:(:sorry:Man United's Michael Carrick sidelined for remainder of campaign

    i

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a calf problem, Louis van Gaal has confirmed.Carrick's injury, which he sustained in the 4-2 win against Manchester City on April 12, has proved far worse than was first feared.

However, United defenders Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans and Marcos Rojo are back in contention for the Premier League clash at Crystal Palace on Saturday.United have won 12 of the 16 league games Carrick has started, but only seven of the 19 he has not, and Van Gaal has admitted his absence is a blow.

"Carrick is not available, it was more heavy than we thought," Van Gaal told MUTV. "We tried everything but now we have to think about next season. He shall not play anymore this season. It's better now to focus for him on next season and being fit to start."When you see the stats, it's clear that he's very important but that's also because we have only one right-sided holding midfielder."Van Gaal added that Carrick's injury shows why he needs to buy a new midfielder in the summer transfer window.

"That's what I am saying already in the whole of the season, that our selection is not balanced, and I want to restore that in the next transfer period," he said. "The life is not ending at 34, but for a professional football player, it's close by. That's why I have to handle again in that position."

Shaw missed last week's 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion with a groin problem but is now back in contention, while Evans has not figured in United's last eight games after serving a six-match ban for spitting at Newcastle's Papiss Cisse, before then suffering from sciatica. Rojo, meanwhile, has not featured since the win over City but has since overcome an adductor injury.

Van Gaal added: "Evans and Shaw can play football or the game. Evans doesn't have the match rhythm because he was injured for six weeks and after that he was suspended for six weeks, and after that he was injured.

"Evans is a candidate for the bench but he needs match rhythm. Rojo is coming back but [I may] put him on the bench or something like that."Phil Jones is also closing in on a comeback following an ankle injury and played 62 minutes for United's under-21 team in the 1-0 win against Southampton on Monday.

    Cavani: I could leave PSG

    edinson-cavani-psg-metz-04282015_1xbkdp9ih6jkb1fzjiopd3mnbf.jpg

Edinson Cavani has suggested he could leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season as he is unhappy with his current role with the Ligue 1 champions.

The Uruguay international has mainly been used out wide since joining the club from Napoli in the summer of 2013, with head coach Laurent Blanc preferring Zlatan Ibrahimovic as his central striker.

Clubs such as Manchester United and Juventus have been said to be closely monitoring Cavani's situation at PSG and the 28-year-old has now made it clear that there is no guarantee he will stay put."I don't know whether I will stay at PSG. I might stay, I might leave... You never know what will happen in football," Cavani told GQ.

"When I arrived at PSG, I was forced to play on the wing. People don't understand how much that has influenced my performances. I would score a lot more if I was played as a striker."I want to play as a striker. I would without a doubt do much better in my own position."

Cavani would not be available on the cheap even if he attempted to force through a transfer. The attacker has a contract with the Parc des Princes side until June 2018 and club president Nasser Al Khelaifi claimed last month that they would not even consider a potential €50 million offer.

Paris Saint-Germain 6-0 Guingamp: Cavani hat-trick sends champions six points clear

    1354842_heroa.jpg

Edinson Cavani hit a hat-trick as Paris Saint-Germain stormed six points clear at the top of Ligue 1 with a 6-0 rout of Guingampon Friday.

The hosts led inside two minutes in the French capital as Cavani angled home his fifth goal in four games.Ibrahimovic joined him on the scoresheet with a well-taken strike 18 minutes in, with Cavani ending the game as a contest early in the second half.

Talismanic skipper Ibrahimovic turned provider with an impudent chipped assist for Maxwell's header before Cavani sealed his first PSG hat-trick thanks to a quick free-kick from Marco Verratti.Ibrahimovic converted a late penalty, with Blanc's men needing just four points from their last two games to ensure a third consecutive title.

Serge Aurier came in at right-back - with Gregory van der Wiel and David Luiz both injured - and the full-back supplied the in-form Cavani with the early opener.
The Uruguayan applied the finishing touch to Aurier's delivery as Guingamp were penned back in the opening exchanges. The visitors eventually tested fit-again goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu with a long-range free-kick from Claudio Beauvue 12 minutes in.

Sirigu - sidelined with an ankle injury for the last two games - punched the effort clear and it proved a rare period of respite prior to Ibrahimovic doubling the advantage.Following patient play from Cavani and Verratti, the captain cut back onto his left foot and stroked home his 18th league goal of the season.

Jonas Lossl was required to tip Javier Pastore's close-range effort onto the outside of the post before the half-hour mark although the first period ended scrappily, with both sides regularly committing fouls.Guingamp made the early running after the break, but were hit by another Cavani sucker punch in the 52nd minute.

