    :frown::no:Pardew: I am like Klopp

    alanpardew-cropped_crpubosmsfzy1lk8bf7fcoq23.jpg

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew believes he can see much of himself in charismatic Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp is undefeated since taking over at Liverpool – guiding the Merseyside club to three straight wins along with three draws.

The German manager gained the reputation as one of the most popular figures in world football in his time at Borussia Dortmund and his charisma and tactical nous has helped brighten up Liverpool's slow start to the season.

Liverpool welcome Pardew's Palace to Anfield on Sunday and the 54-year-old claims he sees similarities with himself and Klopp ahead of the fixture.

"I do see him on the sideline, and I look at myself and think 'That's very similar to how I am'," Pardew said.

"He never gives too many negative things out, even though he's quite involved in the game, and I like to think I don't either.

"We'll both be intense, Sunday, to try and get our teams to win, but he's had a great start and he'll be looking to continue that.

"Whenever I've come up against a manager who's similar to myself on the sidelines - [West Brom's] Tony Pulis is very tight to the touchline - I never have an issue really, so I don't expect there to be any kind of issue on Sunday.

"I like how he is on the sideline, I think you can send messages to your players in a positive way, and you've just got to be careful not to do it in a negative way."

Pardew added: "[Me and Klopp] are just expressive in our feelings, a little bit more so than maybe other managers."

Title chances depend on Christmas form - Wenger

    arsene-wenger_f1ryd7uliii51s1ldv92ysldp.jpg

Arsene Wenger feels he will be in a better position to forecast Arsenal's Premier League title chances in late December.

Arsenal suffered a demoralising 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday to leave their Champions League aspirations in tatters.

Wenger is now looking ahead to Sunday’s north London derby with Tottenham and feels he will be able to judge his side’s competitiveness during the festive period.

"At Christmas I will tell you that,” he said when asked about Arsenal’s title chances.

"We have to be in the fight at Christmas. The desire is there. We need to show it in all our games.

“What is good, positive for us, is if you look at our fixtures until now we have played all the big teams and the teams fighting at the top, apart from Man City.
"We have played Chelsea, Liverpool, West Ham, Leicester, Man United."

The French boss believes the upcoming fixtures should favour his side compared to previous title-chasing seasons.

"When we were top two years ago we had not played for a while all the teams fighting at the top," he added. "We had only played the teams in the second half of the table.

"This time we are in a strong position and we have played many teams who are in the top half of the table."

    Klopp dismisses Mourinho touchline criticisms

    jose-mourinho-jurgen-klopp_uxmbatdwal6914oz46qhcznkl.jpg

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has laughed off criticism from Jose Mourinho over his hyperactive manner on the touchline when his side are in action.

The former Borussia Dortmund man has become a familiar sight on the side of the pitch since moving to England, holding regular conversation with officials mid-match.

But he brushed off the Chelsea boss' claim that if he copied Klopp's behaviour he would be punished.

"That is just my way of coaching. I try to be calm, but that isn't easy," he explained.

"With the fourth officials, I have no problems. I only ask questions as I am new to the Premier League and I don't understand some decisions.
"I am trying to learn everything about English football and it is important for me to know how English referees act in certain situations, as it has been really different in the last few weeks.

"Most of the time I do it in a respectful way, but sometimes my face doesn't show it - there is a big difference between my face and what I actually say."

Playing down Mourinho's comments, the German insisted that he was only interested in how Liverpool were playing.

"I have never had problems with managers of other teams. That's because I am only concerned with my team and sometimes I do maybe talk too much to the fourth official

"But when I do talk, I make sure it has nothing to do with the manager of the other team. It is different over here. It is possible to talk to the other manager for the entire game because the two benches are so close - and I did that with Pochettino when we played at Tottenham.

"It feels different - but I don't think I will have any problems.

"We know in Germany that in England it is harder and more intensive. I don't really understand why ask, when you play internationally there should be one rule. It is football. It's not the English rule or the German rule. But here different things can happen.

"That is what I am trying to learn about and that's why I need to talk to the officials, so that I can understand."

Shawcross revels in victory over 'bully' Costa

    diego-costa-cropped_nii801gsgjg71u5dd0u3d57s4.jpg

Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross says it was "fantastic" to keep Chelsea striker Diego Costa quiet as the Premier League champions suffered yet another defeat.

Marko Arnautovic scored the only goal of the game as Stoke inflicted a seventh defeat of the league season so far on Chelsea, winning 1-0 at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday in the absence of the visitors' banned manager Jose Mourinho.

Costa was kept on the fringes of the action by the home side's defence and Shawcross was delighted to have triumphed in his personal battle with the Brazil-born Spain international.

"Diego Costa gets in your face, he wants to bully you so you have to stand up to him," he told Sky Sports. "He is a fantastic player who plays close to the line, so to keep him quiet is fantastic.

