Messi: I have no problem with Neymar

    303788_heroa.jpg

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has made it clear he has had no problems with Neymar since the Brazilian's €57 million move to the club.

The Argentine ace started a game alongside the 21-year-old for the first time on Wednesday, with both players getting on the scoresheet in a 7-1 thrashing of Thailand, and Messi insists that any speculation of unrest between the pair is pure speculation from the media.

"There’s no problem between us; these are things that come out of the press," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

"We get on with each other on and off the pitch and we’re getting to know each other little by little. We haven’t played much together. But he’ll bring a lot of joy to the club, to us and to the people."

Messi went on to explain the impact of new coach Gerardo Martino at Camp Nou, revealing the former Newell's Old Boys coach is keen for the team to improve their pressing game once more in the 2013-14 season.

"He is telling us that we need to get back to being who we have been for the last few years," Messi explained. "He wants us to create more pressure and work on recovering the ball as quickly as possible. We’re out to do that.

"We’re still getting to know each other. Every coach has his own things. He hasn’t come to change anything, just to get back what we lost a little last year."

Barcelona face a Malaysia XI on Saturday in the latest leg of their lengthy pre-season tour, but Messi believes their work this summer will pay dividends come the new campaign.

"I don’t know whether it [the tour] is the best way to prepare or not, but it’s what we’re doing," the 26-year-old said.

"We’re working very well. There are a lot of events and there’s a lot of travelling. We train when we can and take the matches very seriously.

"The games help us to get into our rhythm, it’s good preparation and we’ll come into the season in good shape."

Returning to Fenerbahce 'like coming home', says Emenike

    303823_heroa.jpg

Emmanuel Emenike says he feels as though he is "coming back home" after re-signing for Fenerbahce this week.

The 26-year-old has completed a €13 million move from Spartak Moscow, just two years after leaving Istanbul for the Russia outfit, and the striker could barely contain his delight at the deal.

"When the possibility of coming back was first mentioned, I said to myself: 'I hope both clubs will agree to that,'" Emenike told BBC Sport.

"Once a deal was agreed, I couldn't wait to see the fans and city again. Right now, I am just delighted to be back. It's like coming back home."

The Nigeria international endured a turbulent 2012-13 campaign after he was accused of match-fixing by Turkish police, but the former Cape Town forward insists he is looking to the future following his acquittal of the charges.

"I don't want to talk about the dark past because there is a bright future ahead," said Emenike, who will be unvelied as a new Fenerbahce signing on Saturday.

"I just want to thank Fenerbahce officials, fans and everyone for making this [his return] happen and for giving me a warm reception at the airport.

"I want to fulfil a huge dream of playing in front of our passionate fans.

"I have unfinished business here because I owe it to the club and fans who never stopped supporting or believing in me."

    article-0-1B3368FC000005DC-814_964x630.jpg

The Hawkeye goal-line technology system which will be used in the Premier League and at Wembley has been unveiled ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield game between Manchester United and Wigan.

    article-0-1B33C452000005DC-416_964x608.jpg

Referees will receive a signal via their watches and an ear-piece within the space of a second indicating whether the ball has crossed the line.At an event held at the Emirates Stadium to unveil the system, FA general secretary Alex Horne underlined the importance of the technology.

    article-0-1B336E16000005DC-793_964x571.jpg

He said: "This is one of the biggest changes that has happened in the 150 years since we conceived the laws of the game and it is fitting that it is happening in our 150th anniversary year."The object of the game is to put the ball into the goal and the system will help referees to make the correct decision.''

    article-0-1B33A9ED000005DC-14_964x590.jpg

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore added: "It's a very exciting development in world football. It is a goal decision system - it is no longer just goal-line technology."

:baffled:John W Henry says Luis Suarez is going nowhere

    LuisSuarez_2984502.jpg

Liverpool owner John W Henry says forward Luis Suarez will not be sold to Arsenal for any price.

Suarez is eager to leave the Anfield club and said earlier in the week that he had been promised he would be sold if Liverpool failed to qualify for this season's Champions League, while Arsenal have bid £40million plus one pound for the Uruguay forward. But outraged Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers denies any promises were made, has accused Suarez of lacking respect for Liverpool, and has banished him from training with the first team.

And Henry, the leader of the Boston-based Fenway Sports Group that owns Liverpool, says Suarez will definitely not be allowed to join a rival Premier League team."We are not going to sell Luis," said Henry.

    To sell would be ludicrous

"We're not in Europe this year and have not been in the Champions League for a while. To sell to a rival for those positions, or one of them, would be ludicrous.
"Liverpool needs to be playing in Europe, it needs to be playing in the Champions League. That's what Liverpool football club is about."

And Henry says even an increased bid from Arsenal will not change his stance.
"I'm unequivocal that we won't sell to Arsenal, whatever the bid is," he said. "I have not said it to Stan (Kroenke, Arsenal's majority shareholder) but I had a personal conversation with Ivan Gazidis (Arsenal chief executive) and told him we would not sell.

"He won't be sold even if a foreign club comes in, because we do not have time to sign a suitable replacement."It's a football reason, it's not about finances. That's why, at this point, so late in the window, with everyone who's already moved or isn't moving, we can't replace him. So, for football reasons, we can't sell, and especially to Arsenal."

And Henry does not believe that Suarez's relationship with Rodgers and the Liverpool fans has been damaged beyond repair."The manager is upset, as he should be, and the supporters are upset," said Henry. "But we need Luis. Hopefully this will pass."

