Sampdoria 0-0 Milan: Rossoneri lack inspiration in tame stalemate

    246287hp2.jpg

A closely fought match between Sampdoria and Milan ended in stalemate in Geneva, as both sides fell victim to their own wastefulness and shared the spoils.

Youthful vibrancy seemed to be the aim for Milan, as M'Baye Niang was given his first Serie A start for the Rossoneri, with the 18-year-old Frenchman partnering Stephane El Shaarawy and Bojan Krkic in attack.

After a composed start, Lorenzo De Silvestre fired the first warning shot of the game in the sixth minute, unleashing a venomous drive at Cristian Abbiati in the Milan net. The veteran shot-stopper got down well to beat the strike away from danger, athletically preventing his side from conceding an early goal. The 35-year old was called upon again minutes later, turning two more Sampdorian efforts from Eder over the bar, as the home side pressed.

In the 20th minute, Daniele Gastaldello found himself kicking Abbiati's post in frustration, after the Sampdoria defender failed to turn a header home, from what looked like a somewhat easy opportunity.

Milan's first real chance of the game fell on 33 minutes, mercifully giving the Sampdoria's Sergio Romero something meaningful to do. A long-range Ricardo Montolivo strike was the best effort that the visitors could muster in a sluggish first half performance, as the Rossoneri struggled to impose themselves in Geneva.

Misery for the visitors was compounded just before the break, as Bojan blasted a shot wildly over the bar from 30 yards, and Milan's young forwards looked to be visibly aging as a result of their torrid first half experience. For those in red and black, the referee's halftime whistle was welcomed.

The second half began in a totally different vein to the first, as Romero was forced into action from the off, turning a Niang effort acrobatically over the bar - following a cheeky nutmeg from the Frenchman.

Cristian Zapata almost grabbed a goal for Milan at the wrong end moments later, deflecting a Eder strike just past the post, leaving Abbiati helplessly rooted to the spot, as what had previously been a dull game seemed to turn on its head.

Following Milan's resurgence, the home side held on desperately, counting upon a 61st minute goal-line clearance to deny out-of-sorts Kevin-Prince Boateng from turning home a back post cross, after good work at the line by Niang.

Merely two minutes later, a Mauro Icardi effort beat both Abbiati and the frame of his goal, and with such wastefulness on display, it seemed evident that the match would be heading towards stalemate.

Milan's Robinho was thrown on by Allegri in place of El Shaarawy as a potential catalyst, as the game remained in the balance, but neither side could take their chances.

In the later stages frustration was shared, as neither side could find the back of the net nor the quality to create chances, through goalkeeping brilliance or a sheer lack of quality when it counted, as time petered out.

Young Niang provided a welcome injection of spark and creativity for the visitors, who will need to improve hugely for their next fixture, while Sampdoria snatches another welcome point.

    Mascherano: Malaga scoreline flattered Barcelona

    229182hp2.jpg

Javier Mascherano has claimed that Barcelona's 3-1 victory over Malaga on Sunday flattered the Liga leader.

Goals from Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara handed the Catalans all three points as they extended their lead at the Primera Division summit to 11 points.

However, the Argentina international was quick to applaud Manuel Pellegrini's side for making the match an entertaining spectacle by adopting a positive approach at La Rosaleda.

"Malaga did a good job," Mascherano told reporters. "They played really well. The difference between the two teams was not as big as the score suggested.

"It's exciting to play against teams that want to play football against us and try to play football against us.

"It's fun to play football when the opponents are also trying to score and not just standing and waiting in defense."

The two sides meet again in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinal on Tuesday, and Mascherano warned his Barca teammates to expect another tricky encounter.

"It’s going to be another tough match, it is a two-legged tie so we must be careful and focused."

Tottenham fears losing out on Champions League place again, reveals Parker

    245885hp2.jpg

Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker has revealed that the squad is determined to avoid the mistakes of last season and cement its place in the Champions League next term.

Spurs won just four of their last 13 Premier League matches to allow rival Arsenal to leapfrog them into third place, with Chelsea's surprise success in the elite European competition ensuring that Spurs' fourth-place finish was only good enough for the Europa League.

