me]. Martinez has come in, Franck [Ribery] has recovered from injury, I really don't have much to say on it. I think it explains itself.”

Weiser signed for the Allianz Arena side in June, having made just one senior appearance for the Billy Goats last term.

Messi: Don't ask me about Ronaldo

    207808hp2.jpg

Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo is in the midst of what some may refer to as a breakdown, but his biggest rival on the pitch doesn't want to hear about it.

Ronaldo made the shocking claim that he was unhappy with his club after refusing to celebrate his 149th and 150th goals for Los Blancos in a win over Granada on Sunday. It is unclear if the superstar is upset about his current contract situation or perhaps not winning UEFA's best player award.

Whatever the case, Lionel Messi doesn't wish to speculate.

"I don't have to answer this kind of questions. You shouldn't ask me about Cristiano," the Barcelona player said Tuesday ahead of Argentina's World Cup Qualifier against Paraguay. "It has nothing to do with me and I shouldn't be answering questions about it."

Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, said in a statement Monday that he knows the reason for Ronaldo's discontent but that he will leave it to his 27-year-old client to disclose that information.

Ronaldo and Messi have been linked as the top two players in the world for years, but neither was chosen as Europe's top performer in 2012 when the award was announced last week. Messi's Barca teammate Andres Iniesta took home the trophy after helping Spain win the European Championship.

"It's nothing to do with Iniesta," said Ronaldo, who is training with Portugal ahead of World Cup Qualifiers. "I won't talk about this anymore and I will concentrate on Portugal for now. There are more important things."

Ronaldo joined Madrid from Manchester United for $131 million in 2009, signing a contract that keeps him with the club until 2015. Madrid refused comment on Ronaldo's comments when contacted by Goal.com over the weekend.

Roberto Carlos: Ronaldo is sad because he did not win the UEFA best player award

    58982hp2.jpg

Former Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo is upset because he did not win UEFA's Best Player Award last week.

The trophy for the best player in Europe was awarded to Andres Iniesta at a ceremony in Monaco last Friday, and the one-time Los Blancos fullback has insisted that the Portuguese superstar is disillusioned with life in Spain because of the snub.

“I think Cristiano is annoyed because of the European best player award that Iniesta won,” he told Radio Marca. “I would tell Cristiano to just play like he knows how. He may not want to celebrate, but the fans still will.”

When asked about compatriot Kaka's current uncertain situation at the club, Carlos said: “The important thing is to keep working hard and training well. It's imperative that he keeps his good image. Kaka can then, if [he] wants, leave with his head held high.”

The World Cup-winning Brazil international, who is now an adviser at Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, also spoke about the signing of Lassana Diarra, who joined the club during the summer transfer window.

“I really do not know how much we paid for Lass, but all I can say is that Real Madrid have been brilliant in facilitating his departure. It is going to be a great experience for the player,” he explained.

El Shaarawy: Ibrahimovic wasn't easy to play with

    199276hp2.jpg

AC Milan forward Stephan El Shaarawy says that former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic was 'never easy to play with'.

The 19-year-old striker has spilled the beans in an interview with French magazine Max, saying he never had a personable relationship with Ibrahimovic, was picked on by Gennaro Gattuso and explains the love life of a modern day footballer.

“To tell you the truth, it was never easy playing with Ibrahimovic. You have to know how to handle him," he said. "Really, what you needed to do was just pass him the ball, or else he'd scream at you, or just play tricks on you afterwards.”Regarding Gattuso, the young Italy international explained some about how another of his teammates treated him.

“Gattuso on the other hand, hated my eyebrows," he said. "The first time he saw that I trimmed them, he became furious and told me that all I needed to think about was playing and getting better at football.

“Despite this, I'll miss him very much. Also when I first got to [Milan's training ground] Milanello, they told me I needed to shave my hair, but one Milan player came to my defense and said 'If [Marek] Hamsik, Neymar and [Djibril] Cisse have that hair, then let him have it too', and so it died down after that.”

