Neymar: Barcelona can relax over Manchester United talk

    1840542_heroa.jpg

Neymar says that Barcelona supporters can relax over talk of a world-record transfer to Manchester United.

The 23-year-old returned from illness to feature in Barca's 1-0 victory against Malaga on Saturday and, after helping his side to their second win of the season at Camp Nou, Neymar made it clear to worried fans that they have nothing about which to be worried.

"The people from Barca can be calm," he told TV3.

"When I hear things like this, I don't think anything. I just heard it and I am calm. I am very happy at Barca and with my colleagues."

Reports in the British press suggested that United were willing to fork out a total of £240m for the Brazil captain but he is more than happy to continue his goalscoring exploits alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, with silverware his main target.

"We can have a great season. I don't know if we can make as many goals but we are going to try to", Neymar continued of Barca's South American forward line.

"We want titles for our team."

Balotelli has a lot of work to do, says Bacca

    carlosbacca-cropped_1nyrf1wzq9f7q1exkejsmws09i.jpg

Carlos Bacca believes new AC Milan arrival Mario Balotelli "has a lot of work to do" to be up to speed with his fellow forwards.

Colombia international Bacca scored his first goal for the club during Milan's 2-1 victory over Empoli on Saturday following his €30 million switch from Sevilla and will be hoping to find his stride quickly.

But he already has plenty of competition for a starting place at San Siro, with Balotelli joining Bacca and Luiz Adriano as the third new attacking recruit when he returned on loan from Anfield on Thursday.

Bacca acknowledges that head coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has decisions to make on who will be regular starters between himself, Luiz Adriano and Balotelli.

"There's healthy competition in attack and the important thing is that it benefits Milan," he told Mediaset Premium."Mario has been here for a few days and has a lot of work to do, then Mihajlovic will decide whether to play with two or three strikers."

Saturday's defeat of Empoli saw Milan register their first points of the season after losing 2-0 at Fiorentina last time out and, although their quality ultimately shone through in the end, Bacca feels they must improve.

"We played this game with the right attitude, but we must improve the quality of our football," he added. "Empoli put in a great performance and really pressured us on the ball, but fortunately we were able to win."

James Rodriguez's quality impossible to deny - Benitez

    1849182_heroa.jpg

Rafa Benitez has lauded James Rodriguez's talent following the Real Madrid attacker's audacious strikes as they defeated Real Betis 5-0 on Saturday.

James, 24, was the star of the show for the Blancos, scoring Madrid's second of the night with an unorthodox free kick from an acute angle and adding the side's fourth with an acrobatic bicycle kick.

Benitez discussed James' quality, Cristiano Ronaldo not scoring for consecutive gameweeks and the quality of goals scored by last season's La Liga runners up - with Gareth Bale bagging an impressive double and Karim Benzema finishing off a fine team move with his head.

"James has been catching up with the rest of the team's fitness, his quality is undeniable," he told reporters. "Everybody knows the kid can play. There's no debate about it.

"You do the best to score spectacular goals, so I am content with what was scored today, but I generally don't care how the ball gets put in the back of the net.

"Cristiano was the one with the most shots on goal - if the team continues to generate chances, he will score soon enough."

The victory has alleviated pressure on Benitez, who was not a particularly popular hire among Madrid fans in the summer following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti after a season without a major trophy.

Real Madrid - who drew last weekend's opener 0-0 at Sporting Gijon - are back in action on September 12 with a trip to Espanyol, following a two-week international break.

Mourinho: I hope Chelsea don't panic-buy after Crystal Palace defeat

    1734222_heroa.jpg

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen to avoid the temptation to panic-buy in the wake of his side's shock 2-1 home loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Following what was only Mourinho's second league defeat at Stamford Bridge, the Blues now trail rivals Manchester City by eight points after just four games of the Premier League season.

The former Real Madrid coach was critical of three unnamed players following the result but Mourinho says that he is reluctant to return to the transfer market and make rash decisions.

"I hope this does not prompt us to the transfer market. I don't like that," he told the press.

"I gave my club the report of the season projection on April 21. I don't think it's now on August 29 or 30 that I am going to say 'I want this' or 'I want that'.

"We have to do better. Me and the players have to do better."

Mourinho had earlier criticised several of his team for playing under their potential as Alan Pardew's side emerged victorious.

Pato wants Sao Paulo stay amid Tottenham links

    1850752_heroa.jpg

Sao Paulo striker Alexandre Pato insists that he is in the dark over reports linking him to Tottenham and is unclear over his future at the club.

The 25-year-old, who is due to stay at the Brazilian club until December while on loan from Corinthians, has been linked with the north Londoners, who are chasing reinforcements up front ahead of the transfer deadline on Tuesday.

Pato would prefer to stay with Sao Paulo but admitted after his side's 3-0 win over Ponte Preta on Saturday that he would seek clarification over his next step.

"I don't know what's going to happen," he told the Daily Mirror . "I don't know if if it was my last game for Sao Paulo. I will talk with my agent.

"I want to stay but it does not depend on me. It would not be good to finish like this. I'll sit down and talk to see what's going to happen.

Asked directly about Tottenham's supposed interest, Pato replied: "I don't know."

    Simeone delighted with Kranevitter capture

    diegosimeone-cropped_1dw9seq7v3p3e11b87q3jvjfb3.jpg

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has expressed his delight at the capture of River Plate midfielder Matias Kranevitter.