:(Chelsea to chase Rooney till 'last day'

    rooneymanchesterunitedkit2013-14_576x324.jpg

Jose Mourinho’s pursuit of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will go right down to deadline day with the Chelsea manager admitting the club will continue their chase “until the last day”.However, the Portuguese manager categorically denied pursued defender David Luiz will leave the club during the summer.

Unsettled striker Rooney has long been rumoured with a move to Chelsea, speculation building that the England international will submit a transfer request to push through a move to London.Meanwhile, the Red Devils have maintained their stance Rooney is not for sale, knocking back a second offer from Chelsea for the 27-year-old.

But after his side fell to his former club, Real Madrid, 3-1 in the US, Mourinho admitted he would continue to fight “the correct way” for a player identified as one Chelsea “would like to have”.

“We are far away so we are not in England to know every detail but we are doing things in the correct way,” Mourinho was reported as saying in the Guardian. “We made the bid and Manchester United have reacted. Let's see what happens. But we can't do more than we are doing now.

“We are doing things legally, making the official bid directly to the club, no interviews or comments or direct relations with the player, no contact, absolutely nothing. We are doing everything in an ethical way, so let's see if things change.“There is no time limit. We have our squad of strikers. We have identified the player as one we would like to have with us. We have done it in an ethical way and we are going to do that until the last day. And we will see how it comes.”

However, Mourinho quashed rumours that David Luiz was set to depart the club after reports emerged that Spanish champions Barcelona had made a £35 million bid for the Brazil international. But Mourinho said the Catalan giants were “wasting their time” and should consider moving onto another of their targets.

“It's lost time for them. My advice to them is to go to the second player on their list because they are wasting their time," he said. "We don't want to lose our best players. No chance.”

Arsenal will face Fenerbahce in the Champions League qualifying play-off, meaning Arsene Wenger's side face a tough battle to reach the competition's group stages. However, uncertainty surrounds the aftermath of the Fenerbahce tie -- the first leg of which will be played in Turkey -- if the Turkish club win it.

Fenerbahce are awaiting a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport over whether they will be allowed to progress to the competition proper after UEFA banned them over a domestic match-fixing scandal. They were reinstated, pending their appeal to the CAS, the verdict of which is due to be announced before the draw for the group stages but after they have taken on Arsenal.

UEFA said it had not yet taken a decision on what would happen if Fenerbahce won the tie against Arsenal but then saw the CAS decision go against them.
Scottish Premier League champions Celtic play Shakhter Karagandy, of Kazakhstan, while PSV Eindhoven take on AC Milan in an eye-catching tie.

Montpellier 1-1 PSG: Maxwell salvages a draw for the champions

    304056hp2.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 title defence started with a stutter as they had to come from behind to draw 1-1 at Montpellier on Friday.

A first-half goal from Remy Cabella gave Jean Fernandez's men a shock lead and it required Maxwell to score midway through the second period to salvage a point for the hosts. Edinson Cavani's introduction from the bench could not provide a winner, despite the home side being reduced to 10 when Abdelhamid El Kaoutari saw red for a second booking.

PSG coach Laurent Blanc named record signing Edinson Cavani on the bench, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic partnered in attack by Ezequiel Lavezzi.Siaka Tiene made his debut for Montpellier after joining from PSG in the close-season, with Cabella playing in behind Emanuel Herrera up front. The visitors edged the early stages of the contest and came close to taking the lead when Lavezzi headed an in-swinging free kick from Lucas Moura straight at Montpellier goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren.

However, it was Jean Fernandez's men who surprisingly seized the initiative 10 minutes into the contest as Cabella dispossessed Ibrahimovic in midfield before reacting quickest to pounce on Herrera's deflected effort and fire past Salvatore Sirigu from a tight angle.

PSG crafted an almost instant response: Christophe Jallet hitting a left-footed effort over the bar from close range following good work from Ibrahimovic.Montpellier's threat slowly faded as the half dragged on and they had Jourdren to thank for keeping them in front after 27 minutes as he produced a fine diving save to repel a long-range drive from Ibrahimovic.

However, Blanc's side were regularly frustrated by some last-ditch Montpellier defending and Cabella almost snatched a second goal six minutes before the break as he found space on the edge of the area, but he could only poke narrowly wide of the post.

Montpellier held on until the interval, but had to survive early scares in the second half, Ibrahimovic and Lucas both going close with free-kicks as Blanc's men emerged with renewed confidence.Fernandez attempted to try and stem the tide of PSG attacks by bringing midfielder Jonas Martin on for winger Anthony Mounier.

However, the champions' pressure eventually told on the hour mark, Maxwell - who scored in a 1-1 draw in the same fixture last term - slamming home from close-range after Ibrahimovic diverted Marco Verratti's lofted pass into his path.
Cavani was introduced 71 minutes into the game, coming on in place of Lavezzi, and the tide swung firmly in PSG's favour moments after the Uruguayan's introduction, as Montpellier defender Abdelhamid El Kaoutari was sent off for a second bookable offence following a foul on Javier Pastore.

The extra man nearly told immediately, but Cavani was prevented from completing the comeback as his far-post header was blocked by Tiene.Cabella was undeterred by his side's numerical deficiency, and he almost regained the lead for Montpellier in audacious fashion, lobbing just over the bar from long-range 10 minutes from time.

PSG pressed with increasing urgency, but they could not break down a determined home defence, Pastore firing wide late before substitute Adrien Rabiot's point-blank header was brilliantly saved by Jourdren in injury-time.