The former Genoa man also went on to explain about his love life, saying: “The moment I got to Serie A, my sex life multiplied by 10. I use Facebook to pick up all my women. You find so much stuff on the internet.

“People from outside the football world see footballers and think 'how can they be so arrogant?' It has been hard for me to keep my feet on the ground this past year, but fortunately I have my father to help me.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain: England will approach Moldova as if it was Brazil

    191635hp2.jpg

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has insisted England will not take Moldova lightly as they kick off their World Cup 2014 qualification campaign.

Moldova currently sits 137th in FIFA’s world rankings but Oxlade-Chamberlain has stressed the Three Lions are keen to avoid any complacency when they travel to face Ion Caras’ charges on Friday.

"We will approach the game in the same way whether we are playing Brazil or Moldova,” he told reporters. "We will look to win the game and play it in the right way. I will have to wait and see how it's going to go but it's the international stage and it's tough."

The Arsenal youngster also admitted he was surprised at the opportunities handed to him by Roy Hodgson in Euro 2012 and is looking to push on and continue to improve for his country in the lead up to the Brazil-based tournament.

"I always want to play. I didn't think I would be involved as much as I was at the Euros,” he added. “It was great to learn from the likes of Steven Gerrard and it was a great experience for me. When you do start games, you want to keep on playing and if you didn't, there would be something wrong.

"The manager gives a player like me the freedom to add flair to the game. He puts his trust in us and that's really good as we can express ourselves. People possess different qualities and you have to adapt. I have to make sure I am ready if I get the chance. We must never rest on our laurels. I have to keep working hard at Arsenal otherwise I will not be back in these squads."

    Ronaldo: 'Sadness' Not About Money

    cristianoronaldonon-celeb20120902_576x324.jpg

Cristiano Ronaldo has rejected suggestions that he is "sad" on a professional level because he is seeking more money at Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, 27, refused to celebrate either of his two goals in the Spanish champions' victory over Granada at the weekend and said after the game: "I am sad, and the people at the club know about it. It's about professional issues. I can't say any more."

The Spanish media has since suggested a combination of more money and "more love" from Real are required to lift the Portugal international's spirits. However, in a statement released via Twitter on Tuesay, Ronaldo said: "That I am feeling sad and have expressed this sadness has created a huge stir. I am accused of wanting more money, but one day it will be shown that this is not the case.

"At this point, I just want to guarantee to the Real Madrid fans that my motivation, dedication, commitment and desire to win all competitions will not be affected."I have too much respect for myself and for Real Madrid to ever give less to the club than all I am capable of. Abrazos (hugs) to all madridistas."

Ronaldo, who reportedly earns £200,000-a-week, signed for Real from Manchester United in 2009 for £80 million and has since scored over 100 La Liga goals for the club.

Hulk and Witsel will make Zenit competitive in Champions League, declares Criscito

    188772hp2.jpg

Domenico Criscito believes that the signings of Hulk and Axel Witsel will make Zenit St Petersburg a competitive force in the Champions League this season.

The reigning Russian champions completed the capture of the former Porto and Benfica men for a reported 80 million euros and the Italian is sure that they will improve the team greatly.

"We had a great team and after the last two purchases [Hulk and Witsel] we are competitive enough to win in Europe," Criscito stated to Sky Sport 24.

"We will try to pass through the groups and go further in the Champions League. The attack is of great quality with Hulk, [Aleksandr] Kerzhakov and Danny who will soon return."

Criscito was originally selected in Cesare Prandelli's Italy squad for Euro 2012 but was dropped after being investigated as part of the match-fixing scandal that rocked Italian football.

But the defender now has his eyes on a return to the Azzurri after being cleared of any involvement.

"I think to do well on the field, I started very well with Zenit and hope to be back in the national team but I have not heard from anyone," he added.