That run of form is thought to have contributed to Harry Redknapp's dismissal at the end of the season and, speaking to reporters after Tottenham's 0-0 draw at relegation-threatened QPR, Parker revealed the squad will use the memory of last term to avoid a repeat performance under Andre Villas-Boas.

"Maybe what will happen in the past will stand us in good stead," the 32-year-old said.

"That is in everyone’s minds because it’s happened before. I just think we can learn as a squad from missing out and stay strong."The former West Ham midfielder had nothing but praise for ex-boss Redknapp, who is now trying to keep bottom-of-the-table QPR in the Premier League.

"I think the world of Harry. He can have as big an impact as anyone," continued Parker.

"QPR were very resilient, they stuck to a game-plan which they had worked on. They went to Stamford Bridge and won, they got a point from a very good team and they’ve got a result against us.

"With Harry in there, and the way he is, he’s probably going to turn things around and there’s a chance for them."

Villa will stay at Barcelona, says Vilanova

    245602hp2.jpg

Tito Vilanova has insisted that David Villa will not leave Barcelona in January following Sunday's 3-1 Liga victory over Malaga.

The 31-year-old Spain international has featured only fleetingly for the Catalans since returning from a broken leg, and speculation suggested that he was destined for a winter transfer to the Premier League.

But despite not playing in the win at La Rosaleda, his coach was left delighted with his two-goal performance in the Copa del Rey triumph over Cordoba in midweek and felt he displayed his worth to the side's cause.

"David will not leave, we are very happy with him," Vilanova told reporters. "The other night, he scored two good goals.

"It's been a long recovery process, but we know his importance to the team, and we're sure that he will help us."

The Blaugrana set a new record for points gained in the first 19 matches of a Spanish top-flight campaign thanks to goals from Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara.

And Vilanova praised them for showing similar form to that of Pep Guardiola's maiden season in charge.

"We are very pleased, 55 points from a possible 57 is amazing," he added. "Coming here to Malaga, who had only conceded 13 goals before tonight, and score three is great.

"In addition, our performance levels are sky high and that gives me peace of mind. We are playing with the same dynamics of four-five years ago and that helps.

"It will be difficult to maintain this form [for the entire campaign] with the Champions League coming up. Atletico [Madrid] are only 11 points behind and we still have to go there. We must continue. "

Vilanova made his come back in the Barca dugout against Malaga after he underwent surgery to treat his cancer relapse, and he reiterated his gratitude for all the get-well messages he has received.

"I appreciate the outpouring of support [I have received], but I want to be valued for my work, not my disease."

'I don't really care what Chelsea are doing' - Loanee Lukaku enjoying life at West Brom

    212588hp2.jpg

Romelu Lukaku has insisted that he is unconcerned at how parent club Chelsea is faring and has hinted at extending his loan spell with West Brom beyond the end of the current campaign.

The young Belgian has impressed at the Hawthorns, with his two goals against Reading taking his tally to nine for the season from 20 appearances - already 12 more than he managed in the entire 2011-12 season at Chelsea.

Indeed, speaking to reporters after his side's late collapse at the Madejski Stadium, Lukaku confirmed he was looking to stay in the Black Country beyond the end of the current campaign.

"Hopefully after the January window we will be able to start talking about that [staying at West Brom next season]," said the 19-year-old.

"At this time I'm just looking at my own career and West Brom, I don't really care about what Chelsea are doing at the moment."

In Lukaku's absence Chelsea has seen Fernando Torres continue to struggle, with Daniel Sturridge sold to Liverpool, and Demba Ba recruited from Newcastle.

And, the striker went on to describe the positive atmosphere around West Brom, who have been flying high this season under new manager Steve Clarke – a man that Lukaku has cited as helping his adaptation to the Premier League.

"You have to be somewhere where you are connected with the people," explained Lukaku. "You have to be in a good environment. Where I am now is similar to when I was in Anderlecht – nice people who want you to improve, where everyone is open to you.

"That's why I have settled very well here. On the pitch, I want to win. People can be nice to you, but if you don't perform on the pitch, you can fall very quickly.

"I went from two years playing regular football in the Europa League, Champions League, then one year I didn't play [at Chelsea]. So I know football can change very quickly."

Rio Ferdinand: Sir Alex Ferguson has 100 percent confidence in Manchester United's defense

Rio Ferdinand believes that Manchester United retains a strong defensive base despite the criticism he and his defensive teammates have received this season.