The forward doubled his tally as he finished off a slick passing move, latching onto Ibrahimovic's poked throughball to put the game beyond the visitors.A touch of Ibrahimovic genius allowed Maxwell to bolster PSG's goal difference further with a close-range header before Cavani gained a deserved treble.

With Guingamp switching off, Verratti scooped a set-piece for Cavani to finish before Ibrahimovic completed the rout - scoring from the spot having being hauled down by Jeremy Sorbon.

Blanc's men now have a healthier goal difference than Lyon and are on course for another domestic success, having avenged December's 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture.

Blanc: PSG are playing like champions

    laurentblanc-cropped_v66w660pdlft1l4k6zytqeqk8.jpg

Laurent Blanc says that since January Paris Saint-Germain have set "a pace of champions" in the Ligue 1 title race and now all that is left for his side to do is make it to the finish line.

The capital club made a sluggish start to the defence of their domestic crown and looked set to be involved in a three-way fight for the championship with Lyon and Marseille.

However, the latter stumbled down the final stretch, while a 6-0 win over Guingamp on Friday night means that PSG are now six points ahead of second-placed Lyon, who travel to Caen on Saturday,

Consequently, Blanc is proud of his side's campaign, given that they are perfectly placed to record a treble, having already claimed the Coupe de la Ligue and made the final of the Coupe de France.

Indeed, the World Cup winner is particularly pleased by the way in which PSG responded to their Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Barcelona and concentrated themselves on claiming a third successive Ligue 1 title.

"I have no regrets. This season we had those returning from a tough World Cup and some delayed international recoveries," the PSG boss told beIN Sports.

"The season has been complicated. Despite this, we have not lost many points.Since January, we have set a pace of champions and we should not be afraid to say it."Let's confirm this in the two remaining matches."

Edinson Cavani hit a hat-trick in the demolition of Guingamp, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored two goals and created another, for Brazilian defender Maxwell.

However, Blanc was just as enthused by his side's defensive work as their offensive excellence, given the clean sheet was their first at the Parc des Princes since January."What makes me happy is the score, but also the manner of the win," the World Cup winner added.

"For five or six games now my team have realised they have to be ready for the final straight and we have done that.

"We all worked hard to get the ball back when we lost it, at half time I said that I did not want to concede."It's great to score and not concede as the goal difference becomes greater."The collective determination gave me great pleasure."

    Nasri's season ended by injury

    samirnasri-cropped_ljxnpz6j2uzx115foz6vda8ut.jpg

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri will be sidelined for the rest of the season through injury.

The Frenchman was forced off with a groin problem during last weekend's 1-0 Premier League win at Tottenham, leaving the field shortly after being introduced as a 73rd-minute substitute.

"We have the complete squad working except for Nasri, who has a muscle injury," City boss Manuel Pellegrini told reporters on Friday. "He will be out from now to the end of the season."

City could, though, welcome back captain Vincent Kompany, who has been absent since last month's Manchester derby with a thigh issue.

"Vincent is always an important player for us," added Pellegrini. "He is coming back from a muscle injury.

"It is important for him to recover his normal performance. We will see what will happen from now until the end of the season."

City host QPR on Sunday as they continue their bid to claim second behind champions Chelsea.

Nobody can defend against Messi - Moyes

    lionelmessidavidmoyes-cropped_ele72ph73bm61j4b35kqyg57h.jpg

Real Sociedad head coach David Moyes has followed Pep Guardiola in claiming that it is impossible to defend against Lionel Messi .

The Argentina forward was at his stunning best on Wednesday, scoring twice in Barca's 3-0 success over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.That double included a wonderful individual goal that helped put his side on the verge of reaching the final, with Sociedad next up in La Liga on Saturday.

Moyes' side have already beaten Barca this term, but, as the Scot targets a famous double, he waxed lyrical about Messi's talents.

"No-one can defend against Messi," the former Manchester United boss said.
"He may have the odd off day, but he's one of the best players of all time. Teams try and stop him but he carries on, makes no fuss.

"I admire Messi for what he represents, his fantastic football and the fact that he doesn't dive or fake injury - things that repulse me in the world of football."

Barca lead rivals Real Madrid by two points at the summit going into the final three games of the campaign.

With Luis Enrique on course for a treble in his first season at the helm, Moyes added: "They have a great team aside from Messi and can call on the likes of Neymar, [Andres] Iniesta and Xavi."I have nothing but admiration for Iniesta and Xavi, two of the finest players in the past decade.

