Hernandez: I'm not happy sitting on the Madrid bench

    javier-chicharito-hernandez-celta-real-madrid-liga-bbva-04262015_vtv6lotcuni1172aku7socmyj.jpg

Javier Hernandez says he is currently happy at Real Madrid but warned he is not a player who is "content sitting on the bench".

The Mexico international joined the Blancos on loan from Manchester United last summer, with the option of a permanent switch to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

The striker saw little game time for most of the season but is presently impressing up front in the absence of Madrid's first-choice centre-forward, Karim Benzema.
Hernandez is thus delighted his patience has been rewarded but hinted that he will not stay in the Spanish capital if he is immediately dropped back to the bench when Benzema returns to full fitness.

"The season has been very complicated," the attacker told beIN Sport France. "But, in football, sometimes the wheel turns very quickly. And thank God, I now have more possibilities to play. "My parents taught me that patience and perseverance are part of learning. Today, I feel very good.

"For many people, I was already finished here, but it was only the beginning. One must not lower one's head.

"I learn every day in this great club and all I am grateful to God for that. I know that at Real Madrid the competition is strong and the minutes are rare and my intention was never to complain. "But, at times, I just expressed the frustration I felt. As I am not one to be content with sitting on the bench, I always want more."

Hernandez, who has netted four times in his last six appearances in all competitions, is now desperately hoping that he will keep his place up front for Tuesday's Champions League trip to Turin to face Turin, a side that he has the utmost respect for.

"Juventus are a top club in a major championship," he added. "They are not in the semi-finals by chance. "They will be strong and they will be two tough matches."

Pellegrini silent over Manchester City future

    manuelpellegrini-cropped_av0keww6n7vn1g7rvp0qish9r.jpg

Manuel Pellegrini refused to discuss his future after Manchester City's victory over Tottenham before aiming apparent criticsm at newly crowned Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Blues sealed the title with three games remaining after beating Crystal Palace 1-0 at Stamford Bridge as City reacted to being dethroned by beating Spurs by the same scoreline later on Sunday.

Pellegrini has overseen a trophyless season following last year's domestic triumph and his team now sit 13 points adrift of Jose Mourinho's side, leading to speculation over his job security. And, when asked if he will still be in charge at the Etihad Stadium next season, the Chilean told the BBC: "I'm not going to answer that question.

"I said before we were going to see a beautiful game because both teams play offensive football so I expect the fans enjoyed the game. It was a close game and Sergio scored a great goal. I am happy about that.

"You must remember against Tottenham that Chelsea conceded five goals, we have a clean sheet. Tottenham create chances with offensive players, but I think we have as many chances as Tottenham.

"We have to finish the season now and then we will analyse it. I think it's important to finish as near the top as possible and see where we need to improve.

"Maybe Chelsea are more consistent this year and they won the league but we scored more when we did it."

Hull City 1-3 Arsenal: Alexis and Ramsey tame sorry Tigers

    1336232_heroa.jpg

A first-half brace from Alexis Sanchez helped Arsenal roar to a convincing 3-1 victory over Premier League strugglers Hull City.

The Chilean opened the scoring with a free-kick that flicked off the head of Michael Dawson, before Aaron Ramsey doubled the Gunners' lead with another deflected strike.

Sanchez made it three in first-half injury time, rounding Steve Harper and rolling the ball into an empty net for his 16th goal of the campaign.

Stephen Quinn clawed one back for the Tigers with a header in the 56th minute, but Arsene Wenger's side held out to secure all three points.

The win was Arsenal's ninth in ten games and moves them level on points with Manchester City in second place, while Hull drop to 17th, just a single place and point above the drop zone with three games remaining.
Hull will require greater luck in their remaining fixtures after Sone Aluko wasted a good opening early on and Arsenal were rewarded for their own positive start 28 minutes in when Sanchez's free-kick struck the head of Dawson, wrong-footing Harper on its way into the net.

Things went from bad to worse for the home side five minutes later, with another deflected strike putting them further behind.

Santi Cazorla spotted Ramsey's forward run and the Wales midfielder controlled the Spaniard's fine pass instantly before turning and letting fly with a shot from inside the penalty area which hit Robbie Brady before looping into the far corner of the net. Hull were struggling to cope with Sanchez's movement and Harper did well to deny him when Cazorla split open the Tigers' defence with a sublime pass.