Ferdinand played the full 90 minutes as the Red Devils defeated rival Liverpool to maintain a seven-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and was partnered by club captain Nemanja Vidic - who has only recently returned to first-team action after undergoing surgery on his knee.

Injuries have also affected the form and limited the appearances of fellow defenders Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, but the 34-year-old insists boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confidence in his defense, despite conceding 29 goals in just 22 league games this term.

"I think we’ve got players who the manager can put 100 per cent faith in to come in and do jobs," Ferdinand told talkSPORT. "Jonny Evans has done fantastically well when Vidic has been out. Chris Smalling has done well when he has come in and so has Phil Jones.

"We’ve got players who we know that the manager can be confident about putting in and I think that’s more important than anyone one of us as individuals."Ferdinand added that now that Vidic had returned from injury, he expects the team to improve their reliability at the back.

"It’s great to have players of the caliber of Vidic back because he’s a top quality player but when the manager can’t call upon him, or anybody else, the players feel comfortable with anyone that comes in, which is great," he said.

Lampard: Chelsea must emulate away form at Stamford Bridge

    243274hp2.jpg

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has called on his team-mates to bring the form they showed in beating Stoke 4-0 on Saturday back to Stamford Bridge.

Two own goals from Jonathan Walters, an Eden Hazard strike and a Lampard penalty helped Rafael Benitez's side inflict Stoke's first defeat at the Britannia Stadium this season.

But, with the Blues having suffered a 1-0 loss to relegation-threatened local rival QPR in their last game at home, the 34-year-old is keen for his side to maintain momentum.

"At the moment we are a better away team than home team because the results speak for themselves but that has got to change against Southampton on Wednesday," Lampard told the club's official website. "We have to start quicker and get the movement and the passing going like we did at Stoke.

"We can play different ways and we are doing it well away from home, but it is a case of sustaining things when you are attacking - following up the play and trying to play quickly on either side. It is all things we can do and I think people will see us do it now. We have to.

The midfielder went on to say that staying accountable to a certain standard was what the club really needs at this point.

    |I hate the idea of standards dropping and we have been up there a long time trying to win the league, or a bad year was coming second," he said. "The minute you drop your standards too far below then you will settle for that and there is a desire and a determination among the players and the staff, from the squad and the club to keep where we want to be."

Di Maria: Real Madrid needs Ronaldo

    233941hp2.jpg

Angel Di Maria believes it is vital for Real Madrid that Cristiano Ronaldo signs a new contract with the club.

The 27-year-old's current deal with the Blancos expires in two years' time, but his long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu has been thrown under the spotlight following his claim earlier in the season that he was unhappy with life in the capital.

Nevertheless, the Argentine is desperate to see Ronaldo prolong his stay at Madrid beyond 2015, citing that the winger is a player they need to keep if they are to enjoy further success in the future.

"He has to decide," he told reporters. "He still has a contract with the club and truly is a great player - one that Real Madrid needs - so I think it'll make everyone happy if he signed a new contract. But it is his decision."

Di Maria has found playing time harder to come by this season, but insists he is fully fit and ready to fight for his place in the first team again - starting with the first leg of the side's Copa del Rey quarterfinal tie against Valencia.

"I'm feeling so good and working to be at 100 percent," he added.

"I haven't played in the last few games but that's the coach's decision. I can only work day by day and make sure I'm ready to play.

"I think it'll be a really difficult tie. If we don't get a good result at home, we could go out, and Valencia are a really tough team."

Del Bosque: Premier League has aided Spain's success

    244843hp2.jpg

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has acknowledged the importance of the Premier League in the development of Spanish players.

The 62-year-old coach noted the emergence of Cesc Fabregas as a prime example and admits the rigors of English football have provided a valuable education for a number of his squad.

“The departure of Spanish players to other leagues, and especially to the English league, has grown Spanish football and has been good for the national team," he told reporters. “Already we have seen this with the evolution of Cesc Fabregas and this trend is now increasing.

“We have followed everyone in England via television and scouting reports that have come in on all the players. But, I’m very glad to have seen them live and how they all did."

The former Real Madrid boss also addressed the phenomenal form of Swansea striker Michu, after paying a visit to Goodison Park to see the former Rayo Vallecano man in action on Saturday.