The 22-year-old completed his switch to La Liga this week, though he won’t join up with his new club until after River play in the Club World Cup in December.
“We are very happy with his arrival at the club,” Simeone said.

“For now we wish him well in his final stage with River and then we will receive him here with the belief that he will perform to the level we think he will in the future.”Atletico face Sevilla on Sunday and Simeone drew comparisons between the two sides in terms of their football philosophy.

The former Sevilla midfielder said: "I have great memories [of playing for Sevilla]. My introduction to Spanish football was in Sevilla. I was treated very well and had some very good years here as a player."As a rivalry this is an important game against a very strong team which is matched to us.

"They are a mirror to us in certain situations with a very competitive coach in [Unai] Emery, who has managed to reinvent the team."Just two points separated the two sides last season, with Atletico finishing third and Sevilla fourth.

Robben: Vidal wanted to take my penalty

    arjen-robben-vfl-wolfsburg-fc-bayern-munchen-dfl-supercup-01082015_j03vbdiym6221wmt7yct5lugt.jpg

Bayern Munich forward Arjen Robben says new signing Arturo Vidal wanted to take his penalty in the 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side cruised to victory at the Allianz Arena thanks to two goals from Thomas Muller and a Robben penalty, which Muller allowed him to take despite being on a hat-trick.

Chile international Vidal was the designated penalty taker at his former club Juventus, but Robben says the Chile international will have to accept his place in the hierarchy at the Allianz-Arena.

“We have a clear pecking order for penalties,” Robeen said. “Thomas is taker number one, I’m number two. But it’s good that Arturo also wanted to take it. It’s better than everyone being scared.”

Muller himself had already scored from 12 yards to double Bayern’s lead and said Vidal had also asked to take the first spot-kick."Arturo was Juventus' penalty-taker and he asked me if he could take it, but it's all about being part of a team at Bayern Munich,” Muller said.

FCB are hoping to make it four consecutive Bundesliga titles this season and have opened the new campaign with three straight victories. And Robben says Saturday’s win was a signal of their intentions to dominate Germany once again.

“A 3-0 win is a very good statement of intent,” he said. “We’ve played very, very well and deserved the win against top-class opponents. We have very quick wide players. We need to be moving the ball at speed and creating one-on-one situations."

Bayern confirm Dante to Wolfsburg switch

    1806892_heroa.jpg

Bayern Munich have confirmed Dante is set to leave the club and join Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg.

There was speculation last week that the centre-back could depart after he missed a club photoshoot, only for his agent to deny the claims.

However, his situation has changed over the weekend, with Bayern confirming his departure in the coming days and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummennigge citing Dante's desire for first team football as the reason for his exit.

Rummenigge said: "Dante wanted to have the chance to play on a regular basis. We would like to thank him. Bayern and Dante had a very successful time together with many titles. We wish him all the best for his future."

Dante joined Bayern from Borussia Monchengldbach in 2012 and won the treble under former coach Jupp Heynckes in his first season at the club, before going on to win a further two Bundesliga titles in 2014 and 2015.

Koeman: Wanyama not mentally fit to play

    1851042_heroa.jpg

In-demand midfielder Victor Wanyama has been omitted from Southampton's squad to face Norwich City on Sunday as he is not mentally fit to play, according to manager Ronald Koeman.

Goal understands that the Kenya international has asked to leave the club and has informed bosses that he will not be signing a new deal, with Tottenham and former Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino the most interested party.

Wanyama missed Southampton's last fixture, the Europa League defeat by Midtjylland which saw them crash out of the competition, with a stomach bug, though it has been reported that he is actually trying to force through a move to White Hart Lane.

And while Koeman still maintains that the transfer-seeking Kenyan is suffering from illness, he has alluded to other reasons for the midfielder's absence from the team sheet.

"Manager Ronald Koeman says Victor Wanyama misses today's game as he is not 'mentally and physically good enough to play'," the club Tweeted.
Wanyama only has two years left on his current contract but, having already lost Morgan Schneiderlin this summer, Southampton would demand a substantial fee for a player who cost £12.5 million in 2013.

The 24-year-old has previously praised the impact that Pochettino had on his career, having played 24 times under the Argentine in his maiden campaign in England, and appears keen on a reunion.

"He played a big role in my career development," said the Kenyan after Pochettino joined Spurs. "I wanted him to remain because he had the passion for the club.

"I think the owners should not have let him go because the team can do better next season. It’s a big blow because he had good connection with the players."

Southampton are already somewhat braced for Wanyama's potential departure, having signed Jordy Clasie from Feyenoord and Oriol Romeu from Chelsea - the Spaniard takes his place in the starting XI against Norwich.

Official: Markovic joins Fenerbahce on loan

    lazar-markovic-liverpool_h48eh7k8wlyr1c167krddvq1e.jpg

Fenerbahce have completed the signing of Lazar Markovic from Liverpool on a season-long loan deal.

Markovic arrived from Benfica in a £20 million move last July, but struggled to nail down a regular place in Brendan Rodgers's side with just 11 Premier League starts under his belt.

Rodgers insisted on Friday that Serbian has a future with Liverpool but will be allowed to continue his development in Turkey for the entire 2015-16 season.

Markovic joins a host of high-profile signings that have joined Fenerbahce in the current transfer window, with Robin van Persie and Nani moving from Manchester United.