Bruce's side failed to learn their lesson as Sanchez struck again in first-half stoppage time, beating the goalkeeper with his first touch and finishing with his second after Ramsey turned provider with an incisive pass.

Hull pulled a goal back out of the blue 11 minutes into the second half, with Quinn the unlikely scorer, timing his run to perfection to head home Ahmed Elmohamady's cross from close range.

Arsenal felt referee Lee Mason should have awarded a free-kick for a David Meyler challenge on Laurent Koscielny in the build-up to the goal, and they almost conceded again as Paul McShane headed just over the crossbar.

Sanchez spurned two good openings for his hat-trick but his double was enough, though Nikica Jelavic's return from two months out may provide a crumb of comfort for Hull ahead of the weekend's visit of Burnley.

Four-ever: Inter pay homage to Zanetti with retired shirt celebrations

    zanetti-inter_1ci28qqvn4jxx1g68tp29lzj8c.jpg

Javier Zanetti has said he will "never forget the moment" that Inter officially retired the No. 4 jersey in his honour on Monday.

The Argentine defender retired at the end of last season, bringing an end to an illustrious career in which he won five Serie A titles, a Champions League crown, a Club World Cup and the Coppa Italia four times after 19 seasons with Inter.

The club announced that they would retire the jersey he made iconic, making the tribute official on Monday after the Expo 2015 charity match at San Siro on Monday. And Zanetti thanked the club for the gesture.

"I want to thank all of my friends who have been here with us this evening, the atmosphere is great," he said. "I will never forget this moment, thanks to all the people who came to the stadium for the charity game.

"My affection for these people will remain forever, they know what affection and love I have for them, this relationship will never end.

"I will never stop thanking these fans. I humbly built my career here and I faced many opponents with respect and for me it is important that they are here tonight."

Sacchi: Pirlo & Tevez are phenomenal

    andrea-pirlo-juventus_1rhss4y7putuo1u7odnwryk50y.jpg

Arrigo Sacchi has hailed Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez as "phenomenal" players and believes they will be crucial to Juventus in their Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid.

Juve host Madrid in Turin on Tuesday in the first leg of their last-four tie and Sacchi, a former Italy and AC Milan coach and Madrid sporting director, believes the Italian side can put the European champions under a lot of pressure, insisting Tevez and Pirlo are key.

"The Italian teams have never been easy for Madrid. If the players forget that, they could cause them some problems," he told AS. "Pirlo is a phenomenon who plays at his own pace.

"Another phenomenon is Tevez. He plays all over the field and for the team. He plays in a difficult space to defend against - in between the oppoisition defence and the midfield."

Sacchi believes Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri has done well to carry on the good work of Antonio Conte and feels he has improved the team's defence.

"He's taking advantage of the work of Conte. But now they pay more attention to the defensive side of the game.

"He will play a 5-3-2 against Madrid. Allegri doesn't have the courage to play with only two centre-backs. "If anyone is expecting a mistake from the Juve defence, they should think again. Juve will say 'Relax, we can close it up and sooner or later Madrid will put a foot wrong'.

"Madrid are without Luka Modric, which is vital. They rely heavily on individual quality and don't always press well. When they don't have possession, they are not always good."The two-time European Cup-winning coach also touched on the other semi-final between Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

"The two teams will play to win," he said. "Bayern did not always have consistency but now they are fine."They kill, the team is a machine!"

I didn't expect Alexis to score so many, admits Wenger

    alexis-sanchez-arsenal_17jsk7xl537oz1w5yk4voax8yt.jpg

Arsene Wenger says he is surprised by how many goals Alexis Sanchez has scored for Arsenal after the Chilean's brace helped his side to a 3-1 victory over Hull City.

Sanchez has enjoyed a superb debut campaign in the Premier League after joining from Barcelona for around €40 million last summer, becoming the first Arsenal player to score 20 goals in his maiden season since Thierry Henry.

And Wenger hailed the 26-year-old's impact, admitting that he did not envisage him getting on the scoresheet as regularly as he has.