Despite scoring 13 times for The Swans this season, Del Bosque admits he will have his work cut out if he is to secure a place in the national side.

“He plays in a position where we also have [Andres] Iniesta, [Juan] Mata and [David] Silva, among others. Those players have been champions of Europe and the world," he added. "But that does not mean we’re ignoring the best performances. It is great that our players are out there.”

Evra: Manchester United not concerned with City

    237772hp2.jpg

Patrice Evra says Manchester United is not worrying about rival Manchester City this season, and the club is focusing only on its own performances.

Roberto Mancini's side currently sits seven points behind United - one less than the margin City hunted down at the end of last season to win its first league title since the 1967-68 campaign.

"This year we are focusing more on ourselves, whereas last year we were more worried about City," he told Canal+. "There was too much focus on what they were going to do in their next game. But this year it's about us. By having a good season, we will become the champions.

"We finished last season with the same number of points as the champions and it was obvious we are stronger than last year given the addition of players like [Robin] Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa."

United has been in fine form in the Premier League this season, winning 18 out of a possible 22 matches and going unbeaten in 10 games since a 1-0 defeat to Norwich on Nov. 17.

    Sevilla sacks coach Michel

    203597hp2.jpg

Michel has been sacked as Sevilla coach following Sunday's 2-0 La Liga loss to Valencia.

The Andalusians have a Copa del Rey tie with Zaragoza in just two days, but the club ran out of patience with the 49-year-old Michel and decided to terminate his contract on Monday.

The former Real Madrid and Spain midfielder was handed their reins at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan last February in the wake of Marcelino's dismissal and guided the side to ninth in the Primera Division in 2011-12.

A run of just six wins in 19 league matches this season, though, including four defeats in the last five games, has seen Sevilla hover just six points above the relegation zone.

Reports in Spain suggest that Unai Emery, who is currently out of work after being sacked by Spartak Moscow in November, will be appointed as Michel's successor in the next few days.

Thiago Silva ruled out for three weeks due to thigh injury

    224069hp2.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain center back Thiago Silva will be out of action for at least three weeks due to a thigh muscle injury he picked up during the match against Ajaccio on Friday.

The Brazil international was forced off against the Corsicans after 57 minutes, and is not likely to return to match action until the Feb. 8 clash with Bastia.

"The MRI that was performed today confirms a femoral biceps injury. He will be unavailable for an estimated three weeks at the minimum," a statement on the PSG's official website confirmed.

Friday's 0-0 draw with Ajaccio saw Les Parisiens concede the top spot in Ligue 1 to Olympique Lyonnais, which trails by two points but has a league-best plus-24 goal differential.

Reus: Messi is an example to follow

    220603hp2.jpg

Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus has hailed Barcelona star Lionel Messi for putting in quality performances on a regular basis.

The Bundesliga champion slipped 12 points behind Bayern Munich this season, and the former Gladbach man says his side must emulate the Argentine's consistency.

"Messi is a good example," the 23-year-old told Kicker. "He has had great games and scores in La Liga on a regular basis. We have to do the same, however, we weren't able to do that every week. We aren't machines and therefore, we do make mistakes.

"We do know that we didn't have the best first half of the season. But complaining and pondering would not be appropriate in this situation."

Dortmund face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League round of the 16, and while Reus is wary of the threat the Ukrainians pose, he believes the opponent would have preferred to draw another team instead.

"It goes down to -20 degrees occasionally there, doesn't it? Of course they're a difficult opponent. On the other hand, they probably wished for any team but Dortmund for their next fixture.

"We have earned a lot of respect [in Europe]."

Macheda willing to be patient over Manchester United future

Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has admitted that if he wants to have a future at the club he will have to be patient and bide his time for a chance.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side currently sits at the top of the Premier League table with 55 points from 22 games so far this season, seven ahead of local rivals and reigning champions Manchester City. The arrival of Robin van Persie from Arsenal in the summer has played a large part in that lead, with the Dutchman grabbing his 17th league goal of the campaign against Liverpool on Sunday.

The move pushed the 21-year-old Macheda even further down the depth chart, though, and he accepts that competition for places in the starting XI is fierce, even if he feels he has time on his side still to make an impression.