"We have a fantastic spirit and a good team now. Look how many Champions League winners' medals we've got in the squad now."

Costa was caught up in controversy after the match after being reported to referee Anthony Taylor following an off-the-pitch incident with a Britannia Stadium steward.

The 27-year-old appeared to stand on the steward's foot after retrieving the ball for a throw-in, though a Chelsea spokesperson described the incident as "utter nonsense".

Thiago Silva convinced Ronaldo will join PSG

    cristiano-ronaldo-real-madrid_1w4q2p178n4l81oydm2b2uxf8z.jpg

Thiago Silva says he believes Cristiano Ronaldo will join Paris Saint-Germain in the near future.

The Real Madrid talisman has long been linked with a move to the super-rich Ligue 1 side as he continues to have a strained relationship with his own side's fans.

Ronaldo added fuel to the speculation by whispering something in the ear of PSG coach Laurent Blanc after their Champions League meeting on Tuesday.

And Thiago Silva feels a move is imminent and says the Portuguese attacker would settle in well in the French capital as he already speaks the language.

"I do not know [if Ronaldo will sign] but it's fun playing with such major players," he told RMC. "Ronaldo is the best player in the world. If the club wants him, of course the PSG squad would be happy.

"He is a very good player, technically essential for all teams in the world and especially for PSG, who have a big dream to win the Champions League with great players.

"I think Ronaldo will come. I do not know what happened with Blanc after the game because he did not say but I hope [there were positive talks between the two].

"He speaks French very well, perhaps better than me, and if it happens next year he will have no difficulty speaking with the media."

Ibrahimovic: PSG in control of Ligue 1

    zlatanibrahimovic-cropped_xckboud6nilj1kszn351kib84.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic says the Ligue 1 champions are in control of their destiny but knows there is still a long way to go in the title race.

Ibrahimovic struck twice as PSG routed Toulouse 5-0 on Saturday as the champions remain undefeated in the league this season.

With an 11 point lead over second-placed Caen, the Swede admitted his side are in control of the division.

"We're on the right track," the 34-year-old said. "We played well against Toulouse.

"We played well against Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday too, but unfortunately we lost. Winning immediately afterwards was important. On Saturday we really played well and we won.

"We are in control of the championship, but it's not finished yet. The more we win in Ligue 1, the better our chances in all the other competitions will be."

PSG coach Laurent Blanc praised his side's response after their 1-0 Champions League loss to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

"In the first half, I was most pleased by everyone working hard to win back possession," he said. "We needed to focus and show the right attitude, to always want the ball.

"I told the players they would be coming on and they showed their worth off the bench.

"Collecting 35 points from a possible 39 is a good thing. My team is playing very well at the moment."

Mata optimistic over Manchester United's title chances

    juan-mata-cropped_aag6spoh7wo31hh704et40vym.jpg

Juan Mata insists Manchester United are not getting carried away following Saturday's Premier League win over West Brom, but feels they are in a good position to challenge for the title.

Louis van Gaal's men sit fourth in the table with 24 points from 12 games, chasing joint leaders Manchester City and Arsenal - who both have a game in hand - by one point ahead of Sunday's games.

"A title challenge? Let's see about that one, as there are still too many games until the end of the season. We have to take it game by game," Mata told MUTV.

"It was a difficult month for us with some tough games, but I think we are still in the position to do it.

"Now we have to focus on the national team and then we have a lot of games in late November and December and we have to be at our best level."

United kept a clean sheet for the fifth time in succession against West Brom and Mata hailed their defensive strength.

"I think we are doing great defensively," the Spain international added.

"David de Gea is obviously a world-class goalkeeper and we have great defenders who are doing really well.

"The whole team is trying to defend compact and I think that is the key to winning games."

Chelsea player revolt forces Mourinho to the brink

    2150402_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho's second spell as Chelsea manager is almost over with a dressing room revolt likely to be the final straw as owner Roman Abramovich considers sacking the most popular coach in the club's history.

Goal understands that Abramovich will make a decision on Mourinho's future during the two-week international break and has been actively making contact with potential replacements.

Abramovich's key consideration is expected to focus on whether he thinks Mourinho can guide Chelsea to a top-four finish this season, with last season's champions already 13 points off the Champions League spots.

It seems highly unlikely that the Blues will qualify for Europe's premier club competition while the players are so unhappy with the manager. Sources say that only "a handful" of first-team players remain behind Mourinho.

Mourinho's public and private criticism of individual players is at the heart of their dissatisfaction, with many believing they have been unfairly singled out while the Portuguese protects his "favourites".

Eden Hazard, Oscar and Nemanja Matic are among the more disillusioned Blues players while sources say the dressing room has badly missed the influence of departed senior players such as Didier Drogba, Petr Cech and Frank Lampard.