When asked by Sky Sports if Alexis had surpassed his expectations, Wenger said: "Yes, because I expected him to be more of a provider than a goal scorer, because as well I play him on the flank where you have less chances, but he has the timing and the quality of his runs are very good and he gets in good areas to finish."

As well as Sanchez's individual performance, Wenger declared himself pleased with Arsenal's overall display against Hull.

The victory was the Gunners' ninth in 10 Premier League games and moved them level on points with Manchester City in second place.

"I’m very happy with the performance because we had a fluent game," Wenger added.

"The amazing thing is the two goals we scored were deflections and the clear-cut chances we had we didn’t score. Overall you could see a good dynamic in the team and our game was very good."

Anfield expansion will help Liverpool catch up with Premier League's best - Rick Parry

    anfield-liverpool-vs-manchester-united_p0yvhf75p4f51uly22kx03g6t.jpg

The long-awaited expansion of Anfield represents a "big step in the right direction" for Liverpool in terms of levelling the commercial playing field with their Premier League rivals, former CEO Rick Parry believes.

Work has begun to increase Anfield's capacity from just over 45,500 to 54,000 ahead of the 2016-17 season after Liverpool finally cleared the many hurdles preventing them from increasing the size of their stadium.

Parry is all too aware of the frustrations the club have faced in attempting to either build a new ground or renovate Anfield, having served as chief executive for 11 years between 1998 and 2009.

But Parry now feels that the club will be able to challenge the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal off the pitch once the expansion is complete.

"It'll be a big step in the right direction, clearly," he told Perform at the Sporting Directors' Summit at the Etihad Stadium.

"It is very important that we have Financial Fair Play in the Premier League as well as in Europe because you have to operate within your revenue stream and Liverpool's will increase.

"We worked on it for 10 years, but it was not possible for a whole variety of reasons, so it's great to see it happening."

Liverpool look set to miss out on next season's Champions League after a disappointing campaign and Parry underlined how much of a financial blow their likely absence represents.

"It will have a substantial impact on the revenue - you're probably talking £30 million depending on how far you progress," the ex-Premier League chief executive added.

"A club like Liverpool needs to be there consistently. You don't want to be in there for a season and then out the next year.

"It's about being able to get there and then keep your place in the top four."

When asked how times have changed in the Premier League since he left Anfield six years ago, Parry said Liverpool's challenge of being a constant presence in the top four is now more difficult.

"It's different now because we had Chelsea to compete with and [Roman] Abramovich's billions," he continued.

"Now you've got Manchester City with very, very wealthy backers, you've got Manchester United and Arsenal who are hugely successful commercially, so it's tougher now than it's ever been, which is why the stadium expansion is all the more important."

Allegri: Juve must do great things to beat Real Madrid

    massimiliano-allegri-juventus_ixb3nla0o76s13h3m3ovz7yak.jpg

Massimiliano Allegri believes Juventus must do "great things in defence and attack" to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.

Juve progressed to the last four of the competition after beating Monaco in the quarter-finals to set up a tie with Madrid, who beat city rivals Atletico.
Allegri is sure there will be goals in both games of their last four tie, but feels his side must be at their best in every position if they are to reach the final.

"We need to put in a strong performance, especially in the final third. There are top rate teams in the Champions League semi-finals," he told reporters. "It will be a double-header of the highest calibre, we must do great things in defence and in attack, but we have to be very good in attack."I don't think we'll see clean sheets in either game. Madrid are the defending champions, so it will be challenging but it is fair that they are considered favourites at this point.

"We are ready to take our chances against a great team and so many great champions."

The injured Paul Pogba will miss Tuesday's clash in Turin, but the coach hopes his star midfielder will be fit for the game in Madrid the following week, before revealing that he will play with four defenders in the first leg."We hope to have Pogba back for the return leg.

"Ancelotti said he'll play with four at the back? So will we. All that matters in football is results. A lot is said at the start of the season, but at the end of the season all that remains are the results.

"There can be so many opinions that nearly anybody can be right. We've had pretty good results and I'm delighted and proud, thanks to the lads and the club I've worked with."

Tevez: Madrid tie will be decided by mistakes

    carlos-tevez-juventus-serie-a-29042015_1gwmweid68fj41164vemq71r4z.jpg

Carlos Tevez believes Juventus' Champions League semi-final tie with Real Madrid will be won by the team who makes the least mistakes.