"But we will travel to Barcelona with that intention [of winning again] but we are also realistic enough to know that Barcelona are one of the best teams in the world.

"We hope to put on a good performance and hope to secure a positive result."

:DGattuso: How to stop Messi? Kick him!

    306705_heroa.jpg

Gennaro Gattuso has joined Lionel Messi's long list of admirers by joking that the only way of stopping him is to kick the Barcelona man.

The Argentina star lit up the Champions League on Wednesday with two goals in his side's 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their semi-final.

Various high-profile figures have since praised Messi's continued brilliance and Gattuso - who was famed for his physical approach during his playing days - says it is almost impossible to stop him.

The former Italy and AC Milan midfielder said to reporters: "How to stop him? I would not know how to coach players to do that. Perhaps man marking - or even a little kick!"

Messi's first goal saw him rifle home from the edge of the box, but his second was even better as the 27-year-old twisted past Jerome Boateng before clipping over goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

The four-time Ballon d'Or winner also laid on the pass for Neymar's goal as Barcelona put one foot in the Champions League final ahead of next week's second leg in Germany.

    'Klopp could return to Dortmund'

    jurgenklopp-cropped_1bq837v446z8s1itrnc963bio8.jpg

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has refused to rule out the prospect of Jurgen Klopp one day returning to the club.

Klopp will leave his post as Dortmund boss at the end of the season following a seven-year spell that has seen him win two Bundesliga titles and the DFB-Pokal as well as reaching the Champions League final in 2013.

He will attempt to end his reign with one final piece of silverware as Dortmund take on Wolfsburg in the Pokal final at the end of the month before Thomas Tuchel takes over. And when asked if Klopp could potentially return to the Signal Iduna Park dugout one day, Zorc replied: "Why not?"

"Maybe not in the immediate future, but Jurgen's still a pretty young coach so why shouldn't he come back to Dortmund? There's nothing to say he won't."Former Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel has already been confirmed as Klopp's replacement.

Carrick won't play for Manchester United again this season, reveals Van Gaal

    michael-carrick-cropped_11wus18xkrv9e128jrsygifzl5.jpg

Manchester United will be without Michael Carrick for their final three games of the season as the midfielder continues to struggle with a calf injury, boss Louis van Gaal has revealed.

The England international has not featured since picking up the problem in the 4-2 Premier League win over Manchester City on April 12, with United losing all three of the Premier League matches they have played in his absence.

On Friday, Van Gaal confirmed the injury was more serious than originally thought before going on to suggest he will look to bolster his midfield options when the transfer window reopens.

"Carrick is not available, it was more heavy than we thought," he told MUTV.

"We tried everything but now we have to think about next season. He shall not play anymore this season, it's better now to focus for him on next season and being fit to start.

'Messi the greatest club player of all time' - Carragher

    lionel-messi-manuel-neuer_qow5qsopprvn1mrj9cv086h9u.jpg

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher believes that Lionel Messi has proven himself the best club player of all time.

The Argentine is the talk of the football world once again, after a stunning two-goal salvo in Barcelona's 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at Camp Nou on Wednesday.Numerous ex-players were quick to argue that the four-time Ballon d'Or winner's stunning performance offered conclusive proof that the diminutive No.10 deserves to be recognised as the finest talent the game has ever seen.

Carragher feels that an argument could still be made that Messi needs to lift the World Cup to be ranked No.1 but the former England international is in no doubt that the 27-year-old has surpassed all others at club level.

"His achievements over the last decade have been so breathtaking that you could say he has outstripped those who have gone before — and it is quite possible we will never see them bettered," he wrote in The Daily Mail "The men with whom we are comparing him are gods — Diego Maradona, Johan Cruyff, Franz Beckenbauer and Alfredo di Stefano. Pele doesn’t enter the debate. He won 10 league titles and two Copa Libertadores with Santos but I feel European competition has always been more competitive.

"It gets said that the standards in La Liga are not taxing for him and Cristiano Ronaldo but look at Messi’s record in the Champions League: he now has an astonishing 77 goals — two of which defined finals against Manchester United in Rome (2009) and at Wembley (2011) — in just 97 games. His consistency is remarkable.

"He has taken Barcelona to heights they had never known. During his time, they have turned one European Cup into four with the promise of a fifth in Berlin next month. They have also dominated Spanish football and a sixth league title in 10 years is within their grasp."I understand the game is now not as physical as it used to be in the days of Maradona and Cruyff but they never had to endure the scrutiny and exposure that comes with today’s game, the constant analysis of performances and the pressure to produce results, which Messi has to deal with ...