Captain John Terry is understood to remain fully supportive of Mourinho but the 34-year-old no longer carries the influence he once did.
Patience with Mourinho is now at breaking point in the Stamford Bridge boardroom and the 52-year-old will only survive if Abramovich is unable to appoint a quality replacement mid-season.

Leading candidates such as Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone will not be available until next summer so Chelsea would have to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season.

The Blues' 1-0 defeat by Stoke on Saturday meant they have now lost seven of their 12 Premier League matches this season and sit fifth from bottom in the table.

Mourinho was given a rare public vote of confidence in October following the home defeat to Southampton, but it came with the caveat that "results have not been good enough and the team's performances must improve".
The west London club have lost three of their four subsequent league fixtures - their one win coming against bottom side Aston Villa - and have been knocked out of the League Cup.

Chelsea's hierarchy have also been stunned by the extent to which Mourinho appears to have unravelled off the pitch, with constant outbursts against referees and hints towards a conspiracy at the Football Association.

The 52-year-old was forced to watch his side's defeat to Stoke from his hotel room after receiving a stadium ban for confronting referee Jon Moss during the 2-1 loss at West Ham last month.

His conduct has been received badly in the boardroom where senior figures are concerned about the damage being done to the club's image worldwide.

The Portuguese's public axing of club doctor Eva Carneiro was a public relations disaster and also angered several players as she was a popular member of the backroom staff.

Guardiola: Failure to win treble unacceptable for Bayern

    pep-guardiola-cropped_103s7y49o9yzj184c8a1ri36wo.jpg

Pep Guardiola feels Bayern Munich's season will be a failure if they do not win the treble.

The Bavarians have dominated the Bundesliga in recent seasons, but have yet to experience Champions League success under the Spaniard, having crashed out at the semi-final stage each time since he took over a side that had just completed the European and domestic treble.

And Guardiola realises he needs European glory this term for the 2015-16 campaign to be considered a success.

"If we do not win the treble, it will have been a bad season for Bayern Munich," Guardiola said.

"I know at what kind of club I am, the pressure at Bayern is the same as at Barcelona.

"When you are at Bayern, you always have to win week after week."

Guardiola's men are on the verge of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League, topping Group F with nine points from four games and needing just one point from their remaining two matches to book their ticket for the next round.

Furthermore, they sit top of the Bundesliga with 34 points from 12 matches, while they recently qualified for the round of 16 of the DFB-Pokal, where they will meet Darmstadt at home.

Van Gaal impressed by debutant Borthwick-Jackson

    borthwickjackson-cropped_wsp8ye7ji5g31e7vc01sutern.jpg

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal praised defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson after he made his debut for the club against West Brom.

The 18-year-old left back was a surprise inclusion on United's bench at Old Trafford and came on for Marcos Rojo after 76 minutes in Saturday's 2-0 Premier League win.

Van Gaal explained the reasons for the youngster's involvement and congratulated him for his performance against Tony Pulis' side.

"I have seen him once or twice and I have been impressed by him," Van Gaal told MUTV.

"I knew that Marouane Fellaini was injured, so I talked with [Under-21s coach] Warren Joyce and asked what he had for me.

"I am always taking with him or [Under-18s coach] Paul McGuinness and Joyce said at the moment the left full-back is in good shape.

"I needed a left full-back because Marcos Rojo had played a few games in a row, so I have to take into account that it might be too much.

"I put Cameron in the line-up without any fear and I have to say he did very well."

United, who picked up their fifth consecutive clean sheet, are back in action away at Watford after the international break

Zouma: Chelsea players still behind Mourinho

    kurt-zouma_17rrua2d2bd8f1as4vmju33iqo.jpg

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has dismissed suggestions manager Jose Mourinho no longer has the backing of his players as their dismal run of form continues.

Stoke City inflicted a seventh leage defeat of the season upon the Blues on Saturday, leaving the reigning champions sitting in 16th place with just 11 points after 12 games.

Goal understands Mourinho's tenure is close to its end as a revolt is growing in the dressing room, with some suggesting that there is no way back for the coach.

However, Zouma is adamant the players are still behind their manager, though he does not know the reason behind their catastrophic start to the season.

"I do not think that he is being let down by the players," Zouma told Telefoot .

"We might not be at last year's level when it comes to our performances, but we are all together as a team. We all trust in Mourinho, just like the fans.
"I cannot explain our catastrophic start. It really is bizarre," the Frenchman added.

"We were Premier League champions last season... maybe it is a mental problem."

Aston Villa 0-0 Manchester City: Pellegrini’s men frustrated at Villa Park

    2213052_heroa.jpg

Rock-bottom Aston Villa held Premier League leaders Manchester City to a 0-0 draw in manager Remi Garde's first game in charge.