The two sides meet in the first leg of their last-four tie in Turin on Tuesday and the striker is expecting a close encounter.

"It will be a difficult, open and hard fought semi-final. There's no favourite, the team that makes the least mistakes will win," he told reporters.

"Here, I have the belief of my coach and my team-mates. They make me feel important. The big secret behind Juventus is the group's mentality, that's what's brought us the success we've had."

Tevez believes he and star midfielder Arturo Vidal can combine to drive the Italian champions to victory and is looking forward to seeing former Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo."Vidal is in great shape, he scored on Saturday against Sampdoria and has regained his confidence. I hope that together we can make the difference.

"I'll see Cristiano in the tunnel and we'll have a chat. But we'll be rivals the minute the game starts."Alvaro Morata has come on leaps and bounds over the past few months and is ready. He won't feel the pressure."

Llorente: Madrid will provide the biggest challenge of our lives

    fernando-llorente-juventus-fiorentina-serie-a_zsyc7cmr807v1ftwt9mkhp6ev.jpg

Fernando Llorente is in no doubt that Juventus can win the treble this season - even though they must face Real Madrid will provide "the biggest challenge" of the team's life in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The Bianconeri wrapped up a fourth successive Serie A title at the weekend courtesy of a 1-0 win at Sampdoria, while they are already through to the Coppa Italia final, in which they will meet Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, as coach Massimiliano Allegri recently admitted, their dream is the Champions League and on Tuesday they host current titleholders Madrid in the first leg of a last-four showdown.

Llorente freely admits that getting the better of Los Blancos will be tough but he says that he and his colleagues have faith in their ability to pull off a treble.

"We believe in it, and why not? It's pointless to hide from it," the striker told reporters on Monday. "We want to beat Real and reach the final in Berlin: for us they will be the biggest challenges of our lives."Winning the Scudetto was beautiful but we cannot allow ourselves too much time to celebrate."

Llorente enjoyed a fine debut season in Serie A after joining Juve from Athletic Bilbao on a free transfer in the summer of 2013 but he has struggled this term, managing just six goals in 29 league appearances.

The Spaniard acknowledges that he has underperformed in recent months but he has been lifted by last week's headed effort in a crucial 3-2 win over Fiorentina.
"It's true that things that not go in the way in which I expected, although I must say that I still managed to score some decisive goals all the same," he added. "I'm rediscovering my best form."

Muller: Guardiola knows the recipe for beating Barcelona

    josep-guardiola-gabriel-milito-barcelona_13wgufbsxmpxg11pgjyje6buij.jpg

Thomas Muller is in no doubt that Pep Guardiola will provide Bayern Munich with the perfect recipe for beating Barcelona.

The Catalans have been in excellent form since the turn of the year, overhauling Real Madrid at the top of La Liga as well as knocking both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain out of Europe.

However, Muller takes great heart from the fact that Bayern are coached by Guardiola, who won 14 trophies in four seasons at Camp Nou between 2008 and 2012.

"We know that Barcelona are one of the best teams in the world," he told his club's official website. "They have knocked out two huge teams in the Champions League. "But I am optimistic. I'm confident in the team - we want to win there.

"We know their potential. They have a great squad and covering [Lionel] Messi as a defender is not comfortable. "But we are preparing well. The coach knows Barcelona better than anyone. "He will give us the recipe in our hands; the rest we need to do as players."

Bayern go into the game shorn of the services of a number of key figures through injury, including star winger Arjen Robben, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

However, the fact that the Bavarians are in the unusual position of being underdogs going into the game does not ease the tension surrounding the trip to Catalunya, as far as Muller is concerned.

"We have pressure, regardless," the Germany international stated. "If we are knocked out neither the fans or the press say 'Well, it was Barcelona and that's that.'"No, everyone has expectations. We are Bayern and we will not hide."

Indeed, Muller pointed out that the last time the two sides met in the Champions League, in the semi-finals of the 2012-13 campaign, Bayern routed Barca 7-0 on aggregate.

"It was a great experience which means we can jump to the Camp Nou with positive feelings," the attacking midfielder added."We played brilliantly and amazed everyone in the football world."