"The job of facing the 27-year-old, who is now scoring 50 or 60 goals a season from his free role, however, is now the most difficult in football, as the unfortunate Jerome Boateng found out to his cost on Wednesday."Quite simply, Messi has been the greatest player in the best club team we have ever seen."

Messi's double against Bayern saw him reclaim the all-time Champions League goalscoring record from Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo.

:)Fellaini: Van Gaal fined me because I was late for lunch!

    marouane-fellaini-manchester-united_qco1o59t6yzr14ytwhmjtwdp8.jpg

Marouane Fellaini claims that Louis van Gaal fined 10 Manchester United players because they were one minute late for lunch.

The Dutchman has gained a reputation for his disciplinarian ways throughout his career, and has employed the same methods at Old Trafford as he bids to return United to the Champions League.

Fellaini has enjoyed something of a revival under the 63-year-old, but he admits that he was on the receiving end of Van Gaal’s fury after failing to turn up for lunch on time.

“He blew a fuse the other day when a group of 10 of us were one minute late for lunch after training,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

“You think one minute is nothing and it wasn’t for training, but for the canteen. For him it’s important though.

“He dished out a few fines. That’s what happens to late-comers and even for a red card. You get fined, too, for a bad foul”.

Despite his resurgent form under Van Gaal, Fellaini admits that he cried when he discovered David Moyes – the Dutchman’s predecessor – had been sacked in April 2014.

“I was sad when he went. I came into the canteen and saw him in a suit instead of his tracksuit. He called me into his office and told me,” he added.

“There were tears and that is normal, I am human. I worked six years with him. He was not a second father, but almost. He helped me a lot”.

Benatia: Bayern can beat Barcelona 4-0!

    medhi-benatia-bayern-munich-german-bundesliga-12132014_1r8e9f2mpgaff1667x1twyhcwc.jpg

Mehdi Benatia is adamant that Bayern Munich can overturn a three-goal deficit in next week's Champions League second-leg showdown with Barcelona but conceded that Pep Guardiola's men will have produce "the perfect game" to progress to the final.

The German titleholders suffered a shock 3-0 loss at Camp Nou on Wednesday, with Lionel Messi netting a sensational double before Neymar struck in the dying seconds to seemingly end the last-four tie as a contest.

However, Benatia insists that all is not lost and is taking heart from the fact that Bayern hammered Porto 6-1 at the Allianz Arena in the quarter-finals, having lost the first leg 3-1. "It is not easy, but if we do not believe, we can all stay at home," the defender is quoted as saying by L'Equipe.

"We also have great players and the ability to play better."If we get our shots away quicker, we will score. We can win 4-0.

"But we need the perfect game and to go in there and get ahead early."We have shown that we can score goals at home, even though we have not played against Barca yet."

Bayern are hoping to avoid bowing out at the same stage of the Champions League for the second successive season, with the Bavarians having been routed 5-0 on aggregate by Real Madrid in last year's semis.

Garcia: Don't make Totti a scapegoat for Roma's problems

    francesco-totti_mthtajct1ar1c3q4ul74s29h.jpg

Roma boss Rudi Garcia has pleaded for Francesco Totti to be left "in peace" and not be made "a scapegoat" for the team's slump during the second half of the season.

The Giallorossi suffered a dramatic dip in form after the turn of the year that saw them go from challenging Juventus for top spot in Serie A to battling it out with city rivals Lazio for second place.

Roma have now moved back ahead of the Biancocelesti thanks to back-to-back wins over Genoa and Sassuolo - two games for which Totti was left on the bench.
Gervinho added further spice to the debate over whether the Giallorossi are a better side without their club captain by stating that Totti "no longer makes assists".
However, Garcia, speaking on the eve of Roma's trip to AC Milan, has pleaded for an end to the discourse.

"Firstly, I think [Gervinho] was joking," the French coach told reporters on Friday."But in any case, we have to leave the captain alone and not make him a scapegoat.

"He has always given everything for the good of Rome."Leave Totti in peace. He’s a great player and makes headlines every single week. He’s an important player for us.

"He may start, he may come off the bench – the only thing that counts is winning in Milan."Garcia also requested an end to speculation over whether Radja Nainggolan will sign a new contract with the club.

"Every player is important and no player is more important than any other in my eyes," the former Lille boss added."We don’t have time to get distracted; we need to keep our concentration up."Nobody should be thinking about their own personal situation.

"It’s not the time to be speaking about the transfer market or next season’s squad, we just need to focus on the field of play."Second-placed Roma are just one point ahead of Lazio, who host Inter at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