The home side did not offer much of an attacking threat at Villa Park, failing to register a shot on target, but produced a brave defensive display for their new boss to halt a dreadful run of seven consecutive league defeats.

Aleksandar Kolarov hit the post in the first half and Raheem Sterling felt he should have been awarded a penalty after being felled by Ciaran Clark.

Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne missed good chances after the break and Fernando struck the crossbar in injury time on a frustrating Sunday for City, who failed to score for the second away league game running following last month's draw at rivals Manchester United.

Ex-Lyon coach Garde made an immediate mark with six changes to the Villa team, while Manuel Pellegrini had just one alteration to his starting XI as De Bruyne came back in at the expense of Jesus Navas. Fabian Delph and Gael Clichy returned from injuries to claim places on the substitutes' bench.

After a slow start to the game, Kolarov's effort was shovelled onto the post by an unconvincing Brad Guzan save after the left-back had been played in by Sterling. Fernando lashed a good chance way off target after the resulting corner fell into his path.

City suffered a blow midway through the first half when Wilfried Bony was forced off injured, meaning Navas was brought on with De Bruyne moving into a central role in attack.
Sterling was unhappy not to be awarded a penalty by referee Craig Pawson as half-time approached. Yaya Toure sent the England international through on goal and he was clipped by a challenge from Clark as he attempted to cut back on to his right foot, but nothing was given.

Sterling came so close to finding the opener early in the second half. Navas sent in a perfect floated cross and the former Liverpool attacker beat the offside trap, but saw his header from inside the six-yard box kept out by a point-blank Guzan save.

Another chance went begging after Navas showed great pace down the right and flashed a threatening delivery across the face of goal but De Bruyne could not sort his feet out in time and the close-range chance went begging.

City brought on Delph against his former club and Kelechi Iheanacho in the closing stages and the latter provided the cross that saw Fernando rattle the woodwork with a close-range header in stoppage time as Villa held on for a point.

Torino 0-1 Inter: Kondogbia on target as winning streak continues

    2212382_heroa.jpg

Inter reclaimed top spot in Serie A after a first-half strike from Geoffrey Kondogbia earned them a hard-fought 1-0 win at Torino.

The visitors headed to the Stadio Olimpico di Torino boasting an unbeaten away record this term and showed their now customary defensive resolve to grind out their seventh 1-0 victory of the campaign.

With previous leaders Fiorentina not in action at Sampdoria until later on Sunday, a third consecutive Nerazzurri win was enough to lift Roberto Mancini's men back into pole position.

The result marked Torino's first home defeat of the season and stretched their winless streak to an alarming six games, although they did strike the woodwork and have two strong penalty claims turned down.

Giampiero Ventura's men also went close in the second half through Fabio Quagliarella and were a touch unfortunate not to bounce back from last weekend's derby defeat against Juventus by picking up at least a point.

After a forgettable opening 10 minutes, it was Inter who carved out the first meaningful chance, Kondogbia getting away down the left and drilling in a dangerous cross that was helped on by Felipe Melo before Mauro Icardi eventually looped his header over the crossbar.

Torino had to wait until the 20th minute for their first sight of goal, but Bruno Peres fired wildly over after a surging run that took him from inside the centre circle to the edge of the box.

The home side then went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock on the half-hour mark as Marco Benassi rattled the crossbar with a superb 20-yard curler after Inter had only managed to half-clear a corner.

Two minutes later, however, it was Inter who got their noses in front courtesy of the lively Kondogbia.

Torino were guilty of switching off as they attempted to defend a Yuto Nagatomo free-kick, completely failing to track Kondogbia's run at the far post and allowing the Frenchman to volley home his first goal of the season from close range.
Stung by that setback, the hosts finished the first half on the front foot and had a decent penalty claim waved away when Jeison Murillo appeared to bring down Andrea Belotti in the box.

Ventura's men started the second half in a similar vein and almost levelled things up after 48 minutes. Cristian Molinaro's cross-shot was volleyed goalward by Quagliarella, Samir Handanovic parried the shot and Belotti was just unable to force home the loose ball from right on the line.

With the game starting to open up, Handanovic was forced into action to deny Quagliarella for a second time moments later, while at the other end, Nagatomo flashed a long-range shot narrowly wide of the target following a swift Inter break.

The officials then infuriated the home fans for a second time when substitute Maxi Lopez appeared to be impeded by Miranda as he prepared to shoot, but no penalty was awarded.

The industrious Quagliarella was next to test Inter's impressively solid defence, but Handanovic got down well to tip his low shot around the post.

Torino continued to throw bodies forward in the closing stages, but the visitors calmly saw out the final few minutes to secure an eighth victory from 12 league games.