"I have to push myself and train hard every day," Macheda told the club's official website. "Of course, in front of me, I've got top, top players like Robin, Wayne [Rooney]; Chicha [Javier Hernandez] and Welbz [Danny Welbeck] as well. It's hard for me to get in the first team but I have to train hard for myself for the future. I'm still only young."

Macheda has been sent out on loan to Sampdoria in Italy and QPR over the past two seasons, but shortly after his arrival at both clubs they changed their managers, resulting in less playing time for the 21-year-old. Macheda believes the next short-term spell away from Old Trafford he has will be a success.

"I had very bad luck with the loans but I think it helped me a lot. I think it helped me to gain experience in general," Macheda said. "If I go out again on loan, I'm sure I will do well. I'd look forward to getting playing time because maybe I made some mistakes but now I understand, I will take the chances I will have."

Remy a dangerous addition to Newcastle's French revolution

The ever-growing French contingent at St James’ Park is set to be added to imminently as Newcastle United are poised to sign Olympique de Marseille striker Loic Remy for a fee expected to be in the region of 10.2 million euros.

Manager Alan Pardew has found the Ligue 1 market a profitable hunting ground over the last 18 months, as he has been able to pick up international-class players at appealing prices, and in forward Remy he may just have made another great coup.

Comparisons have been made between the 26-year-old and the legendary Thierry Henry, but these are not necessarily fair. While it is true that Remy is an athletic forward player capable of operating in the wide areas, his game does not especially resemble that of the ex-Arsenal hero.
He is not quite as technically gifted and nor is he quite the killer marksman Henry was for the Gunners, yet the Rhone-born attacker can boast his aerial ability as a strength, which was never a strong suit for France’s all-time record scorer. What he lacks in grace, he makes up for in muscle.

In truth, Remy’s career has never quite taken off as it might. He was overshadowed as he broke into Olympique Lyonnais first team by the likes of Karim Benzema and Hatem Ben Arfa, who were emerging at the same time, and as a result, he would never score a league goal for Lyon.

A spell at Nice followed, where he would live up to his billing as the club’s record signing, and despite attempts from Lyon to regain his services, it was a move to Marseille that really pushed Remy into the limelight.

At Stade Velodrome he started to be used as a center forward on a more regular basis, although this almost came by chance due to a lack of form on the part of his team-mates. Nevertheless, playing through the middle best suited Remy’s skillset - and it still does.

Last term he displayed devastating form by scoring 22 goals in all competitions, the vast majority of which came in the second half of the campaign. By some distance this was his most prolific season, yet it would have an unhappy ending as injury prevented him from taking his place in Laurent Blanc's Euro 2012 squad, to which he would surely have added quality and another attacking dimension, having scored three times in his previous six outings for les Bleus.

But missing the summer’s European Championship was only the beginning of a troubling six-month period for the attacker. The niggles that prevented him from playing in Poland and Ukraine persisted into the early part of this campaign, and though he has theoretically been fit since mid-August, he has yet to find his best level in terms of his physical shape or his match sharpness.

As a result, he has been toiling. Remy has registered only three times all season for OM, with two goals coming in a one-sided Europa League fixture against AEL Limassol and the other arriving as a meager consolation as les Phoceens were humbled 4-1 by Lyon at home.

While a change will undoubtedly help to refresh the striker, Newcastle fans should not expect to see the best of the 17-time capped France international until he has regained his sharpness and his confidence. As such, he may be something of a long-term investment to replace Demba Ba as the vanguard of its offense, which could be deemed a risky policy given the club’s recent struggles.

In addition, by making this signing, Newcastle could be inadvertently weakening its position to sign another Ligue 1 prospect in the form of Toulouse’s Moussa Sissoko. Marseille are also interested in the powerful midfielder, and L’Equipe suggested the club will use the money earned from the Remy deal to help secure his services ahead of the Magpies and Monaco.

Pardew, however, has an excellent record in the French market, and he is likely to see this gamble as providing value. If he can extract the best from Remy, he will have himself a dangerous centerpiece to his attack, and a player worth at least twice as much in the English market as his reported purchase fee.

Di Maria: Real Madrid treated unfairly by referees

    241770hp2.jpg

Angel Di Maria believes that Real Madrid is being treated unfairly by referees this season and that harsh decisions have tended to go against the Spanish power.

The Santiago Bernabeu side has already received three red cards in as many games in 2013, and Di Maria believes that the officials use different standards when Los Blancos are involved.

"The media knows more than anyone else that referees make mistakes and make confusing decisions," Di Maria said at a press conference. "I have seen some dismissals that would not have been red cards for our rivals, yet they were red cards for us. These things happen, but sometimes I get the impression that these errors do not happen by mistake."

The Argentina international then went on to say that Madrid's focus is on the Copa del Rey and Champions League, with the club falling to a seemingly insurmountable 18 points behind La Liga leader Barcelona in the race for the league title.

"Last year the league was our main focus, but we have now set our sights on the Copa and Champions League. We want to win both trophies," Di Maria said.

Cristiano Ronaldo: I want to see out my contract at Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that he wants to see out his contract with Real Madrid amid rumors that Paris Saint-Germain is interested in signing the Portugal international.

The 27-year-old, who arrived at Santiago Bernabeu from Manchester United in the summer of 2009, has a contract with the Blancos until June 2015, and he says he has no intention of leaving the Spanish champions any time soon.

"I want to see out my contract at Real Madrid. I’m very clear about that. After that, well, I don’t know what will happen in the future," the prolific attacker told FIFA.com.

In the same interview, Ronaldo was also quick to defend head coach Jose Mourinho against recent criticism, and stressed that the former Inter boss deserves more credit.

"People do protest and you have to respect that, though I think they should be a bit patient with him [Mourinho]. To me it’s very clear that Mourinho always wants what’s best for the club and will fight to the death to defend it," Ronaldo explained.

"All of us who work alongside him know that, but you’ve still got to show respect for the fans’ opinion. In my view he’s the best coach in the world, he’s got loads of experience and has won everything there is to win."

Like Mourinho, Ronaldo has been surrounded by controversy over the years, but the attacker has learned to live with it.

"I don’t know [why I'm surrounded by controversy]. I can’t answer that question with total certainty, because it’s something I’ve asked myself too. People who know me and those who’ve played alongside me know what kind of a guy I am," Ronaldo stated.

He added, "Those who don’t know me can say and think whatever they want. I’m able to respect those who criticize me, because I know they’ve got the wrong idea about me. You just have to learn to live with it because criticism is part of life for every footballer, for everybody in fact."

Ronaldo has been in fine form for Madrid this term, netting 28 goals in as many official games. He was runner-up to Barcelona star Lionel Messi in the Ballon d'Or last week.

Juventus will not make any big signings in January, says Marotta

Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta has made it clear that the club does not plan to make any big signings in the January transfer window.

The Turin side has been linked with a number of strikers in the past few weeks, such as Didier Drogba and Fernando Llorente, as it aims to add some more firepower to the squad, but Marotta has stressed that the right opportunity has yet to come along this winter.

"I expect the January window to close without any big signings. The right opportunity has not presented itself to Juventus," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia. "We are obviously looking around and evaluating the situation of certain players, but our main objective at the moment is to recuperate injured players and those who will play at the [African Cup of Nations]."

Marotta also took the time to discuss Juventus' title chances following the recent loss to Sampdoria and draw with Parma, and stressed that it's impossible to win all games. Juventus currently holds a three-point lead over second-placed Lazio.

"There's no reason to be pessimistic. We should remain realistic," Marotta said. "Serie A is a bit like the Giro d'Italia. You simply cannot win every stage. It's the final standings that really matter."

Moratti wants Sneijder decision over Galatasaray move by end of Monday

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has urged Wesley Sneijder to make a decision on his future by the end of Monday as Galatasaray is desperate to add the out-of-favor Netherlands international to its squad.

The Istanbul giant announced over the weekend that it has agreed terms with the Nerazzurri over a winter move, but added that the club is still in talks with the creative midfielder over personal terms. Sneijder stated on Saturday evening that he is in no rush to make a final decision on his future, but Moratti is now running out of patience and has told the Dutchman to make up his mind.

"We want an answer by the end of the day. It would be professional from him if he made a decision shortly," Moratti said.

Nevertheless, despite Moratti's latest comments, Sneijder is unlikely to be rushed into making a decision on his future. The 28-year-old is reportedly having doubts about a move to the Turkish league, and he would prefer a transfer to one of Europe's top leagues.
